People living their lives for you on TV
Say they're better than you, you agree
She says "Hold my calls" from behind those cold brick walls
Says "Come here boy, there ain't nothing for free"
Another burger, another hot dog, some fries, you're wishing them well
Hope your health don't go to hell, well
Another doctor's bill, a lawyer's bill, another cute cheap thrill
You know you love 'em if you put 'em in your will

Who will save your soul when it comes to the baby now
Who will save your soul after all those lies you told, boy
Who will save your soul if you won't save your own?
Lala, ladubadebwebwedudu oh

We try to hustle them, try to bustle them, try to cuss them
The cops want someone to bust down on Orleans Avenue uh
Another day, another dollar, another war, another tower
Went up where the homeless had their homes
So we pray to as many different gods as there are flowers
But we call religion our friend
We're so worried about saving our souls
Afraid that God will take His toll
That we forget to begin, but

Who will save your soul when it comes to the flower
Who will save your soul after all those lies you told, boy
Who will save your soul if you won't save your own?
Lala, ladubadebwebwedulu oh

Some are walking, some are talking, some are stalking their kill
You got social security, but that don't pay your bills
There's addictions to feed and there are mouths to pay
So you bargain with the Devil, say you're o.k. today,
You say that you love them, take their money and run
Say it's been swell, sweetheart, but it was just one of those things, those strings,
those flings, those strings, those flings, you've got to cut,
So get out on the streets, girls, and bust your butts

Who will save your soul when it comes to the memories
Who will save your soul after all the lies you told, boy
Who will save your soul if you won't save your own?
Lala, ladubadebwebwedulu oh

Ms. Cristina drives a nine four four
Satisfaction oozes from her pores
She keeps rings on her fingers
Marble on her floor
Cocaine on her dresser
Bars on her doors
She keeps her back against the wall
She keeps her back against the wall

So I say
I say welcome, welcome to the boomtown
Pick a habit
We got plenty to go around
Welcome, welcome to the boomtown
All that money makes such a succulent sound
Welcome to the boomtown

Handsome Kevin got a little off track
Took a year off of college
And he never went back
Now he smokes too much
He's got a permanent hack
Deals dope out of Denny's
Keeps a table in the back
He always listens to the ground
Always listens to the ground

So I say
I say welcome, welcome to the boomtown
Pick a habit
We got plenty to go around
Welcome, welcome to the boomtown
All that money makes such a succulent sound
Welcome to the boomtown

Well the ambulance arrived too late
I guess she didn't want to wait

Superhero

We are ten years old
We are holding our breath...underwater
Eardrums burstin' from the pressure
We can touch the bottom
Won't you come away with me?
Oh, we are flying high
Bear carpet on...feet
And we are airplanes today
We can do anything
We can do anything
And I don't ever wanna leave the stage
I am a superhero these days
And I don't ever wanna leave my age
I am a superhero these days
Baby where am I gonna go?
Try and try as I may
I can't make sense of a word I say
And I don't ever wanna leave the stage
I am a superhero these days
And I don't ever wanna leave my age
I am a superhero these days
Touch my cape -- I'll take you
So, c'mon touch my cape -- we're gonna make a whole new world
And I don't ever wanna leave the stage
I am a superhero these days
And I don't ever wanna leave my age
I am a superhero these days

Re: Poetry ~ If

Post by Cahoot »

Rudyard Kipling
If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

Re: Poetry~September 1, 1939 WH Auden

"September 1, 1939"
W.H. Auden

"I sit in one of the dives
on Fifty Second Street
Uncertain and afraid
As the clever hopes expire
Of a low dishonest decade:
Waves of anger and fear
Circulate over the bright
And darkened lands of the earth,
Obsessing our private lives;
The unmentionable odour of death
Offends the September night.

Accurate scholarship can
Unearth the whole offense
From Luther until now
That has driven a culture mad,
Find what occurred at Linz,
What huge imago made
A psychopathic god:
I and the public know
What all schoolchildren learn,
Those to whom evil is done
Do evil in return.

Exiled Thucydides knew
All that a speech can say
About Democracy,
And what dictators do,
The elderly rubbish they talk
To an apathetic grave;
Analysed all in his book,
The enlightenment driven away,
The habit forming pain,
Mismanagement and grief:
We must suffer them all again.

Into this neutral air
Where blind skycrapers use
Their full height to proclaim
The strength of Collective Man,
Each language pours its vain
Competitive excuse:
But who can live for long
In an euphoric dream;
Out of the mirror they stare,
Imperialism's face
And the international wrong.

