Mid-life Crisis!
Re: Mid-life Crisis!
Faust is correct. Psychiatric and common wisdom dictate that we consider most normal people sane when in fact they are insane. This does not mean the average funny farmer is sane, mind you. Sanity is reserved for the conscious and thinking.
Those seeking to resolve their mid-life crisis, meanwhile, would do well to adopt a mid-life cristos. Yep, accept Jesus.
Kidding of course about Jesus. But the Cristos, or Christ-like beingness is the answer indeed, or, on other words, to work towards Enlightenment.

I agree, the attitude overall is pretty ugly, but then again, the influence humanism has had on psychology I think is what is responsible for the sort of situation they have down in Australia as well as here in Canada. (e.g., you can get taken care of by the government if you refuse to work or are incapable of working due to 'a mental attitude that is abnormal relative to the constructed norm)
On the other hand, what I just said is an absolute truth, as it is an analytic truth, rather than empirical.
I started a new thread on psychiatry.
I'm not too worried about getting or not getting work. In our society, you have to work against yourself pretty hard to not to survive comfortably. With a bit of intelligence, you will get what you need.Faust wrote:I'm also studying psychology at McMaster. I'm really not sure right now. Maybe I'll finish, maybe I won't.And how are you supposed to find work if all jobs require significant experience? What degree do you want?
Not only that, it's just as bad as academic philosophy in its dishonesty, cowardice, moral compromise, and hatred of Individualism and in favour of Collective forces degrading the individual and stripping him of his civil liberties.

I agree that especially in psychology, there are an overwhelming majority of pampered dainty princesses and clueless jocks and pretentious egalitarian Indie twerps riding Daddy's line of credit than there are serious minds. But I don't get too emotional over it. You just work with what is, making the most of it, according to your idea of 'most'.Most students don't deserve to be in university, with their mindless and blind submission to authority and credulous and uncritical states of mind.
To witness what appears as the 'will to power' is a personal subject interpretation, and not entirely knowable empirically.Faust wrote:sure they do. Nietzsche's "Will-to-Power" or the Will for that matter, is a clear and observable 'thing'.Cory wrote:Ultimate truth, or absolute truths, I agree are certain, but these truths can't give us certainty in regards to empirical matters (e.g., determining what exactly an observable 'thing' is)

no it's not you belligerant jackass. You're a fucktard for talking about "distinctly disorderly behaviour" because it's purely SOCIALLY CONSTRUCTED.The challenge of giving a name and description to someones distinctly disorderly behavior is an empirical matter. A large amount of cases are compared, similarities are noticed, a judgment, however uncertain, is made. In many instances, this is reasonable.
I started a new thread on psychiatry.

You're not worried about getting work??? Well then you're a fool. You don't have to work against yourself pretty hard not to survive comfortably, where the HELL did you get that idea from???? Our society sucks balls, insane high levels of taxes, healthcare isn't even that good, not enough jobs, high cost of living, terrible weather. With a bit of intelligence I will get what I need? WTF you talking about?? I have tons of intelligence and yet university wants none of it. You're not sure if you're going to finish your program?? If you're not sure then that's a problem because you would have wasted lots of time. I don't even know WHY you're continuing with it if you think you can live comfortably..... Canadians don't even make that much money, I think half of the population makes around 30g.
I don't HOW THE FUCK you expect to 'work with what is, making the most of it.' graduate school is just as bad with its sly neworking and kissing ass, conforming to norms and subject matter, political correctness, ad infinitum.

this is false. I can see the will to power with all humans, striving to assert themselves, to affirm their existence, to be recognized, to find contentment. To witness what appears as the 'will to power' is a personal subject interpretation, and not entirely knowable empirically.

