Revenge / Payback?

Post by uncledote »

Question:

You are shafted on a number of fronts by a bullying member of the workforce. Your union is supposed to support you and fight your case. You find out months later that Union guy has taken a back hander and accepted management's 'whitewash' of the situation designed to let the bully retire without any record of wrongdoing.

These occurrences have left you in financial and emotional disarray along with suffering from psychiatric injuries.

When feeling stronger, what would you do about these wrongdoings, given that nothing can be proved on paper or in a court of law. Should these upstanding citizens just be allowed to flourish in their heavily subsidised retirement villas?

I look forward to any replies...

They will be bugs in their next life.

Other than that have you talked with a lawyer (for whatever that's worth).

Have talked to a lawyer - waste of time. The laws are not designed to assist the working man, but to enhance the status quo of management / power.

Don't think they will come back as bugs. That's wishful thinking, no?

Do bugs get to come back as lawyers?

I guess you have to weigh your sense of justice against the possibility of your life being even more screwed up. That's a judgement only the individual can make.

Evil grows, when people do nothing...

"CIA dirty tricks" books are a good source of inspiration.

you have to ask whether the costs to pursue justice will be greater than the benefits. And if so, then it is more desirable to do nothing. However, people measure the costs to pursue justice in different ways.

I've always fought for justice regardless of the consequences. I've been through a few jobs I tell ya. I'll still do it cause its right.

Life isn't fair, but it is rigged to generally work in my favor, so I can't really complain about it.

Animus,
I've always fought for justice regardless of the consequences. I've been through a few jobs I tell ya. I'll still do it cause its right.
I used to think like this when it came to jobs, as I have been through many many jobs as well, by making a public spectacle, and pointing out people's unfair ways to running their businesses. I have discovered that it usually doesn't help the situation. Everyday people usually are not capable of understanding and changing based on one harsh criticism.

I have found that trying to be logical and pragmatic through adapting to an irrational situation is usually the best way to survive. For instance: Getting into a position where you do not have to deal with your supervisors on a consistent basis, trying to stay under the radar, and not voicing a truthful opinion to a boss will keep you from getting the axe.

In a world of madness, adaptation is sometimes the only way. People do not respond well to truth, and they do not change accordingly, so the end result is that you lose because your survival is threatened. Totally different rules apply to the workforce than a forum like this.

bosses are quick to fire people, while employees are generally expendable, and insane bosses actually enjoy the firing process because it gives them a sense of power and control, a sort of release of feeling so powerless throughout the day. I try not to give them a reason these days.

Its like trying to talk truth to a hungry raccoon who is motivated by pure animal self-interest. You can try to talk it out of eating your garbage, but the end result is you will probably end up with your face scratched off, and the beast will simply move down to the next driveway.

I pick my battles. I've only challenged the company I work for when they screwed me and several other employees out of vacation time. It was a violation of the labour law in Canada. Initially they said "We've reviewed the case and found that we've handled it correctly". I pushed through the Ministry of Labour and cited them the Employment Standards Act. They were not happy and shot back encouraging me to drop it. I kept pushing, and eventually they realized where the mistake was and were happy, because they screwed themselves out of vacation time as well. It was a company-wide error. Conversely I was terminated from the Technology Operations department for tardiness and "incompetence", but in actual practice I proved to be more competent than the others in the department, and they decided to terminate me. I didn't fight it because its not such a big deal.

the concept of justice is flawed. people of power seek to be in power; those who seek power do not wish for justice, they wish for gain.

If you are still employed and under contract, shut the fuck up and keep your nose to the grindstone.

-tomas-
Look for other work .. or take on an extra part-time job, gain experience in another field then move on. You aren't stating what you mean by "psychiatric injuries" so I'll leave it at my earlier comments.

-tomas-
Without coming across as too illegal .. find out where they live and burn their villa down. Be certain nobody is inside though and that it burns within 10 minutes so no firefighters are injured.

If they've some expensive artwork, jewelry etc .. even better! Nothing sweeter than some union hack who didn't (and was too cheap to) insure his ill-gotten booty.

I look forward to any replies...

Well, in the USA, one can either live off the government handouts (which means some sort of claim that you're half-nuts, lazy, disabled, fill-in-the-blank), or get out there and support your own logical existence, through hard work, (fill-in-the-blank). You wanna be a slave, a pawn and a peasant? Well keep on squandering your eternal life feeling bad...

Methinks this is too simplistic.

Ghandi said that an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. But turning the other cheek preserves the status quo - whereby the villains and 'snakes in suits' get away with murder.

You don't necessarily have to feel bad in order to pursue justice. Should the diasporic families of those jews slaughtered in the Holocaust simply have claimed welfare in the United States and just forgotten about family fortunes, heirlooms, traditions and millions of lost souls. Can we really shed major injustice and trauma that easily?

My guess is that perhaps a Goldfish could but that we cannot.
