Internet Explorer 8

Post by brokenhead »

Just a heads up for those of you who use IE exclusively.

I just "upgraded" to IE8 and have found that the forum behaves erratically under this version. There are other kinks to IE8, but problems with GF are really irritating.

Specifically, when you open up a reply window with the POSTREPLY button and begin entering and/or pasting text, the window will stop scrolling after a while. The text you are entering does get entered into the window, but you cannot see it immediately. Then when you manually try to scroll down, the frame jumps all over the place. In addition, if you highlight some text to quote into the reply window, you cannot scroll up through the poster's reply to get to the quote button without losing the highlighted passage.

It is frigging annoying.

Use Firefox if you have it until the bugs get worked out of IE8, that is, if they ever do.

From Microsoft:

Compatibility View
Internet Explorer 8 is a new release and some websites may not yet be ready for Internet Explorer 8. Click the Compatibility View toolbar button to display the website as viewed in Internet Explorer 7, which will correct display problems like misaligned text, images, or text boxes. This option is on a per site basis and all other sites will continue to display with Internet Explorer 8 functionality. To go back to browsing with Internet Explorer 8 functionality on that site, simply click the Compatibility View button again.

NOTE:
Adding theabsolute.net to the Compatibility View list alleviated some, but not all, of IE8's squirrely behavior with GF.

I just upgraded to IE8 as well, but I use Firefox for 95% of my web activity. I only use IE for places where Firefox's plugins fail me.

You can go back to IE7, right?

How would you do it? Uninstall IE8 and reinstall IE7? There's no rollback feature with IE8. Rolling back is not the Microsoft way.

I can't say how. My understanding - from what I've seen in tangential issue surfing - is that since IE6 it's possible to roll back to previous versions of IE. Try Google. I could be wrong but I think it's possible.
