Non-Locality

Discussion of the nature of Ultimate Reality and the path to Enlightenment.

Viewing in my mind's eye, a precognitive visual (ie, an image of a chessboard) - then experiencing a synchronistic conversation involving a chessboard, coupled with a telepathic reminder. Though this type of description does little to illustrate the exceedingly personal and meaningful nature of the overlap - there you have it.

I'm inclined to disagree due to the telepathic element, which acts as both reminder and carrier of new information, concerning the meaning of the initial visual. The form of knowledge exchanged, is an instantaneous intuition ("Visual A to Visual B") with no room for any real interpretive bias, as the nature of the exchange is largely beyond the confines of normal experential interpretation.

How often does this perceived experience occur, and in what general circumstances?

These types of experiences began probably six months ago; circumstances vary; frequency also varies. One constant however, is the secretion of the psychoactive chemical compound DMT from the pineal gland during the stages prior to REM sleep. While lying in bed, with eyes closed, I'm able to view a panorama of multi-colored visuals. Many of these visualizations are conceptual in nature, and as such, are then experienced during waking life (usually the following day.) This process is what began 'the precognitive experiments in time.'

Yeah, it is.

Personally, I would do some "entheogens" like LSD and mushrooms probably once a month if they were legal and there were reliable regulation on their quality and potency. Really interesting experiences. Too intense to do very much, though, so very little addictive potential.

Unidian,

This may be of interest, as it pertains to the state I was trying to convey.

Steven, are you of the belief that these altered state experiments are conducive to understanding reality? If so, how?

I'd like to suggest an empirical test.

Direct your daily interest towards guessing the lottery numbers such that this task occupies your every sleeping/waking thought. Twice a week, give me the numbers you think are going to come up and as soon as I win a few times we will have proven precognition. :)

Well, I find that "levels of samadhi" sort of stuff pretty much hocus-pocus, personally.

Having said that, I did have some kind of experience the other night, although I don't see anything more to it than some interesting neurochemistry that can arise under certain circumstances. It has little to do with what something like Zen points to, in my view. I tend to view "mind-expanding" experiences as interesting potential side-effects of a process, but nothing more.

Dan,

Yes, definitely. That was the true intent of this thread; to suss out any potential scientific parallels. Unidian's theoretical article concerning 'time loops' looks to hold a promising key. Though, I have yet to give it too much thought. One thing I am certain of however - these types of experiences point to the potential for acausality to coexist within a deterministic framework. If what Unidian proposes is truth, and our Universe does begin again at the end, then acausality (as evidenced through such paranormal phenomenon as precognition) is this very same over-arching dynamic - displayed on a much smaller, non-localized scale.

I don't see how acausality comes into the picture in all of that. Spatio-temporal dynamics radically different to that which we ordinarily experience are still causal. I'm a little confused by the introduction of that notion/term into the equation. I should add that I have not, in my entire life, seen anything that would constitute evidence for actual precognition.

Well, I wouldn't advise putting too much stock in my paper. I "play" with science and I don't claim any deep knowledge of the ideas concerned. Additionally, even if I'm right, Cramer's interpretation is far from established.

Dan,

The process is acausal because by definition causality is unable to transfer information back through time. The images I receive describe events before they occur.

That would only be the case if time has only one direction. But it may have two.

Well, setting aside the fact that I think your belief that you see things precognitively is a tad batshit crazy, what you said doesn't necessarily follow. I don't see any real difference in someone being caught in a spatio-temporal "glitch" which brings an event to them before other people. However unlikely, I would have thought Relativity allows for such a possibility. To me it's of no more philosophical significance than someone in New York calling someone in Seattle and saying:

NY: "I just saw the sun rise."
Seattle: "No way, that's not possible."
NY: "I did, damn it!"
Seattle: "You're batshit crazy!"

2 hours later

Seattle: "Holy crap, the sun just rose! You're psychic, dude!"
NY: "Yeah! I'm a dancing Jew on 9/11!"

Well, a different light frequency is all.

Philosophically speaking, you're forgetting its potential relavance to following Tao.

Paranormal ability such as precognition allows for higher and higher states of awareness.

I don't think Tao is about such things. I think you're letting wishful thinking get you a bit off-track on this, Steven.

Maybe you've heard the old Taoist story which I'll paraphrase here:

A man set out to follow Tao. After thirty years of practice, he gained many strange abilities. Intending to share his knowledge, he went to a local Taoist sage and said "look, I can walk on water." With great concentration, he slowly walked across the river and back. When he returned, the sage said, "you could have just taken the ferry."

I appreciate the b/levity, Unidian.

The difference between myself and the man in the story, is that the man in the story sought those supernatural abilities over and above a true understanding of Tao...

Of what, reality? Funny, I know all about reality and yet have never won lotto a single time. I think you're mistaking "different" for "higher" here, Steven.

When you speak of "reality," you speak of the QRS paradigm (Absolutes). When I speak of "reality," I'm speaking of the relative reality experienced within The Absolute. So, the availibility for higher states of awareness within the Absolute, is still a very real potential. 1 still equals 1. However, with paranormal awareness, new X's and Y's accompany the fundamental equation.

(And its well beyond wanting to win a lotto ticket...)
