So.. this is probably not a big topic->Canadian Government. But I'm a Canadian so I have some self-interest, err. I mean reason to be concerned.

This past election the hot topic was of course the global economy and all parties Conservative (Stephen Harper), Bloc (Gilles Duceppe), Liberal (Stephane Dion) and NDP (Jack Layton) all attacked this economic issue head-on in their campaigns. As many of you may know, if you care, The Conservative party lead by Stephen Harper won the election.

Now the Conservatives have issued legislation depriving electoral campaigns of funding per seat. So it will come down to corporate backing or other sources of funding, but not federal funding based on party size. Rather than respond to this legislation the opposition parties formed a coalition and accused Harper and the Conservatives of not paying any attention to real issues like the economy and trying to solidify victory in the 2010 election. So this ended up on the desk of the Governor General to the British Commonwealth who agreed to prorogue parliament at Harper's request.

So now the country is up in arms over this and the Conservatives are shouting accusations of "treason" at the opposition leaders. The opposition leaders are renegging on their promise not to form a coalition and all hell has broken lose in government. The crux of the story is, nothing is being done about the economy, we just keep chasing down ghosts. Stuff that doesn't really matter that much. When is someone going to consider the economy?

Ah, politics. Why do politics operate so illogically? Why is government stupid and procrastinates to no end? Anyone else even care what Canadians do?

Because politics are done by mostly illogical people whose paychecks depend on convincing a large number of illogical people that they are doing a good job.
