Finally an admission...
Finally an admission...
....that nobody wants to take responsibility for themselves. Fast foward this video to the 7 minute and 25 second mark and wait for the man in the pink tie to drop his line. I was expecting the audience to laugh but all I heard was silence. Deeply disturbing to say the least.

I think that the audience probably don't take the words of someone wearing a pink tie very seriously. That's probably why he wears a pink tie.
Also, this is a kind of comedy show, isn't it? That's another reason for not taking people's words on this show too seriously.

I'm not getting the "line" Nick is referring to.

That's kind of why I was expecting a chuckle from the audience. To me their silence came off as a sort agreeance with what he was saying.Kevin Solway wrote:I think that the audience probably don't take the words of someone wearing a pink tie very seriously. That's probably why he wears a pink tie.
Yes but they do have some semi-serious discussions.Kevin Solway wrote:Also, this is a kind of comedy show, isn't it? That's another reason for not taking people's words on this show too seriously.
The exact line comes at about the 7 min. and 38 second mark by the man in the pink tie.Dan Rowden wrote:I'm not getting the "line" Nick is referring to.

It's a non-issue. They weren't focusing on personal responsibility and what that might mean. No, some joker just dropped the line, in the context of a political gum-flapping, the host kind of commiserated -- okay, it was semi-awkward second or two -- and then the discussion went on.
Now, if we really look at it, it's true, just about nobody wants to take personal responsibility for their lives, their actions. What of it? Why are you, Nick, deeply disturbed by this? Is it news to you? Is it news to you that it can be broadcast over the media and an uproar doesn't ensue?
News Flash: the human race, for the most part, is asleep.

Plus that guy is a rabid conservative. What he means by it is something quite particular in a socio-political context, which includes the sentiment: screw you if our socio-economic system has put you in a bad place. To want help is to not want to take responsibility for yourself.
I'm not sure I'd be gleaning too much, philosophically, from his statement.

Yeah I misunderstood the context he made his statement in. Although I do agree that liberals, and the neoconservatives in particular rely too much on big inefficient government to accomplish some of the tasks that should be privatized. I'm all for less taxes and less government spending, they have no business spending mine and other's money the way they do. Not to mention that when you have that much power over the direction of society concentrated in government it makes it all too easy for greedy corporations and lobbyists to bribe government officials into catering to their special interests.