Faces along the bar
Cling to their average day:
The lights must never go out,
The music must always play,
All the conventions conspire
To make this fort assume
The furniture of home;
Lest we should see where we are,
Lost in a haunted wood,
Children afraid of the night
Who have never been happy or good.

The windiest militant trash
Important persons shout
Is not so crude as our wish:
What mad Nijinsky wrote
About Diaghilev
Is true of the normal heart;
For the error bred in the bone
Of each woman and each man
Craves what it cannot have,
Not universal love
But to be loved alone.

From the conservative dark
Into the ethical life
The dense commuters come,
Repeating their morning vow;
"I will be true to my wife,
I'll concentrate more on my work,"
And helpless governers wake
To resume their compulsory game:
Who can release them now,
Who can reach the deaf,
Who can speak for the dumb?

All I have is a voice
To undo the folded lie,
The romantic lie in the brain
Of the sensual man-in-the-street
And the lie of Authority
Whose buildings grope the sky:
There is no such thing as the State
And no one exists alone;
Hunger allows no choice
To the citizen or the police;
We must love one another or die.

Defenseless under the night
Our world in stupor lies;
Yet, dotted everywhere,
Ironic points of light
Flash out wherever the Just
Exchange their messages:
May I, composed like them
Of Eros and of dust,
Beleaguered by the same
Negation and despair,
Show an affirming flame."

Well if you ever plan to motor west
Just take my way, that's the highway that's the best.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.

Well it winds from Chicago to LA
More than two-thousand miles all the way.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.

Well it goes from St. Louie down to Missouri
Oklahoma looks oh so pretty.
You'll see Amarillo, Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona, don't forget Winona,
Kingsman, Barstow, San Bernardino.

Won't you get hip to this tiny tip
And think you'll take that California trip.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.

Well it goes through St. Louie to Missouri
Oklahoma looks oh so pretty.
You'll see Amarillo, Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona, don't forget Winona,
Kingsman, Barstow, San Bernardino.

Well you get hip to this timely tip
When you make that California trip.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.

I Love some of your poetry Tomas, they speak volumes. Your a Poet and you know it!

Here is a favorite of mine

Despair

Silent tears touch my cheek
I see him tall and muscular, wearing beige khakis
And a baseball cap snug around his head
His voice echoes hello from a distance, so far away and yet so near
He disappears into the sunset
Wait, where are you going, why do you leave so quickly?
I haven't seen you for awhile
Come back, please come back
He leaves me alone in my despair
Hurting as loud as though I sense he'll never come again
The taste of salt moistens my pouting lips, I hear myself sobbing
Then, I awake
Disappointment overwhelms me
For he wasn't really alive
Only in my dreams
I'll see you again someday my son
In Heaven where God keeps his angels

My son Jason was accidently killed on Blackfoot Trail in Calgary in a freak motor accident in 1997, he was only 23 years old.

i opened the door,
hoping to find what we call truth,
but instead only found what we fear,
what we desire to exist no longer,
i opened the door and found myself in nothingness,
i had become what i feared,
i had ceased.

And when we cease to gain material wealth we gain
What do we gain, we gain insight into the God within us all
We gain life, joy, living in the spirit, free from the poisons of death
Death is the prison you're enslaved in, a victim to yourself of mental torture
Until you come to the realization of love which frees you from that bondage of self

When we cease to gain we gain
The spirit of God awakens within you
And your 'self' becomes dead to you

"If you remain in me and my words remain in you,
ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you"

Big Bang Baby

Post by Tomas »

.

I got a picture of a photograph
Of a wedding and a shell
It's just a burning aching memory
I never kiss and tell

So turn it up and burn it
There's a hole in your head
There's a hole in your head
Where the birds can't sing along

Does anybody know how the story really goes
Or do we all just hum along
Sell your soul and sign an autograph
Big bang baby, it's a crash, crash, crash

I wanna, but I gotta laugh
Orange crush mama is a laugh, laugh, laugh

Spin me up, spin me, spin me out
Station to station send me up and out
Is that what life and love is all about
I think I think so

We used to see in color
Now it's only black and white
It's only black and white
Because the world is color blind

Nothing's for free, nothing's for free
Take it away boys
Nothing's for free, nothing's for free
Take it away boys

Thomas that was a rather interesting poem. A bit too classic for me though.

Awake upon my window sill,
Letting freedom flow,
I sit and stand upon my land,
Allowing a prism grow.

The summer waits a far bit south,
Shedding a wisen'd grasp,
I winter wander and do I ponder,
Upon that great southern glass.

A box to hold my loves,
The frame to keep a height,
The essense flows, but does not glow,
Only to reflect in slight.