You've made it very clear, over and over again, that you are a very frightened and emotional person, bordering on hysteria.Faust13 wrote:You're not worried about getting work??? Well then you're a fool.
I got that idea from the fact that I know I could make a few visits to the psychiatrist and be on disability for a personality disorder, very easily. I've also visited a few communes and organic farms a few years ago, and see it as very viable to go join one of them if things get too ugly. I can also live with my parents, doing local work for wages under the table. I can do many things alternately. You don't have to work against yourself pretty hard not to survive comfortably, where the HELL did you get that idea from????
Experiencing a bit of university isn't so bad. This upcoming semester is only my second year. I only have four credits so far. Overall, I found what they taught often interesting, even though there's lot's of bullshit. But with an open mind, the bullshit can be interesting too. You're not sure if you're going to finish your program?? If you're not sure then that's a problem because you would have wasted lots of time.
I can tell by your melodramatic, hyper-urgent style of writing that your fear of death has you shitting your pants. You need to work on some relaxation techniques or something.I don't know HOW THE FUCK you expect to 'work with what is, making the most of it.'
Look, I do what seems best to me. There is no trying, struggling, or hope. I just do what seems best. If I find my self totally screwed when I'm 50 - so what? Then perhaps suicide might be justified. We'll see. Life isn't that big of a deal. It's nothing to get too excited about either way.
Yes, you have your subjective interpretation of the will to power with all humans. What, you think science can develop an experiment which verifies 'a will to power'?this is false. Hey, thanks for the sentiment, Carl. You're not such a bad guy after all :-)
Yeah, David set me straight on the first page. I just wish I didn't spew those personal attacks on my girlfriend in the opening post. That was pretty dumb. I think I'm going to quit posting about personal stuff altogether if I can summon the discipline. Life is so hilarious, though, it's hard not to post about it.

HAHHAHA, who the FUCK is this jackass???? This statement is a perfect personification of a no-good shrink. You really are a belligerant jackass. I've made it very clear, over and over again???? who the fuck do you think i am? some patient in your retarded shrink office???? very frightened???/ Yeah because my parents are threatening to kick me out if I drop out of uni, not sure whether it's genuine but it could be. I'm an emotional person??? SO THE FUCK WHAT BITCH??? Passion is very good in keeping belligerant jackasses like you away from their consciousness. Bordering on hysteria??? what a fucking joke, according to who, you???? a SUBJECTIVE INTERPRETATION like you say??? Get the fuck out of my face fag, behaving exactly like a shrink, trying to manipulate and exploit.Cory Duchesne wrote:You've made it very clear, over and over again, that you are a very frightened and emotional person, bordering on hysteria.
that's just pathetic. Gives me good reason to leave the country in order not to support belligerant jackasses like you. No wonder Canadian taxes are so fucking high.I got that idea from the fact that I know I could make a few visits to the psychiatrist and be on disability for a personality disorder, very easily.
HAHAHH, communes are rubbish!!! You won't get along that's for sure. And you'll be spending most of your days doing farm work!!! Not only that but meat is the most essential food that we need, so you might want to raise cattle and chickens or something. Most people are idiots thinking high-carb, sugary, and starchy foods such as bread, rice, grains, potatoes, oranges,etc... are good for you!!! Fruits are overrated as well, nothing but sugar, and the good things they do have, meat already has in much higher proportions. Canada and America's food guide are pure bullshit written by vegetarians with an agenda, there's NO SCIENCE behind those 'food pyramids' at all, and will cause many diseases.I've also visited a few communes and organic farms a few years ago, and see it as very viable to go join one of them if things get too ugly.
experiencing university is rubbish nonsense, not to mention the lack of vigorous debate and constant need to kiss ass and memorize rubbish that you won't use. No philosopher would participate in such a thing. Bullshit isn't interesting, especially when you have to WASTE time on bullshit, MEMORIZING and taking up brain space on bullshit.Experiencing a bit of university isn't so bad. HAHAHHA, here's another shrink report. "you can tell by my melodramatic, hyper-urgent style bla bla bla" this guy's pathetic. Hyper-urgent style??? yeah because I hate wasting my time on fags like you and university. Anyone who 'dozes' through something as time-consuming as university without a solid future goal or purpose for doing it is a sheer imbecile.I can tell by your melodramatic, hyper-urgent style of writing that your fear of death has you shitting your pants. You need to work on some relaxation techniques or something.
yes it can, it's called empirical observation and introspection. Any state of being that is asserting itself or confirming or affirming itself is a manifestation of the Will. Any state of being that is striving, desiring, yearning is a manifestation of the Will. Confidence in general is a manifestation of the Will.Yes, you have your subjective interpretation of the will to power with all humans. What, you think science can develop an experiment which verifies 'a will to power'?

