All is fair in love and war

Post by propellerbeanie »

Lenny Rizzo says it so it must be true. Or is it pat?

My bet is that if it is love, and a love relationship then the love is in some ratio to the rules. The rules of love are only one. The more rules, the less relationship, and the more relationship, the less rules.
I hate to see people before marriage trying to make lasting rules that will withstand the leverage of their vows. chuck your rules, and see your relationship as dynamic and living, and impossible to cage with laws, and forms, and rules.

War, on the other hand requires an incredible detail of rules, because the object is peace, and not victory. One sides victory is the first blow of the next war. Victory is a worse enemy than your enemy. As an american, I realize that just like a new kid at school, you have to fight someone to have respect, and not for winning so much as braving for a fight. We ain't the only hillbillys on the block, but we act that way thinking we have to win. We do not have to win.
Our war of independence was fought to a bloody and inconclusive draw, but it was won because of internal lines of communication like most wars, and the willingness to fight. For that Britain gave her respect. Our most bloody conflict was with ourselves, and when it was over we knew we were brave and resourceful beyond all measure, and could go forth into the future with self respect as the united states. We didn't get much respect for the Spanish in running over them, but in fighting the Japanese, hateful in their cruelty, and mindless in their obstinancy, and like us, brave beyond measure we settled with them short of victory out of a volume of repect. Likewise of the Koreans and the Vietnamese. We respect them because we respect fight and courage. We will yet learn respect for Islam and Iraq. The main rule of war is respect. If you know how to respect others without war you can save the lives and the money required by war. If you act in war, and in victory or defeat in such a way as to gain respect, you may say you have won even if victory eludes you. If you destroy your humanity to gain victory you have lost your war, and have sown the seeds of your next defeat. America, the United States is losing this war, and will never win another. A good enemy is better than a bad friend, and we are reaching a world inhabited by bad friends and bad enemies. It is time to change our system of government to one not so hasty to throw treasure after misery into a rich man's pockets, because that behavior won't gain us any respect anywhere.

How the US deliberately destroyed Iraq's water

"...The United States knew the costs that civilian Iraqis, mostly children, would pay, and it went ahead anyway."

'We are the new Jews', is an oft heard, Arab refrain now.

Due to the use of defoliants and napalm, half of Iraq's trees, including the great, ancient palms, died.

Pastors and other religious representatives are being taught to become secret police enforcers who teach their congregations to "obey the government" in preparation for the implementation of martial law, property and firearms seizures, mass vaccination programs and forced relocation. (photo)

This link in the article that Tomas linked is pretty disgusting:

Americans only have our Constitutional Rights when the police say we can? I don't think so. Why wasn't this splashed all over the news? Why is this the first I've seen/heard about this?

It is not okay to break into an old woman's house and mug her at gunpoint even if you are the police.
