Can't have it be 'empty'...can we?

Gotta have some Meaning happening...pump it up with Steroids.

God Bless the Meaning Makers.

"Life is so wonderful and complex, and always relative. A man's soul is a perpetual call and answer. He can never be the call and the answer in one. This is truth, for ever: the relation between the call and the answer: between the dark God and the incarnate man: between the dark soul of woman, and the opposite dark soul of man: and finally, between the souls of man and man, strangers to one another, but answerers. So it is forever, the eternal weaving of calls and answers, and the fabric of life woven and perishing again. But the calls never cease, and the answers never fail for long. And when the fabric becomes grey and machine-made, some strange clarion-call makes men start to smash it up. So it is." kangaroo

We're locked up in these 'skinbags'...equipped with a handful of Senses...and a 3 square inch microprocessor tucked away in the skull...

A microprocessor that 'recognises, differentiates, reacts'....

A microprocessor that is driven by instincts...

Social Instinct, Financial Instinct, Sex Instinct...

If you want to 'recognise and differentiate' Sex Instinct as bad/dangerous/counter-productive to a Man's Spiritual purity...whatever....that's a Subjective Value you put on it...a Meaning you Give it...a Story you tell about it...

Both Nietzsche and Kierkegaard were obsessed/infatuated, in their own turn by a Woman of their aquaintance. Their 'romances' didn't proceed happily...both suffered 'wounded feelings' and the experience informed their philosophies...
Their Meaning/Stories/Philosophies proceed from Subjective experience...whatever they say is not Ultimate Reality/Absolute Truth....

Kierkegaard understood that Subjectivity is Truth and Truth is Subjectivity...
Nietzsche understood that we are 'Literary Philosophers' or 'Meaning Makers'...

Whatever you 'recognise, differentiate...that produces your reaction/behaviour...the form of your Life..

That is just what you recognise..your Subjective Truth.

Subjective Truths are a dime a dozen.

The Tao is called the Great Mother:
empty yet inexhaustible,
it gives birth to infinite worlds.

It is always present within you.
You can use it any way you want.
But, subjective truth, with mystical truth . . .

The discussion on this thread is way off the mark, from the initial topic. And I wonder if the "romance" in the title lead to multicolored and delirious replies.

ankit:
It appears to me that romance has taken the place of religion and other metaphysical ideologies such as communism in the west at least.
I didn't realise 'religion and other metaphysical ideologies' had been replaced...

What are you smoking?

I would have thought Shopping became the New and popular Meaning for folk...

ankit gupa

could he mean me *bursts into tears*

are colors and delirium necessary and sufficient conditions for each other

actually i think you were a bit off but i did not want to 'nag'

Of course romance is an instinctual drive
NO attraction is the instinctual drive that leads to reproduction

attraction and romance are not synonymous

just like being a musician and being a recording artist are not synonymous

what you are saying it seems is it that we really don't need a billion shades of
blue eyeshadow and 2 billion shades of pink lipstick in order for the human race to continue

that the movies and popular novels and the fashion industry the recording industry and godiva chocolates and jewelry etc are a foolish distraction from more worthwhile pursuits

that women and men are essentially treading water till they experience this 'romance' before they consider any other issues in their lives and begin swimming purposely toward them

even not then as romance is supposed to last at a fever pitch forever

and if you do not attain this ideal and moreover maintain it you are lost and forever doomed to a life too abject to even contemplate

and those who do attain this are saved

saved from what

saved from painful loneliness and non participation in the heaven of another being's embrace and devotion

(please excuse my previous musings on the topic i am new and yet do not 'know' the ways of people 'of your type')

furthermore i see it as not only as ridiculous and pathetic but tragic because the disappointment despair and anguish created when one fails to attain this 'lofty ideal' makes people do terrible desperate things

i was reading weininger on this site and he said something about how women will even kill their own children in revenge for being scorned by her man (medea)

and i mentioned an incident in my own experience where a man not a woman did exactly that

and i supported both weininger and my own opinions by mentioning that in my city ALL the murders last year were of the domestic type

then i realized that 'romance' is actually a drug to many in their constant need and frantic search to score and paralleled that with religion via karl marx's famous quote

