Hot Smoke and Sassafras

Postby Tomas » Tue Mar 09, 2010 8:11 am

.

by Roy Cox and Rod Prince

In the midst of sassafras
Many things will come to pass
And the smoke shall rise again
To the place above where it began

Time will surely bring the fire and flame
As surely as it brought the rain
But in the gardens of the moon
Time is held within the silver spoon

If you're happy where you are
Then you need not look too far
If you've found your place at last
Then you need not use the looking glass

Coathanger Love

Postby Tomas » Fri Mar 12, 2010 10:10 am

.

Coathanger love, she did not know where she was,
About the time she woke up,
Left over lust, she did not know what she'd done,
To be so harshly judged
But don't tell me about it, I'm just writing it down,
All I know, she won't show,
When her time comes around...
Hung-over love, you got me where you want me now...
My defences are coming down and it hurts like stones
Just waiting to be Heartbroken... make a promise of your own...
But don't tell me about it, I'm just writing it down,
All I know, she won't show,
When her time comes around,
Don't tell me about it,
I'm still frightened and scared,
Every word, every prayer, I'm singing it for her...
And I never meant to cause you trouble,
Never meant to cause you pain,
God-forgiven, God-forsaken,
Waiting to come home...
If it was skin, I would be down to the bone,
If it was faith, I would be faithless,
If it was sin, then it would be my very own,
If it was grace, I would be graceless...
But don't tell me about it, we were never alone long enough
To bring a blush to her skin, like snow, don't tell me about it
I'm still writing it down all I know she won't show when her
Time comes around...

City of Gold

Postby Tomas » Thu Mar 25, 2010 3:59 am

.

When I was young, I was told
That there was a city
Made out of gold, solid gold

And now, I'm askin' you
Do you think that those stories are true?
And if you say that you do
Would you like to go and
Look for the city with me?

Sometimes I feel that it's got to be real
About the city that's
Made out of gold, solid gold

And now I'm askin' you
Do you think that those stories are true?
And if you say that you do
Would you like to go and
Look for the city with me?

I believe there's a city
Way up in the sky
It's made out of solid gold
Invisible to the eye
Don't ask me why
I believe what I believe, oh, oh

When I was young, I was told
That there was a city
Made out of gold, solid gold

And now, I'm askin' you
Do you think that those stories are true?
And if you say that you do
Would you like to go and
Look for the city with me?

One Man Army

Take these plastic people
Read their lips, now let it linger
Is there anything that makes them sound sincere?
Tightly hold your hand
Take their deep breath, give them the finger
Are you worried
That your thoughts are not quite clear?
(Twitch)
Overlooked, unfit appearance

I remember falling
I remember marching
Like a one man army
Through the blaze
I know I'm coughing
I believe in something
I don't want to remember falling
For their lies

Unbutton your clothes
Undress your soul, show them your vigor
Are those inhibitions easiest to fear?
Take this gasoline tin
Head up high, walk like a winner
Let the bare feet be the last sound that they hear

My birthplace would be hard to find
It changed so many times
I'm not sure where it belongs
But they tell me the Baltic coast is full of amber
And the land was green
Before the tanks came
One day I learned just how it used to be
The devil's curse brought the whole world to it's knees

And it was "Hey you, keep your head down
Don't you look around, please don't make a sound
If they should find you now
The Man will shoot you down"

It's a mighty long way out of the darkness
To where the sun is free to shine
Oh! The truck came by to put us in the back
And left us where the railroad tracks cross the line
Then the border guide took us by the hand
And led us through the hole into the promise land beyond

And I can hear him now
Whispering soft and low
"When you get to the other side
Just you run like hell"

I thought I found a quiet place
Where I could learn how to catch my childhood dreams
But on my left and to my right they keep on shouting
While I'm just stuck here in between
Lord! I'm tired of running and I don't believe I can
I can hear them calling time and time again

And it's "Hey you, keep your head down
Don't you look around, please, don't make a sound
If they should find you now
The Man will shoot you down"

Here it comes! Here it comes! Here it comes! Here it comes!
It's adrenaline for me
That is waiting patiently
For when push comes to shove which it usually does for me

No time here to explain
All the many ways to gain
The sneak-up-behind, jump start your mind for free

And here it comes!

