No, it's what I know.
It's what you believe you know.
Entirely, it's a way for cowards and manipulators to weasel their way out of an argument.
Really? I always thought i was a way of saying, "you're stupid - think again".
I just like to clear up any and all confusion.
Do you value that more than finding truth?
Trust me it did.
To you. :)
It's impossible for anything to be reality's fault, fault is something that can only apply to thoughtful beings. If you mean you are pre-determined through cause and effect to act the way you are, then yes that is true, but that doesn't mean you wont be dealt with one way or another for your thoughts and actions.
I see your point, but there are two sides to that coin. We are just a part of reality. We are little gears. When something happens because of us, it's both our fault and reality's fault at the same time. We are inseparable.
I did mean that we are predetermined through cause and effect to act the way we do. In all honesty, we have very little say over how we cope with things and who we are. Underneath our controlled behaviors are uncontrolled motivations which cause us to react the way we do to things. For instance, it causes you to argue incessantly about something as retarded as someone saying something slightly negative about you. A rational person wouldn't care to do that. And can you control it? You can try to fight it, but most likely the way you are is gonna plow over your attempts and laugh at you. And you will continue being the same type of person which this universe has created.
So I say reality is at fault.
This desire varies widely between people and beyond that not everyone lets this desire control them, or affect them much at all. Like I said, it's about values and one's ability to handle the Truth.
I disagree. In my opinion it's one of the deepest desires and it controls every move everyone makes. When I criticize everyone about this stupid belief, I'm not talking about the conscious level where we make decisions and through will power follow through. I'm talking about our character...who we are at the "deepest" levels. That's the shit that counts anyway - not the front we put up. I'm talking about what we truly value and have no control over changing.
I didn't say I was your father, but I sure do feel like one when having discussions with you. Again, I'm just clearing up the confusion.
Well what the hell were you trying to say then? What else could that possibly mean?
It's a good thing you aren't one, in my opinion.
Alright Scott here I go feeling like daddy again, I'll explain it to you real slowly. I responded to a question asked by another member of this message board about why Jesus is brought up on the forum quite often, while the bible isn't. I then went on to explain how Jesus and Christianity have very little in common if you wisely interpret what was said in the gospels. Easy enough to understand son?
Yea, I got that from reading your posts initially. Then I said you're full of shit, remember?
The fact is that no one here actually knew what Jesus was talking about. He said a lot of crazy shit which doesn't add up. Besides, Jesus and Christianity have a lot in common. Jesus was a rogue rabbi, teaching the true religion of Judaism, and Christians try to follow what Jesus said. It's pretty simple. Perhaps you should read more of the Bible in context before jumping to conclusions...before justifying your belief system with another's which hardly matches up at all.
This has to be the dumbest thing you have said yet to date. Where would any of us be without human contact, or more specifically our teachers, parents, peers, and just about anything else you can imagine? Beyond that we don't even have freewill, so what the hell is your point?
My point is you need to stand on your own two feet and stop hanging onto mommy Quinn.
We are all a conduit of the Infinite.
Haha, way to avoid the point. I was saying you haven't thought on your own.
You can point to this and that and say "that's why that thing does that!" but it's only an infinitely small part of why it is actually doing that. Sure I've been influenced by the thoughts and philosophies of other people, we all have. More importantly does it even matter? Not unless we mindlessly take on ideas without thinking them through for ourselves first. Even I get a little wary about the fact that I find myself consistently agreeing wholeheartedly with certain members of this forum, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to disagree with them just because of some insecure need to feel like I’m the sole factor in everything I think and do.
That would be an insecure need. If you truly believe you have thought for yourself and agreed with certain members here, then I will have to take your word for it. I only put it out there as something to consider.
I think you just have too much pride in thinking that you are the only factor in determining your thoughts and actions, which is simply not the case and a result of a diluted understanding of the Infinite as it stands. I also think you are projecting a lot of your own pride on to me judging by your comments above. I have't felt one bit of pride through out this entire discussion, anger yes, but pride no.
I kind of feel...nothing.
