Now let your ego do the talking, as it's all you've grown to know. You have simply identified yourself by a test score or a classification, and have not the creative and willful mind to shed this classification. It's hypocritical in its purest form, as one claims to be superior but operates on an inferior basis.

I enjoyed reading this thread, especially the above message, as it applies to many people on this forum. Many people who joined here, no doubt, typed in something along the lines of "Genius Forum" on a search engine. If I'm wrong, destroy my arguement, as most of you lovely people like doing on here. Look how many replies have been made on someone introducing themselves, albiet not on the right forum. It's a constant battle with all of you, as it is whenever people express different opinions or whenever 'great' minds come together.

Hi KPWoods!

Life itself is a continuous battle of ones own mind against ones own mind. Auguments or ones expression of their system of living automatically is in conflict with another's system of living because of different ways of acceptance of ones outer objective visions and inner subjective feelings. Right or wrong therefore is a matter of interpretation which depends upon ones ability to understand what is needed on different levels of comprehension to make it on those levels not according to book learning, or someone telling you it is this way or that, but how one live on their lever of understanding. Genius is relative to ones way of living within the bounds of ones self unconditionally.

Hello there,

As I said, I discern the need for conflict and different opinions and conjectures in society, it is an constituent of how we live and how we interact with each other. I was merely stating that arrogance is, and will continue to be an underlying state of mind in this forum, and with the people who actively take part in it's debates etc.

What fascinates me is the way an arguement such as this has sprung from an introduction of a member to this forum, the progress of this thread has been interesting to say the least, which is why I read this to the end, instead of skimming the surface as I do with most of the subjects being debated here.

I joined this forum to increase my understanding and knowledge, a 'voyage of self discovery', if you will. I also look to join in with such discussions if I feel that I could contribute something worth reading. My grammar has been helped by this forum too!

Hi KR Woods,

I hadn't really paid attention to this thread---it doesn't seem all that interesting really (I must confess that I generally prefer the threads that I write on, I don't know if that is arrogance or just good taste ;-) But I think you are mistaken about arrogance here (on this thread). Our dear dear Grumpy Carl has, I think, taken a little break and he tends to be a little, well, grumpy. But he is not aware of it. He is surprised when you point it out to him. Diebert is genuinely inquisitive and, of you read his posts, was just mentioning some interesting, common-sense things as a challenge, as a way to get a conversation going. If you are a woman, and I don't know if you are, you will find that here what often goes on is a kind of 'male bantering'. It is often a little adolescent or it can decend to that pretty quickly. It is a particularly male style of communication that tends to be perceived by women as aggression.

It might be interesting to explore the theme of 'arrogance'. What do you mean by that?

I found it through a post Dan Rowden (one of the board admins) left on the Sam Harris forum a few years ago when he was advertising the Reasoning Show podcasts. Have I destroyed your argument? ;)

Hello,

I am in fact, male, and I know exactly what you mean. I have often been asked by a woman why men always seem so agressive towards each other, and I have always replied 'It's just what we do'. I believe it to be something that woman cannot understand fully, when bound by their own assumptions of society, the same as why men are sometimes surprised with how women react to each other.

Which brings me to your question, you asked me what I mean by arrogance. What I believe to be arrogance, or arrogant is a pride someone has in something, it could be anything, which they show in a condescending and overbearing attitude towards others, as well as unwarranted feelings of importance in oneself. Pride seems to be the overriding factor in arrogance.

Hehe, if you look back in the post I said most people, as I know that people will undoubtedly have found this site without so bluntly searching for a 'Genius Forum'.

It could also be argued, I suppose, that one who does search for a 'Genius Forum' is merely searching for enlightenment or wanting to convey their enlightened state on others. I appreciate the point you brought up though :)

I found this forum in this way: I was deeply affected by the loss of a relationship with a women that was important to me, or so I thought. It was one of those events that throws you back into yourself, or against a wall. I realized---subconsciously---that the 'event' was going to require a complete revision of myself, my relationship with women, and oddly enough, with everything. Somehow, I came across a snippet of a quote by Weininger, who is either a 'woman-hater' or a 'sage of Correct Understanding of the female' depending on who you talk to, and then, one link followed another and I found my way to this forum.

Still haven't sat down and read Sex and Character but plan to in about a month.
I can't go on. I'll go on.

I like the sound of it, so I might read it myself. Free time's difficult to come by these days, sadly, so it may be a while before I actually get down to reading it.

A true genius would realize that thought is without gender, and that any beliefs to the contrary are born of ignorance of this truth.