It's a little bit sad
But isn't it fun?
To spend a life chasing chemical #1
Isn't it fun?

The romantics out there say
That emotions aren't this way
But whatever the name, it feels the same to me

And here it comes!

Isn't it fun?

Got my questionairre baby
You know I'm headed off for war
I got my questionairre baby
You know I'm headed off for war
Well, now I'm gonna do some fightin'
Well, no one knows what for
Well, Uncle Sam ain't no woman
You know he sure can take your man
Said Uncle Sam ain't no woman
You know he sure can take your man
Well, there's 40,000 guys in the service list
Doin' somethin' somewhere they just don't understand
Well, I'm gonna do some fightin'
Of that I can be sure
Said I'm gonna do some fightin'
Of that I can be sure
Well, now I want to kill somebody
Won't have to break no kind of law
I got my questionairre baby
You know I'm headed off for war
I got my questionairre baby
You know I'm headed off for war
Well, I want to kill somebody
Won't have to break no kind of law

Time Has Come Today

Time has come today
Young hearts can go their way
Can't put it off another day
I don't care what others say
They say we don't listen anyway
Time has come today
(Hey)

The rules have changed today
I have no place to stay today
I'm thinking about the subway
My love has flown away
My tears have come and gone
Oh my Lord, I have to roam
I have no home
I have no home

Now the time has come
There's no place to run
I might get burned up by the sun
But I had my fun
I've been loved and put aside
I've been crushed by the tumbling tide
And my soul has been psychedelicized

Now the time has come
There are things to realize
Time has come today
Time has come today

by Stampin' Ground

Clinging to tragic tradition
Shackled to inherited lies
The subliminal indoctrination
Of who is wrong and who is right

Even in this enlightened age
Equality's still a dirty word
And expectations still dictate
Time to feel

Who can speak and be heard

Even today

These remnants of a primitive culture
The forlorn cadence of recrimination
Learn to relent before intelligence
It's about time we got with the programme

Emasculate

Years now, it's time to learn
The wisdom of humility
Time to feel the primal strength
Of unchained femininity

Even today

These remnants of a primitive culture
The forlorn cadence of recrimination
Learn to relent before intelligence
It's about time we got with the programme
The primal strength

Take it to the basement you old fraud,

When You Were Young

Postby Tomas » Fri Jul 30, 2010 4:32 am

.

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he comes

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young

Can we climb this mountain? I don't know
Higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
That's takin' easy, easy now, watch it go

We're burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turning
When you were young
When you were young

And sometimes you close your eyes
And see the place where you used to live
When you were young

They say the Devil's water it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he come

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young
(Talks like a gentleman, like you imagined when)
When you were young

I said he doesn't look a thing like Jesus
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But more than you'll ever know

Re: Poetry ~ Humanity i love you

Postby Carmel » Fri Jul 30, 2010 4:25 pm

...an old favorite of mine...

Humanity i love you
ee cummings
-

Humanity i love you
because you would rather black the boots of
success than enquire whose soul dangles from his
watch-chain which would be embarrassing for both

parties and because you
unflinchingly applaud all
songs containing the words country home and
mother when sung at the old howard

Humanity i love you because
when you're hard up you pawn your
intelligence to buy a drink and when
you're flush - pride keeps

you from the pawn shop and
because you are continually committing
nuisances but more
especially in your own house

Humanity i love you because you
are perpetually putting the secret of
life in your pants and forgetting
it's there and sitting down

on it
and because you are
forever making poems in the lap
of death - Humanity

i hate you

Have you ever thought about your soul - can it be saved?
Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave
Is God just a thought within your head or is he a part of you?
Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school?