Yet another example of the phenomenon displayed when the Muslims responded to the Pope calling Islam a violent religion by becoming violent. "I can spend many months at a time in deep solitude with very little relationship with anyone, and experience the depths of clarity, but suddenly, terror sets in, suddenly I don’t want it anymore, suddenly I doubt the infinite, the worth of it, I imagine myself in this state indefinitely, and I react, I want anything but the state I’m in, Suddenly I want to have a connection with something that is other than what I am, and this is where the whole pursuit of the feminine comes in."
Sounds like you hold it as an ideal to one day be entirely free of any attachement to anyone or anything.
I hope my thoughts on the matter will not be badly received, however when I read the above the first thing I think is that the problem is described above, contained above, but that perhaps you don't have an awareness of it. (Here goes...) I don't think the term 'infinite' is a term that makes any sense at all. It is not a thing but rather a concept. As a concept it is not something that can be pursued or that one can attach oneself to, and so it seems that to do so is to attach oneself to an unreal thing. If that is true, it would most likely occur naturally and rhythmically that one would recoil away from it, and back toward all the things, people, places and activities in life that are the real 'real things'.
I cannot place any stock, or very little, in the ideal of 'enlightenment'. It is talked about as if it were a thing sitting off a little ways, something that you have to decide to reach over and take. If there is such a thing (there are different descriptions of it by religious people) I don't think it is something that is 'attained' and yet people use these terms all the time. I will risk saying that the ideal as it is presented and the pursuit of it will end up stunting a person (a man or a woman) and will turn into a complex that will need to be overcome to progress.
It seems to me that in one way or another if you have the desire or the need or the inner structure to crave relationship with women or with a women, that you will never be able to deny this or cut it out of yourself.

Re: Mid-life Crisis!
Give me a break, as if Christians won't get violent if Muslims called Christianity a violent religion, or Catholics won't get violent if Muslims call Catholics a violent religion. Or if Muslims call Jews and Zionists violent they will be labelled "anti-semites". Why won't the pope be labelled "Anti-Muslim or Anti-Arab" if he calls Islam violent, just cause he's a fucking pope??? The double-standard is truly unparalleled.Elizabeth Isabelle wrote:Yet another example of the phenomenon displayed when the Muslims responded to the Pope calling Islam a violent religion by becoming violent. I only disagree with the part of Cory's statement that says "bordering on" as the hysteria seems full-blown to me.
Fact is, almost every western Zionist media portrays Islam as violent bla bla bla, while Christianity and Zionism and Judaism as good. The pope is a retard for calling Islam a violent religion because his own institution has always been violent, which makes him a total, unintelligent idiot, and which is why Muslims have perfect reason to react violently to this scumbag who wields power in an institution that shouldn't exist according to Jesus. What else would Muslims do, shrug it off like doormats???? It's hilarious how easily Americans like Elizabeth get brainwashed by Zionists.
Secondly, who the fuck are you to label me 'hysterical'???? It's a subjective interpretation. What a fucking joke, just because you have some pathetic academic credentials that have nothing to do with Truth or Reality??? Instead of trying to refute my claims which you're unable to, you resort to name-calling and Mob Psychology to corner me in. Cory has this retarded notion that just because his life is going fine, everyone else's should be as well and if it's not there's something wrong with them, which is the typical and exact attitude of a no-good shrink. I'm worried about university because my parents might kick me out so he calls me 'over-emotional and frightened'. WTF is that, that's pretty pathetic. And you to support him shows that your own academic credentials are nothing but sophistry and charlatanism without any regards to the situation or the nature of the problem.
belligerant jackass is a perfect term for shrinks who desire nothing but to drug, incarcerate, and destroy patient's lives. They have no idea how the drugs work and yet they administer it like they're gods. Just talk to Trevor who has a shrink that didn't like his haircut for fuck's sakes, he'll tell you all about the field, he has much more experience than you.

