Re: Music that moves
"Bitch Bad"
Yeah
I say bitch bad, woman good, lady better
Hey...
Now imagine there’s a shawty, maybe five maybe four
Ridin’ ’round with his mama listening to the radio
And a song comes on and a not far off from being born
Doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong
Now I ain’t trying to make it too complex
But let’s just say shawty has an undeveloped context
About the perception of women these days
His mama sings along and this what she says:
“Niggas, I’m a bad bitch, and I’m bad bitch
far above average”
And maybe other rhyming words like cabbage and savage
And baby carriage and other things that match it
Couple of things that are happenin’ here
First he’s relatin’ the word “bitch” with his mama, comma
And because she’s relatin’ to herself, his most important source of help,
And mental health, he may skew respect for dishonor
Bitch bad, woman good
Lady better, they misunderstood
(I’m killin’ these bitches)
Uh, tell ‘em
Bitch bad, woman good
Lady better, they misunderstood
They misunderstood
(I’m killin’ these bitches)
Yeah, now imagine a group of little girls nine through twelve
On the internet watchin’ videos listenin’ to songs by themselves
It doesn’t really matter if they have parental clearance
They understand the internet better than their parents
Now being the internet, the content’s probably uncensored
They’re young, so they’re malleable and probably unmentored
A complicated combination, maybe with no relevance
Until that intelligence meets their favorite singer’s preference
“Bad bitches, bad bitches, bad bitches
That’s all I want and all I like in life is bad bitches, bad bitches”
Now let’s say that they less concerned with him
And more with the video girl acquiescent to his whims
Ah, the plot thickens
High heels, long hair, fat booty, slim
Reality check, I’m not trippin’
They don’t see a paid actress, just what makes a bad bitch
Disclaimer: This rhymer, Lupe’s, not usin’ bitch as a lesson
But as a psychological weapon
To set in your mind and really mess with your conceptions
Discretions, reflections, it’s clever misdirection
Cause, while I was rappin’ they was growin’ up fast
Nobody stepped in to ever slow ‘em up, gasp
Sure enough, in this little world
The little boy meets one of those little girls
And he thinks she a bad bitch and she thinks she a bad bitch
He thinks disrespectfully, she thinks of that sexually
She got the wrong idea, he don’t wanna fuck her
He thinks she’s bad at being a bitch like his mother
Momma never dress like that, come out the house, hot mess like that
Ass, titties, dress like that
All out to impress like that
Just like that, you see the fruit of the confusion
He caught in a reality, she caught in an illusion
Bad mean good to her, she really nice and smart
But bad mean bad to him, bitch don’t play your part
But bitch still bad to her if you say it the wrong way
But she think she a bitch, what a double entendre
Bitch bad, woman good
Lady better, they misunderstood
You’re misunderstood
Bitch bad, woman good
Lady better, greatest motherhood

Nice taste, Dennis. That's my favouri ... rite movie. It manages to be haunting, bittersweet and soaring all at once. I feel more connected to you now.Dennis Mahar wrote:I like to take a 20k bike ride and listen to this on an Ipod.
sublime.
A piece of music that affects me in a similar way is the theme from The Piano, another movie that I love.

Thanks chief,
nice taste yourself.
The Piano was a fine, fine movie.
The character Harvey Kietel presented to us in that film is a depth of a man that left me astonished in its possibility for men.
Did you recognise that?
Haven't seen 'the year my voice broke' and will now look for it.
How do you access old movies please?

Re: Music that moves
Ah, The Piano. A movie about a hysterically muted woman who can't get her (voice/)piano moved off a beach because of one man; and can't get to the piano after it's taken hostage by another unless she fucks him. A movie about a woman who won't let anything stand in the way of her music/art, until the hostage-taker/love extortionist presents the metaphorical choice between drowning with the piano/art or living with the dick taming the shrew. A movie about a woman who cannot speak at all until she's handled thusly by a man. I'd have stayed strapped to the goddamn piano all the way to the sea floor for this to be any story of love. For the life of me, I cannot understand the swooning over this movie. It's creepy gauze stretched out over neolithic territory . . . .

Well, so then you do understand the swooning over this movie! And I was thinking briefly they meant Shine, the one about David Helfgott!

Re: Music that moves
You got it amiss Pye.
It was about Keitel's enmeshment in the unconscious pattern of male domination, power/control way of being and his transformation out of that into a new way of being for a man.
His being confronted by the courage of a fierce woman and transforming in the face of that.
It was a film amongst a few others like ''once were warriors' that dealt with the ancient 'unconscious pattern acted out in the conversation between men and women over millennia.
At that time in OZ and NZ, there was attention on 'manhood' and 'what it means to be a man'.
Women had chucked out their ancient pattern of servitude to men a decade or so earlier.
Confronted by the fierceness of the women, men realised they had to look at their shit and bring it to consciousness.
The shrew is any unconscious pattern.
Taming the shrew is turning shit into gold.
Of course the risk in making a film is that it can be misunderstood.
Its in the eye of the beholder as usual.

Dennis, you can purchase a mail-order copy here.
As for commentary on The Piano, I'm not in any place for that, having seen it only once and 20 years ago, but I would simply affirm the quotations of Roger Ebert on the Wikipedia page: "The Piano is as peculiar and haunting as any film I've seen" and "It is one of those rare movies that is not just about a story, or some characters, but about a whole universe of feeling." (noting the lack of weight accorded feeling on this forum)
If I do watch it again I might post something with a little more depth to it.

Laird,
why you so bloody-mindedly misunderstand QRS is a mystery.
if you could take your recognition of causality (dependent origination) a little further maybe you'll see that whatever exists conditionally cannot have permanence or a true nature.
That Spirit IS and existents appear.

feelings are conditional, recognising such counts.(noting the lack of weight accorded feeling on this forum)

After realization of no-choice begins self-enquiry, or so the movie ends.