When you think about death do you lose your breath or do you keep your cool?
Would you like to see the Pope on the end of a rope - do you think he's a fool?
Well I have seen the truth, yes I've seen the light and I've changed my ways
And I'll be prepared when you're lonely and scared at the end of our days

Could it be you're afraid of what your friends might say
If they knew you believed in God above?
They should realize before they criticize
that God is the only way to love

Is you mind so small that you have to fall
In with the pack wherever they run
Will you still sneer when death is near
And say they may as well worship the sun?

I think it was true it was people like you that crucified Christ
I think it is sad the opinion you had was the only one voiced
Will you be so sure when your day is near, say you don't believe?
You had the chance but you turned it down, now you can't retrieve

Perhaps you'll think before you say that God is dead and gone
Open your eyes, just realize that he's the one
The only one who can save you now from all this sin and hate
Or will you still jeer at all you hear? Yes! I think it's too late

Million Miles From Yesterday

Postby Tomas » Sun Aug 01, 2010 5:34 am

.

Born on the edge of a lonely town-searching for something no one had
Smart enough to say good-bye to this lonely town
But not smart enough to never look back

Night falls early on these lonely streets-and time rolls by like a midnight train
Innocence in abundance on these lonely streets-but I feel guilty just the same

Now the words that I have written are ringing in my head
Oh, and I think I believe them
A million miles from yesterday and a million more to go
Still I search each day
Trying to find my way home

Dreams die young in a lonely heart-and the past seems to follow close behind
There's an age old remedy for a lonely heart
But there's no peace in this soul of mine

Now the words that I have written are ringing in my head
Oh, and I think I believe them
A million miles from yesterday and a million more to go
Still I search each day
Trying to find my way home

Still trying to find my way home

Lunatic Fringe - I know you're out there
You're in hiding, and you hold your meetings
I can hear you coming, and I know what you're after
We're wise to you this time we won't let you kill the laughter
Wise to you this tiimmme
OOO-OOO-OOO-uh-Huh

Lunatic fringe - in the twilight's last gleaming
This is open season, but you won't get too far
'Cause you got to blame someone for your own confusion
We're all on guard this time against the Final Solution
(All on guard this time)

Oh Yea-a-a

OOO-OOO-OOO-uh-Huh

We can hear you coming no, you're not going to win this time
We can hear you coming not gonna win
We can hear the footsteps out along the walkway
We can hear the footsteps out along the walkway
(Them play)

Lunatic Fringe - we all know you're out there
Can you feel the resistance?
Can you feel the thunder?

Oh Yea-a-a

Fantasy (Live)

Postby Tomas » Wed Aug 04, 2010 3:02 am

City nights
Summer breeze make you feel alright
Neon-lights
Shining brightly make you brain ignite
See the girls with the dresses so tight
(Give you love) give you love, if the price is right
Black or white
In the streets there's no wrong and no right

Outasite
Buy your kicks from the man in white
Feels alright
Powder pleasure in your nose tonight
See the men paint their faces and cry
(Like some girl) like some girl, it makes you wonder why
City life
Sure is cool, but it cuts like a knife, it's your life
So forget all that you see
It's not reality, it's just a fantasy
Can't you see what this crazy life is doing to me

Life is just a fantasy, can you give this fantasy life
Life is just a fantasy, can you give this fantasy life

Fool For The City (Live)

Postby Tomas » Thu Aug 12, 2010 2:51 am

.

Goin' to the city, got you on my mind,
Country sure is pretty, I'll leave it all behind,
This is my decision, I'm comin' home to stay this time.

Breathin' all the clean air, sittin' in the sun,
When I get my train fare, I'll get up and run.
I'm ready for the city, air pollution here I come!

I'm like a fish out of water, I'm just a man in a hole.
The city lights turn my blues into gold.
I ain't no country boy, I'm just a homesick man.
I'm gonna hit the grit just as fast as I can.

I'm tired of layin' back, hangin' around,
I'm gonna catch that train, then I'll be city bound.

I'll get off on Main Street, step into the crowd,
Sidewalk under my feet, yeah, traffic's good and loud.
When I see my inner child, I'll be walkin' on a cloud.