No, not really. My notion is that if someone's life is going so disastrously, incompetently and miserably that they feel unable to control themselves and feel in need of help, then it's likely that their behavior and mind state resonates strongly with other past or present patients who have been studied and recorded, and that this is important in regards to knowing what environmental and genetic factors beget such unideal individuals. My notion is that people who are seriously struggling need to be studied more, not less - and this study is for the sake of creating a superspecies. More detailed case histories need to be worked out based on a keener understanding of what to look for in a patients past history, not to mention, more detailed biological analysis needs to be done. Psychiatry has just scratched the surface.Cory has this retarded notion that just because his life is going fine, everyone else's should be as well and if it's not there's something wrong with them
This forum doesn't value emotionalism and 'worry' - let alone the attempt to transfer it over to others. (e.g., you called me a fool for not being worried about getting a job, one of the most generic worries a person can worry about)I'm worried about university because my parents might kick me out so he calls me 'over-emotional and frightened'.
Please make an effort to calm down and drop the melodramatic writing style and abusive remarks. If you have something to say, say it without the gassy embroidery of triple question/exclamation marks, capital letters, underlining, etc - such embellishments are not enhancing your case.

Faust, Christianity is steeped with violence as well - not just in history or formal wars, but also in their own communities. Look at the Christians who think they are doing God's work by murdering doctors who perform abortions, and bombing clinics which are the only option some women can afford to get medical treatment just because one of the procedures available there is abortion.
Faust, in your emotionalism, you missed the point. I did not say that Christianity was non-violent; I pointed out that doing what one is accused of doing affirms rather than refutes the accusation.
And what do you mean kick you out of college? If you want to go bad enough, pay for it yourself. I paid for all but my first semester of college, and had to live out of my car while going through a few semesters. It was not the best way to get through, but if you're an adult, your parents don't have to control your whole life anymore.

WOWWWW. yes my problem of not wanting to go through a possibly useless and delibitating university education is due to 'incompetence' or 'genetic factors' righttttt. exactly like a shrink, not actually looking at the problem. for other problems that aren't as concrete such as paranoia, depression, etc etc.. there are existential explanations. But for problems such as being threatened to be kicked out of the house, and being forced to go through a bad education? righttt it's due to 'incompetence' and 'genetic factors.' rightt. people who don't like being threatened out of the house are 'seriously struggling and need to be studied more.' Re: Mid-life Crisis!
I did misread. It is more difficult to understand a point buried under cussing, all caps, and other signs of emotional outburst.
There is no reason for your parents to financially support you, house you, feed you, or anything beyond the legal age of 18. That they were willing to provide for you while you were in college is the sign of very supportive parents. The deal between parents and kids is that parents agree to raise the kid or find someplace safe for it to go because the kid didn't ask to be born. Once the kid is done being raised, whether through mutual parent and state decision that the child is grown enough to be independent or through the child's choice of refusing to be raised further, the parent's obligation to the child is finished. Your parents were willing to continue their obligation through college, but otherwise you were raised as best as they could do. It sounds like it is your choice on whether you want to be raised further or if you feel that it you are all grown up and are ready to be out on your own. That your parents are not enabling you to bum off them is a sign that they are not suckers, but responsible parents. The last step of raising a child is seeing it out of the nest. They probably would have thrown you out not long after college anyway, so do you want to stay there, miserable, for just another couple of years just to have someone else put a roof over your head and food in your belly?
If you don't want to go to college now, then don't go. Obviously you have difficulty following a point or communicating well, so I'm not so sure you're learning anything in school anyway.
As for the rest of your post, you are not hearing what I am saying anyway so there is no reason for me to put up with your abusive language. You will find that if you just go around cussing, name calling, and not even trying to hear the other person's point of view, many people will just start to ignore you. I hope you find it insulting to your intelligence that I feel that I must inform you that I will be ignoring you for now because I do not have hope that you can be reasoned with at this time.

Elizabeth Isabelle - I did misread.

Not that i agree with all she says... she mostly comes across with intellectual knowledge so many of us in humanity choose not to pursue.
Perhaps negotiate with your parents that you could attend university "part-time" and get a "part-time" job - gainful employment to support yourself, help pay utilities, mortgage whatever. Probably "most" parents cannot even offer to pay their kids way to age-22.
Times are getting tough in the USA... learn while young with all the aid at your disposal.
The occasional cussing to make a point is one thing...
That said... some teenaged adult living in my house with a foul-mouth (especially around his mom) would be sent a cab and out the door with whatever is on your person, in your pockets... yesterday. Driven to one of the homeless shelters i volunteer and on your own...

Re: Mid-life Crisis!
pftt, an entirely arbitrary age that has no real meaning behind it and terribly fails to take into account the specific circumtances, predicaments and problems of the individual and the local environment. It's funny how you use the law to justify this instead of parental roles or the specific predicaments of a youth.Elizabeth Isabelle wrote:There is no reason for your parents to financially support you, house you, feed you, or anything beyond the legal age of 18.
i would say parents shouldn't ever threaten to kick their kids out no matter what happened since they didn't choose to be born, it's much more responsible and honest. The deal between parents and kids is that parents agree to raise the kid or find someplace safe for it to go because the kid didn't ask to be born.
actually it's not. I don't want to be 'raised' I just would want to work and support them financially instead of going a useless and debilitating education. However they want me to go to university instead of working as they have delusional belief that it's much more worth it without caring about the psychological trauma that occurs when one is in university. It sounds like it is your choice on whether you want to be raised further or if you feel that it you are all grown up and are ready to be out on your own.
hahah responsible? Parents aren't responsible if they bring people into this world without their consent and decide they can kick them out if they've arbitrarily felt that they've 'raised' them. That your parents are not enabling you to bum off them is a sign that they are not suckers, but responsible parents.
actually they wouldn't, an entirely wrong assumption on your part, jackass. Parents delusionally believe in society too much to think clearly, so they think that even going to university and failing or not being able to get a job after was worth it.They probably would have thrown you out not long after college anyway
if I don't go to college I'm threatened to be kicked out, I've offered to find work and pay rent, but they think that I won't be able to find work and they're delusionally stuck with the belief that I will have a better chance if I go to university, because it sounds impressive and all that bullshit. School doesn't teach you much, memorizing and lectures are quickly forgotten after graduation, not to mention most jobs having not much to do at all with your degree, just empty formalities and qualifications to fill pockets. You're an idiot for not seeing that universities are not places of vigorous debate, which drastically lowers the quality of education and learning, perhaps destroys it alltogether. If you don't want to go to college now, then don't go. Obviously you have difficulty following a point or communicating well, so I'm not so sure you're learning anything in school anyway.
hahaha, what the hell is this??? you...HOPE???? that I would find it insulting to my intelligence of an idiotic opinion of yours??? My my the vanity!I hope you find it insulting to your intelligence that I feel that I must inform you that I will be ignoring you for now because I do not have hope that you can be reasoned with at this time.
It's a shame that parents are largely not philosophers and have no sympathy or the intelligence to understand the importance of it, as such if their teenager ever comes across it, they are terrified.
from the Thinking Man's Minefield (Life and Death magazine):
Dear Sally, I am worried about my fourteen year old son. He is adamant that he wants to be a philosopher when he grows up. When he first got this notion into his head a couple of years ago I assumed it was just a one those silly things adolescents have to go through. But it has become an obsession with him. He seems to think he is "Spock" from Star Treck, or something. Is my son what is called "a megalomaniac". Is it my fault? Most boys his age want to become models, masseurs, musicians, or dress designers - is there anything I can do to set him on the right path? - A Concerned Mother
Dear Concerned Mother, it is certainly not your fault. What you are observing is a simple biological phenomenon. A hormone called testosterone begins to course through a boy's veins in higher concentrations at this age, and this deludes the boy into thinking he is either different or better than other people. In older men the testosterone levels fall off and they become much more sensible, mature, and humane. Patience, then, is one solution. Other things you can do include spending more time with him yourself - establish a one-to-one relationship with him. Encourage him to share his feelings, and get him more involved with other people his own age. One thing you must ensure is that your son doesn't spend too much time by himself where he can get wrapped-up in his own thoughts. Solitary thinking can be so unpleasant, and very often destructive. It is every mother's duty to protect her own from themselves. Does he have a girlfriend?
Sue also says it...
Being brought up in any society means you inherit a set of beliefs, which have proven successful in keeping that group together. Whatever set of beliefs are placed before you, you must accept them, or risk expulsion from the group. The family unit is at the heart of this indoctrination, making it very difficult for any member to ever break free. This is made obvious when you consider the teenager: they push and shove at their bounds, fighting to make a life of their own – then they grow-up, get a job, find a partner, and talk about how they can best protect their assets, and how being loved and showing compassion are all that really matter in life.
Some people tell me that they're not like that; that they have broken free from their societies beliefs, and are now living the life of an individual.
But it’s difficult to believe a word of it, and for good reason -