The sound I can imagine,
Graceing to my drums,
The still movement upon the grass,
Oh to feel the hums.

[Greenhouse]

--

Don't see bleak upon the rain, as rain is under sun. The sun exists upon your bliss and allows your fears to run. Hold and embrace what you can chase, these entities will be dear to you. Sum your chances, behold your branches, and reach for the upper blue.

I love writing poetry :)
To think or not to think.

Orange Crush

Follow me, don't follow me
I've got my spine, I've got my orange crush
Collar me, don't collar me
I've got my spine, I've got my orange crush
We are agents of the free
I've had my fun and now it's time to
Serve your conscience overseas
(Over me, not over me)
Comin' in fast, over me

Follow me, don't follow me
I've got my spine, I've got my orange crush
Collar me, don't collar me
I've got my spine, I've got my orange crush
We are agents of the free
I've had my fun and now it's time to
Serve your conscience overseas
(Over me, not over me)
Comin' in fast, over me

High on the roof
Thin the blood
Another one came on the waves tonight
Comin' in, you hope

(We'd circle and we'd circle to stop and consider and
Centered on the pavement stacked up all the trucks jacked up and
Our wheels in slush and orange crush in pocket and all this here county
Hell any county it's just like Heaven here and I was remembering and I
Was just in a different county and all then this whirlybird that I
Headed for I had my goggles pulled off I knew it all I knew every back
Road and every truck stop)

Follow me, don't follow me
I've got my spine, I've got my orange crush
Collar me, don't collar me
I've got my spine, I've got my orange crush
We are agents of the free
I've had my fun and now it's time to
Serve your conscience overseas
(Over me, not over me)
Comin' in fast, over me

High on the booze
In a tent
Paved with blood
Nine-inch howl
Brave the night
Chopper comin' in, you hope

High on the roof
Thin the blood
Another one came on the waves tonight
Comin' in, you hope

Heroes

Post by Tomas »

.

I
I will be king
And you
You will be queen
Though nothing will
Drive them away
We can beat them
Just for one day
We can be Heroes
Just for one day

And you
You can be mean
And I
I'll drink all the time
'Cause we're lovers
And that is a fact
Yes we're lovers
And that is that

Though nothing
Will keep us together
We could steal time
Just for one day
We can be Heroes
For ever and ever
What d'you day

I
I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins
Like the dolphins can swim
Though nothing
Will keep us together
We can beat them
For ever and ever
Oh we can be Heroes
Just for one day

I
I will be king
And you
You will be queen
Though nothing
Will drive them away
We can be Heroes
Just for one day
We can be us
Just for one day

I
I can remember
Standing
By the wall
And the guns
Shot above our heads
And we kissed
As though nothing could fall
And the shame
Was on the other side
Oh we can beat them
For ever and ever
Then we can be Heroes
Just for one day

We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
Just for one day
We can be Heroes
We're nothing
And nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying
Then you better not stay
But we could be safer
Just for one day

The Pusher - Hoyt Axton, Nina Simone

Post by Tomas »

.

You know I've smoked a lot of grass
O' Lord, I've popped a lot of pills
But I never touched nothin'
That my spirit could kill
You know, I've seen a lot of people walkin' 'round
With tombstones in their eyes
But the pusher don't care
Ah, if you live or if you die

God damn, The Pusher
God damn, I say The Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man

You know the dealer, the dealer is a man
With the love grass in his hand
Oh but the pusher is a monster
Good God, he's not a natural man
The dealer for a nickel
Lord, will sell you lots of sweet dreams
Ah, but the pusher ruin your body
Lord, he'll leave your, he'll leave your mind to scream

God damn, The Pusher
God damn, God damn the Pusher
I said God damn, God, God damn The Pusher man

Well, now if I were the president of this land
You know, I'd declare total war on the Pusher man
I'd cut him if he stands, and I'd shoot him if he'd run
Yes I'd kill him with my Bible and my razor and my gun

God damn the Pusher
Gad damn the Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man

This recording is from his 1969 album, but he penned this song in 1963.