I would have thought Shopping became the New and popular Meaning for folk...
frank

shopping is the prerequisite to the prerequisite (romance) for 'happily ever after'

the right genes in the right jeans put you at the head of the group and then you may be granted 'holy' matrimony

marital 'bliss'

all the fairy tales end in 'they lived happily ever after'

no details are ever given as to exactly what makes up happily ever after

but it is clear to the masses that no romance no happily ever after

but happily ever is in 'real' reality is satchitananda or nirvana or moksha which is the true worthwhile pursuit

enlightenment

but as long as people are bemused by the maya of romance their minds will not turn toward enlightenment or 'genius' as it is defined on this particular forum

is that what you meant

'Looking Good' is the way of it...the Winning Formula.

Nature (Tao) set the mode of existence...the male and female of species reproducing...the 'mating rituals'...
If you are not happy about it...then you are not happy about it...that's all.
enlightenment
If you are 'trying' to Look Good to increase your chances of happiness in the breeding business....
By adding and subtracting 'things' from yourself...

What is different if you are 'trying' to get enlightened....and you are adding and subtracting 'things' from yourself...

It's in the Nature of this that enlightenment occurs.

That my perfection is within this sense of imperfection I have of myself...
I am already perfect and striving.

striving= 'In order to'=?

hahaha.

Re: Romance and religion - empty of what?

DHodges wrote: Interesting point, Ankit. What do you take the real emptiness to be?
Of course at least in my view the real emptiness comes from living a secondhand life, through notions given by others. Not being true to oneself. Not exploring ones own body mind and living on the periphery of things. People feel empty because something is missing and indeed something is missing, and then society channels it into something tangential.

At last some Common Sense...well done.

'Ultimate Reality' has not been discovered yet...there is no model or explanation that delivers.

Once that is understood as fact then whatever is said or written is necessarily false/fiction/contrived Meaning and can be considered 'empty and meaningless'..

The Human Race is still in Inquiry Mode concerning 'Ultimate Reality'.

i am not unhappy about it i am just not enthralled i believe that is the point of this thread

that attraction has gone beyond ritual mating dance to thralldom

is that correct antik

also my previous 'is this what you meant' was directed at you antik

(i admit the violet was a bit much

but blue is the color of truth so seems appropriate)

agreed

i have found early in my life that everytime i tried to do as i was told though i did well enough to 'pass' i never felt at ease

once i threw those notions away and thought 'ok what is going on here and how am i going to do this' that not only was i at ease but other people were often actually pleased with the results

i wrote a piece of music that was so 'out there' that my professor at first refused to play it

i was ok as i don't believe in getting people to do what they don't want to

others prevailed upon her and she did play it and suddenly i was a 'minimalist composer'

once i did it my way everything changed

i was happy

and so were some other people

good enough

Well, that would be your subjective truth...it just means you're not enthralled.

I'll send a 'fax' to God if you like and get him to change it.
but blue is the color of truth
That would be fiction

please i think this is uncalled for

i believe that the subject of this thread was about romance being overblown in proportion

but wait weininger says i am supposed to be enthralled so of course not to be so deserves derision

'that would be fiction'

is the chakra system fiction because the color blue is assigned to the throst chakra and one of its attributes is truth

btw god's fax is down he is no longer taking 'calls' other than through pure thought [/sarcasm]

You live in your own tiny 'private Idaho' of thoughts/feelings...you experience your Life 'subjectively'...your opinions are your own and are arrived at dependant upon prior experience...

You are a Self that attaches to whatever it is that it feels is 'good' to attach to..at this time....the 'thing' you are attached to 'today' will lose it's appeal and you will detach from that and form another attachment at some point...

Your Life is a process of 'hooking on' and 'unhooking'....

In order to....???

Our Self is a configuration of prior causes...

Our Self experiences 'subjectively'...whatever exists outside our Self is experienced as 'Object'.

When the Object appears in the periphery of our conciousness.

In an Instant...flash, flash.

Recognition, Differentiation, Reaction.

Attraction/Repulsion.
Safe/Not Safe.
Attach/Avoid.
Yes/No.

Self Preservation.

The object is the Meaning the subject 'gives' to it.

Realise your Nature.