'Cause I'm a fool for the city, I'm a fool for the city,
Fool for the city, I'm a fool for the city.

Mensa says: Your poem reads like a song Tomas, it sings along
I found myself singing it instead of reading it as a poem. It has rhyme, rhythem and the beat.

You know that you can make your own cd's and record yourself reading your own lyrics. Simply go to a recording studio it's that easy.

I thought about doing it too, but I didn't ever put the thought into action.

You pretend you're high
You pretend you're bored
While you pretend you're anything
Just to be adored
And what you need
Is what you get

You don't believe in fear
You don't believe in faith
You don't believe in anyone
That you can't break

You stupid girl
You stupid girl
I can't believe you faked it
I can't believe you faked it

What drives you on
Can drive you mad
A million lies to sell yourself
It's all you ever had

You don't believe in love
You don't believe in hate
Don't believe in anyone
That you can't break

Stupid girl
Stupid girl
Can't believe you faked it
I can't believe you faked it

You don't believe in fear
You don't believe in pain
You don't believe in anyone
That you can't tame

Stupid girl
Stupid girl
Can't believe you faked it
I can't believe you faked it

Stupid girl
Stupid girl
All you had you wasted
Can't believe you faked it

You stupid girl
You stupid girl
I can't believe you faked it
When all you had you wasted

You stupid girl

When you post it like that, it almost seems perceptive...

Saw that song performed by them live in some cozy festival tent in '98 I think, it was just released.

Masters Of War

Postby Tomas » Wed Aug 18, 2010 9:01 am

.

Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs

You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want to know
I can see through your masks
Want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never know nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy

You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run
When the fast bullets fly
And you turn and run
When the fast bullets fly

You're the masters of war

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
World war can be won
You want me to believe

But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain
And I see through my water
That runs down my drain

You then fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
For the others to fire
Then you sit back and watch
When the death count gets higher

You hide in your mansion
While the young people blood
Flows out of their bodies
And buried in the mud

You're the masters of war
You're the masters of war

Let me ask you one question
Is you're money that good?
Would buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could?

I think you will find
When death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon

And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

You're the masters of war
You're the masters of war
Masters of war
You're the masters of war

Are you such a dreamer
To put the world to rights
I'll stay home forever
Where two and two always make five
I'll lay down the tracks
Sandbag and hide
January has April showers
And two and two always make five
It's the devil's way now
There is no way out
You can scream and you can shout
It is too late now
Because you're not there
Payin' attention
Yeah I feel it, I needed attention
I needed attention
Yeah I love it, the attention
Soon oh
I try to sing along
But the music's all wrong
Cos I'm not
I'll swallow up flies?
Back and hide
But I'm not
Oh hail to the thief
But I'm not
Don't question my authority or put me in the box
Cos I'm not
Oh go up to the king, and the sky is falling in
But it's not
Maybe not

Space Is Deep

Postby Tomas » Tue Aug 24, 2010 5:49 am

.

by Hawkwind

Space is dark, it is so endless
When you're lost it's so relentless
It is so big, it is so small
Why does man try to act so tall
Is this the reason, deep in our minds?

It does not feel, it does not die
Space is neither truth nor lie
Into the void we have to travel
To find the clue which will unravel
Is this the reason, deep in our minds?

The secret lies with our tomorrow
In each of us is a hidden sorrow
The path goes onward through the night
Beyond the realms of ancient light
Is this the reason, deep in our minds?

Re: Music Poetry ~ Kings and Queens

Into the night
Desperate and broken
The sound of a fight
Father has spoken

We were the kings and queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell

Into your eyes
Hopeless and taken
We stole our new lives
Through blood and pain
In defense of our dreams
In defense of our dreams

We were the Kings and Queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the Children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell

The age of man is over
A darkness comes and all
These lessons that we learned here
Have only just begun

We were the Kings and Queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the Children of a Lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell

We are the Kings
We are the Queens
We are the Kings
We are the Queens