He's called Jesus
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do

Going Up The Country

Post by Tomas »

I'm going up the country, baby don't you wanna go?
I'm going up the country, baby don't you wanna go?
I'm going to some place where I've never been before
I'm going, I'm going where the water tastes like wine
I'm going where the water tastes like wine
We can jump in the water, stay drunk all the time

I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
All this fussing and fighting, man you know I sure can't stay
Now baby, packing up the truck you know we got to leave today
Just exactly where we're going I can not say
But we might even leave the USA
It's a brand new game and I don't want to play

No use of you running or screaming and crying
'Cause you've got a home man, long as I've got mine

Tommy is the name of the first boy I liked, I was 12 years old. Of course there was no thought of sex because it didn't occur in either of our minds. As Tommy grew up, I grew up also and later I so much wanted him to ask me out, but he didn't and I never pursued it. When Tommy was about 18 years old, him and a couple of his buddies decided to go for a swim in the companies massive beer vats, somehow they managed to get inside the building and inside the beer vats. It was a major write-up in the Hamilton paper. I don't know what happened to the fellows after that. But, later on in life he took his own life. His sister took her own life too, she was my best friend, I loved her. I question why did two people from the same household commit suicide, I tend to think the parents loved each other and ignored their kids.

Let me tell you why my girlfriend took her own life. She married a man whom was very feminine. She dressed him up like Wonder Woman (a television series years ago) and they had a halloween party, and won the best costume award. Just knowing her husband-to-be was on the feminine side should have told her something. Anyway, after many years of marriage and several kids, her husband informs her of his intention to become a transsexual. This news shouldn't have come as a surprise to her, however, it floored her, and she took her own life over this news.

What would you do Tomas if your wife or girlfriend informed you of such news?

Run Through The Jungle

Post by Tomas »

.

Whoa, thought it was a nightmare,
Lo, it's all so true,
They told me, "Don't go walking slow
'Cause Devil's on the loose."

Better run through the jungle,
Better run through the jungle,
Better run through the jungle,
Woa, Don't look back to see.

Thought I heard a rumbling
Calling to my name,
Two hundred million guns are loaded
Satan cries, "Take aim!"

Better run through the jungle,
Better run through the jungle,
Better run through the jungle,
Woa, don't look back to see.

Over on the mountain
Thunder magic spoke,
"Let the people know my wisdom,
Fill the land with smoke."

Better run through the jungle,
Better run through the jungle,
Better run through the jungle,
Woa, don't look back to see.

Along Comes Mary

Post by Tomas »

.

Every time I think that I'm the only one who's lonely
Someone calls on me
And every now and then I spend my time in rhyme and verse
And curse those faults in me

And then along comes Mary
Then along comes Mary
And does she want to give me kicks, and be my steady chick
And give me pick of memories
Or maybe rather gather tales of all the fails of tribulations
No one ever sees

When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
Sweet as the punch

When vague desire is the fire in the eyes of chicks
Whose sickness is the games they play
And when the masquerade is played and neighbor folks make jokes
As who is the most to blame today

And then along comes Mary
Then along comes Mary
And does she want to set them free, and let them see reality
From where she got her name
And will they struggle much when told that such a tender touch as hers
Will make them not the same

When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
Sweet as the punch

And when the morning of the warning's past, the gassed
And flaccid kids are flung across the skies
The psychodramas and the traumas gone
The songs are left unsung and hung upon the stars

And then along comes Mary
Then along comes Mary
And does she want to see the stains, the dead remains of all the pains
She left the night before
Or will their waking eyes reflect the lies, and make them
Realize their urgent cry for sight no more

When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
Sweet as the punch, sweet as the punch
Sweet as the punch, sweet as the punch

Who Made Who

The video game says "Play me"
Face it on a level but it takes you every time on a one on one
Feeling running down your spine
Nothing gonna save your one last dime cause it owns you
Through and through

The data bank knows my number
Says I gotta pay cause I made the grade last year
Feel it when I turn the screw
Kicks you round the world, there ain't a thing it can't do
Do to you

Who made who, who made you?
Who made who, ain't nobody told you?
Who made who, who made you?
If you made them and they made you
Who picked up the bill, who? And who made you?

Who made who, who turned the screw?

Satellites send me a picture
Get it in the eye, take it to the world (take it to the wire)
Spinning like a dynamo
Feeling it go round and round
Running out of chips, you got no line in an 8-bit town
So don't look down, no

Ain't nobody told you, who made who?

One Man Army

Take these plastic people
read their lips, now let it linger
Is there anything that makes them sound sincere?
Tightly hold your hand
Take their deep breath, give them the finger
Are you worried
That your thoughts are not quite clear?
(Twitch)
Overlooked, unfit appearance

I remember falling
I remember marching
Like a one man army
Through the blaze
I know I'm coughing
I believe in something
I don't want to remember falling
For their lies

Unbutton your clothes
Undress your soul, show them your vigor
Are those inhibitions easiest to fear?
Take this gasoline tin
Head up high, walk like a winner
Let the bare feet be the last sound that they hear