There is this double-standard rule in the United States (and parents have no choice but to put up or shut up)
Age-21 to legally consume alcohol, enter a drinking establishment - & provide a government ID. So... if you have some pals that are at least 21 buying your liquor supplies and you decide to drink it at your place of residence (your parents home) best to have their permission. Even better to have them buy the booze and crack a beer with them if they are the (still) drinking type.
Dinner wine at meals? - a whole different matter in the eyes of the law.
It simply matters (self respect) who you do your "cussing" around, if you're in the company of your male friends at your home - in the end you are what you say.
Parents and kids, had to leave the farm/ranch as it was 5 consecutive years of crop failures... late 1950s.
I have done the best with the knowledge i had at the different stages of my life. I mowed/watered lawns, shoveled snow, farm laborer on relatives' farms, bagged groceries, and babysat when we moved to town to help make ends meet (we were dirt-poor) My dad had three jobs to raise 4 kids and support he and his wife. My mom had a side-job as a "cleaning lady" at a couple different business establishments beside doing "all" the housework at their home.. besides nurturing 4 kids.
One needs to look at it this way, make it a "team effort" til you leave the protective nest of mommy and daddy.
Parents have "bragging rights" about their kids... i honestly believe this to be true in all cultures. The "normal" parent wants it as good for the offspring as it was for them.
The argument (if you will) is that you have problems with a parent-adult as you are now an adult (age-18) and living in their home (nest)... they have the rear-guard action of calling the cops and getting you out of their hair once and for all. After a week or two, if they have other kids to raise in the home, they will literally forget about you. Take all your material goods (crap) and dump it at the local Goodwill Store. Out of sight, out of mind.
You have one time to get it right in this world, if you can't get along (make an accomodation) with your parents... it's a pretty much given that you'll founder in the real world of hard knocks.
Leave your mom alone, you are the problem child.

If you have younger brothers/sisters why lay it off on them, they have "problems" they have to take to mom and dad. Having to listen to your rants only hardens them to reasonable discourse because they don't know when you will fly off the handle on lifes' little nuances.
Grow up, and/or fawking get out on your own. We all got hangups in life, but controlling ones' "bad" mouth is simply "civil discourse" be it be on a Philosophical Forum :-)
Some of your posts are very good, as Elizabeth stated, control the "cussing" and your points would be better understood.
Of course some university classes can be lousy a good share of the time, but so is manual labor... because you didn't strive for a proper education. It's what makes it a well-rounded education, the good, the bad, the downright ugly.
Sooner or later, pal, you're gonna be on your own and better to be on speaking terms with those that did their best (as they saw fit) than to creep through life knowing what could have been...

once again this law does not have much justice to it. If parents want to bring kids into this wretched world without their consent, they should be prepared to be fully responsible for them.they have the rear-guard action of calling the cops and getting you out of their hair once and for all.

again I don't see why you're making the mom a special exception. Funny thing is that my mom doesn't leave ME alone, they want to mother, without it they would cease to exist.Leave your mom alone, you are the problem child.
i can't cuss 'around' my parents??? So if I fall and hurt myself I can't simply cuss out of pain? not at all directed at my parents?Cussing "to" the mom... I said "around" the mom.
I get trash-mouthed when idiots want to tell me how I feel and get a kick out of trying to dehumanize me. much like a shrink. If she ain't a trash-mouth like you portray your "self" to be... get a life away from her.

I got that idea from the fact that I know I could make a few visits to the psychiatrist and be on disability for a personality disorder, very easily. Overall, I found what they taught often interesting, even though there's lot's of bullshit. But with an open mind, the bullshit can be interesting too. You're not sure if you're going to finish your program?? If you're not sure then that's a problem because you would have wasted lots of time.

Yes, you have your subjective interpretation of the will to power with all humans. What, you think science can develop an experiment which verifies 'a will to power'?this is false. I can see the will to power with all humans, striving to assert themselves, to affirm their existence, to be recognized, to find contentment. To witness what appears as the 'will to power' is a personal subject interpretation, and not entirely knowable empirically.