I can tell you're angry. Why are you so angry? Is it wise to get angry when some moron says negative things about you? Does it solve anything? Where are your values now?
This is what I'm talking about when I talk about unconscious motivations controlling who we are. This anger is definitely an unconscious tendency you have...why is it there...what caused it to be there in the first place? What purpose is it serving? Is it useful? Detrimental?
I'm not going to be able to take you seriously when you talk about "wisdom, etc" so long as I can see through your facade and directly into your character.
If you're serious about the philosophical path, this is the first place you should start. With yourself. Forget about an intellectual understanding of a concept of "the infinite". That's elementary school shit. This is the tough stuff, where you uproot every unconscious tendency and shine the light of reason into every crack and crevace of your mind.
I interpreted Jesus in a wise and open minded manner and you kept dropping your passive aggressive comments that were obviously directed at me. If you want to discuss what Jesus meant in his teachings go ahead, I'm all ears.
One thing: I don't see how something passive aggressive can also be obviously directed at you.
Anyway, like I said before I don't know what Jesus was talking about half the time. But a few things can be known. He was a rabbi. He tried to clear up the religion of the day. He was very intense about what he preached.
That's about all I've got.
Good for you but I don't know how you can expect anyone to take what you say seriously when you are scared shitless of cold hard Reality and still clinging to mommy's teat.
I don't know how anyone can take you seriously when you say such baseless things. I only ever said that philosophy ruins your life. I never said I regretted it. I never said I was quitting philosophy. Anyway, I don't care at all how some moron misinterprets something I've said. Go ahead and be wrong.
Think what you want about me, but if your going to open your mouth with an opinion about me I’m going to address it if I am compelled to do so.
Perhaps, as a philosopher, you should consider why you're so compelled to do so.
Everyday I have to wake up knowing that nearly everyone I encounter will never understand me or why I think and do the things I do. This includes relatives and friends I’ve known my whole life. There is absolutely no place for me in this world and I still struggle to come to terms with it at times, but you wont ever hear me complain about it.
I think I just did!
And I also think you just admitted that you don't have it so bad. I'm sure many people experience the same type of thing here. Just the other day in the worldly matters forum someone said they were going to kill themselves for this very reason. I understand it completely, since I have experienced the same thing. It's not a big deal. A big deal is actually having bad shit happen to you.
It's time to grow up and realize that you aren't the only one who feels these things. They are a common experience for nearly everyone in the world. Even people who fake a smile and a laugh. Probably especially them.
I think if you ask most people if they think my life is hard they would say hard is an understatement. What I just described are the reasons people commit suicide and shoot up high schools and workplaces. To them my life is a nightmare, to me it is a blessing.
Then you're only lying to yourself.
Come on Scott, do you really think you are that important to me?
I would hope not. But you never know how big of a temper tantrum someone is going to throw.
It's obvious this anger is somewhat important to you because it's been compelling you to write long posts about nothing important, which are stuffed full of shit talk.
Well if your dad never disciplined you that would explain a lot of things.
If your dad yelled and kicked your ass everyday that would explain a lot of things.
My dad whooped me a few times until I could fight him, then it ended. Then the military disciplined me. And now no one disciplines me.
Again, to clear up the confusion, not to mention I have in fact been handling you and your groundless claims throughout this entire discussion.
I haven't seen any of that. All I've seen is "wah wah wah". Seriously.
Well I already know, and have stated what I’m doing in this discussion but you seem to have no idea what your doing. That’s usually a sign you should take a break and rethink yourself for a while.
Yes, you're questioning why I'm judging you, quite angrily and illogically. That's usually a sign you should take a break and rethink yourself. For a long while, Nick.
You immediately went off track with your passive aggressive comments right here.
â€It's funny how people always put words in the mouth of Jesus.â€
“There are many people who "interpret" others incorrectly to justify their own point of view.â€
Clearly these comments were not about Jesus, but about who, (which includes myself) was doing the discussing.
Was this topic about Jesus himself, or about Jesus in relation to the Genius Forum? Wake up, man.
