Inside my head
Inside my head
Stupid people reproduce more than intelligent people. This may or may not be news to some of you but I'm noticing more and more that the most unintelligent and unwise people in society are the ones making most of the babies. This doesn't seem like it bodes well for the future development of philosophy and wisdom.
Science compliments philosophy and philosophy compliments science. Science helps philosophy by helping to explain the impermanence and interconectedness of "things", as well as the constant flux the universe is in. I think it makes philosophical questions such as; (who are we? where did we come from? what are we doing here?) less likely to be hijacked by religion and other manipulative forces. Also, philosophy serves as the guiding hand in all sciences and studys. "Science without philosophy has no conscience" - Albert Einstein
And just like the character Kevin McCalister said in the movie "Home Alone", sometimes I wish I woke up and I had no friends or family. Just coincidence that we both had these thoughts around Christmas time, or something else?

It's just that there's so much fuss about kids and kids stuff and fantasy at this time of year. Memory probably plays a part of it and the idea that it "should" be happy family memory times...Nick Treklis wrote: And just like the character Kevin McCalister said in the movie "Home Alone", sometimes I wish I woke up and I had no friends or family. Then again, I said it back in June or July (and I think I've said it at least a few times in prior years)

having kids seems smart in a democracy. You're the idiot for denouncing life. Nihilism tends not to succeed, understandably.Nick Treklis wrote:Stupid people reproduce more than intelligent people. The answer to that question is in the second sentence of my initial post when I said "unintelligent and unwise people".millipodium wrote:By what criterion do you pronounce the people that reproduce stupid?
I'm actually the most loving and caring person I've ever met personally.millipodium wrote:You're just bitter and hateful.
Mill your cries of nihilism are getting ever more redundant. Why don't you just get back to wrapping up your christmas presents.

I'm repetitive because the problem remains the same: Nihilism being passed off as enlightenment.

They haven't the slightest notion of what it means to be truly wise.millipodium wrote:By what criterion do you pronounce them unintelligent and unwise?

What does enlightenment mean to you? Stop being a coward by avoiding questions that would require you to actually share your philosophy on life and man up for once, please.millipodium wrote:I'm repetitive because the problem remains the same: Nihilism being passed off as enlightenment.

Truly wise according to your specialized definition? Hate is no wisdom. Nihilism is not wisdom.Nick Treklis wrote:They haven't the slightest notion of what it means to be truly wise.millipodium wrote:By what criterion do you pronounce them unintelligent and unwise?

Re: Inside my head
Intelligent people want to finish their education and launch their careers before having children so they can provide a good upbringing for their offspring, and they limit the number of children to how many they can support well. By waiting until later, they are not breeding during their most fertile years and may end up having fewer children than they wanted. Some intelligent people choose not to have children for various humanitarian reasons that do not matter to unintelligent people.Nick Treklis wrote:Stupid people reproduce more than intelligent people. Unintelligent people use more of their fertile years for procreation, and do not concern themselves as much with how to provide for the children. Until the mid-90's in America, many of the poor realized that the more children they had, the bigger the welfare check they got. There were also enough free medical, food and clothing programs for children that it could be financially advantageous to have as many children as possible.
What's worse for the development of wisdom in America is that the same families that figured out how to work the system by having lots of babies also figured out they could get even bigger checks if they could get their children to test out as retarded, so learning anything has been discouraged in these groups.
It seems to me the solution is to reward wisdom more than ignorance.

Yes, there were. There was a special about it on either 20/20 or 60 Minutes. They also showed how people were borrowing other people's children to take to the welfare office to make it look like they had even more kids than they really had. I don't remember how widespread the problem was, but a year or so after the program aired, laws were changed to limit the number of children per welfare recipient that the government would support.
I've known a few people who work in DCF and it's pretty common knowledge, especially amongst those who live in the areas of the clients they serve, that encouraging kids to be uneducated or act crazy is done for bigger checks - but they don't know what to do about that.

It sounds like a traditional scare tactic used to fear people into voting conservative. At any rate, those fear tactics worked and it is now no longer possible to get any financial benefit for having children if you're already on welfare when you got pregnant. (with details changed state by state)Philosophaster wrote:Were there really a bunch of poor people going around and having more kids or encouraging the school system to treat their kids as retarded just so that they could get bigger welfare checks? How widespread were those phenomena, assuming they existed?

These are charicatures. Consider also the wisdom of having babies when the body is best suited for it. Also consider that people are not waiting for the child's benefit, but waiting until they have achieved the status they feel they must have.Elizabeth Isabelle wrote:Intelligent people want to finish their education and launch their careers before having children so they can provide a good upbringing for their offspring, and they limit the number of children to how many they can support well. Nihilism
Ironic, because Milli is constantly railing against nihilism - not believing in anything. So he strongly believes that you should believe in something - but is not willing to state something in which he actually believes!Nick Treklis wrote:All you do is exclaim what wisdom, enlightenment, and the other things of this nature are not, but never what you think they actually are. Sometimes it's that which we hate most in ourselves that we object to most strongly in others...

I know nihilism is not enlightenment. I don't need to provide an alternative definition to make this case.DHodges wrote:Ironic, because Milli is constantly railing against nihilism - not believing in anything. Do you have anything besides personal attacks? How is statement of fact an attack, jack?
