Re: Celestia
I didn't get around to testing this out yet. been really busy.
Re: Celestia
Dan,
What are you using as virus protection for your comp? I use AVG, but now they want money, and I just don't like to pay for stuff if I can get it for free legally.
I appreciate any suggestions / advice.

Re: Celestia
Avira's free version seems the best to me after a few years of use on various Windows stations. It's also doing quite well in many official tests. Never had any issue and I need stuff to work for a living.
Re: Celestia
I run AVG Free now for active prevention, if I get a virus I usually hit it with:
Malwarebytes
Spybot
Adaware
Trend Micro Housecall (Online scan & remove)
If these scans fail I'll spark up Hijack This and attempt a manual clean. Reference sites like F-Secure for removal instructions.
And if all else fails, format my HDD.

Re: Celestia
On another note there was some virus that was supposed to go live today (April 1st). Our technology dept. got a heads up and we looked at the date (April Fools) thinking it was a hoax. But now I'm hearing its not a hoax!

Aye, so it is. And I am on that continent!Shahrazad wrote:Animus, it's only March 31 in the western continent.
I didn't look at the date today, but last night it was the 31st, so I slept and thought it'd be the 1st. Did I mention the date-centre in my brain is fucked up? Seriously!
For almost 30 years I've had the same family, same siblings, same parents all with the same birthdays. Father's day and Mother's day fall on the same day every year and all other holidays too. But damned if I can remember them!
Re: Celestia
Animus, do you use Yahoo Calendar? It is an easy way to keep up with events, appointments and birthdays for forgetful people like us. It never lets me forget a birthday or anything else I place there. It will even send you a reminder to your cell phone. For almost 30 years I've had the same family, same siblings, same parents all with the same birthdays. Re: Celestia
Excuse me for butting in, Shah, but I just switched to AVG Free on my own PC and it seems to be doing the job. I also just yesterday installed AVG Free on a friend's laptop because Norton Utilities free trial slowed her system down markedly. AVG Free has been working fine for me. In fact, I replaced my ZoneAlarm anti-virus with AVG Free because ZA was making my system very slow to shut down and restart. AVG Free is still free AFAIK.Shahrazad wrote:Dan,

Re: Celestia
I use AVG free, as well, and it seems to work fine.
Yahoo Calendar sounds cool. I might look that up. I seem to have a hard time using regular calendars and datebooks for my appointments.

Thanks, dudes.
For some reason, I keep getting a message that I need to upgrade to AVG 8.5, and when I went to the website, it said I had to pay for it. But I found the free version now.

Re: Celestia
Just so you tech-head types know, I found a solution to the problem I posed in this thread. I eventually found a registry fix that has now got all my programs that are supposed to capture .avi video working!
For the curious:
