This makes sense if you think about pteranodons and other pteranosaurs:

From the Urantia Book, PAPER 52 - PLANETARY MORTAL EPOCHS
Early evolutionary man is not a colorful creature. In general, these primitive mortals are cave dwellers or cliff residents. They also build crude huts in the large trees. Before they acquire a high order of intelligence, the planets are sometimes overrun with the larger types of animals. But early in this era mortals learn to kindle and maintain fire, and with the increase of inventive imagination and the improvement in tools, evolving man soon vanquishes the larger and more unwieldy animals. The early races also make extensive use of the larger flying animals. These enormous birds are able to carry one or two average-sized men for a nonstop flight of over five hundred miles. On some planets these birds are of great service since they possess a high order of intelligence, often being able to speak many words of the languages of the realm. These birds are most intelligent, very obedient, and unbelievably affectionate. Such passenger birds have been long extinct on Urantia, but your early ancestors enjoyed their services.

Theory is often used to signify a conjecture, an opinion, or a speculation. In this usage, a theory is not necessarily based on facts; in other words, it is not required to be consistent with true descriptions of reality. This usage of theory leads to the common incorrect statement "It's not a fact, it's only a theory." True descriptions of reality are more reflectively understood as statements which would be true independently of what people think about them.

To conspire means "to join in a secret agreement to do an unlawful or wrongful act or to use such means to accomplish a lawful end."

A conspiracy theory usually attributes the ultimate cause of an event or chain of events (usually political, social, pop cultural or historical events), or the concealment of such causes from public knowledge, to a secret, and often deceptive plot by a group of powerful or influential people or organizations. Many conspiracy theories imply that major events in history have been dominated by conspirators who manipulate political happenings from behind the scenes.
the label "conspiracy theory" does not necessarily indicate that a theory is false. Theories cited in making this case include those listed above as well as:

The Mafia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia)
The Business Plot to overthrow Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1933 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Plot)
Various CIA involvements in overseas coups d'état :
-Operation Northwoods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods)
-Testimony of Nayirah in 1991 before the US Congress to rally the support of the US public to launch the Gulf War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nayirah)
-The Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuskegee_S ... Negro_Male)
-The General Motors streetcar conspiracy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Mo ... conspiracy)
Gulf of Tonkin Incident (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Tonkin_Incident)
-The MKULTRA mind control program (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_MKULTRA)

The attempted cover-up of scandals during Presidency of Richard Nixon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watergate)

The French government's attempted cover-up following Emile Zola's accusations in the Dreyfus Affair (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreyfus_Affair)

ULTRA, the British collection of WWII Intelligence information
the plot by the British Secret Service to destabilize Prime Minister Harold Wilson, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ULTRA) among others.

Historians often take conspiracy theories "as actual theory, i.e., the viewpoint with the greatest explanatory value and the greatest utility as a starting point for further investigation, explanation and problem solving."

Cognitive dissonance is a psychological state that describes the uncomfortable feeling between what one holds to be true and what one knows to be true. Similar to ambivalence, the term cognitive dissonance describes conflicting thoughts or beliefs (cognitions) that occur at the same time, or when engaged in behaviors that conflict with one's beliefs. In academic literature, the term refers to attempts to reduce the discomfort of conflicting thoughts, by performing actions that are opposite to one's beliefs.

The introduction of a new cognition that is dissonant with a currently held cognition creates a state of "dissonance," the magnitude of which relates to the relative importance of the involved cognitions. Dissonance can be reduced either by eliminating dissonant cognitions, or by adding new consonant cognitions. The maximum possible dissonance is equal to the resistance to change of the less resistant cognition; therefore, once dissonance reaches a level that overcomes the resistance of one of the cognitions involved, that cognition will be changed or eliminated, and dissonance will be reduced.

This leads some people who feel dissonance to seek information that will reduce dissonance and avoid information that will increase dissonance. People who are involuntarily exposed to information that increases dissonance are likely to discount that information, either by ignoring it, misinterpreting it, or denying it

Hysteria is a diagnostic label applied to a state of mind, one of unmanageable fear or emotional excesses. The fear is often centered on a body part, most often on an imagined problem with that body part (disease is a common complaint). People who are "hysterical" often lose self-control due to the overwhelming fear.

Psychologists who do research on cognitive dissonace have established some interesting things. For one: If a person has position A about something, but can be persuaded to give a public speech endorsing position B, he will afterwards be much more likely to espouse position B. If he is given a little reward, say some monetary compensation, for giving the speech, his shifting to position B will be less clear-cut. If he is paid a huge amount of money to give the speech, he is likely to retain his original position A. In the latter case, his cognitive dissonance over believing A while publicly endorsing B is lessened because he can rationalize to himself by thinking "I did it for the money."

Cognitive dissonance is also at work behind the truism that if you want someone to like you, don't do that person a favor; rather, get that person to do a favor for you. The person subconsciously reduces cognitive dissonace by reasoning "I did this person a favor, I must like him."

It's well-known to advertisers that a consumer of a particular product is more apt to pay attention to ads for the product after purchasing it than before. This is because cognitive dissonance is created by the act of purchasing product A and therefore not purchasing product B. Not purchasing B after having considered it creates the dissonance that B might be a better product and might have been a better choice. Dissonance is reduced by viewing ads which affirm a correct decision has been made, and avoiding competitor ads which would suggest a mistake has been made.

The above are examples I recall from studying this topic in various psychology courses in college. There are tons of studies done on this, and it is not hard to see why. It turns out to be frighteningly easy to sway most people's minds about even fundamental beliefs. All you have to do is to get a person to engage in an activity, preferably in a group where there are witnesses, and do not offer any reward for performing the activity.

Is there a manual on this thing or what? Tyrants come and go, but the manual is always being moved around.. Where is the damned thing! net v2.o bah! Hit any key to log off, but you will be missed. Bah I am staying! So what's the reason behind doing such a thing is? Again?

Um.. Chezus would have to be insane to try and come back. Maybe that was him on that street corner in disheveled tattered rags, spouting me some philosophy. I tried to listen, but he wailed on about what he saw, pass him by in ineloquent bursts of continuous barks with such righteous zeal and passion, but then the traffic noise drowned out even his mad ravings. He had risen early that morning to rummage trough the garbage to find some water that he could turn to vine, but all the garbage bins around the world had locks on them put overnight. No wonder he was angry.. hmm, must be human after all.

Pure hysteria! Welcome.. to the freak show. May your broken head heal soon. :-D

I prefer oysters, myself. Turtles are too agile to hunt.

“The time has come,” the Walrus said,
“To talk of many things:
Of shoes—and ships—and sealing wax—
Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
And whether pigs have wings.”

“But wait a bit,” the Oysters cried,
“Before we have our chat;
For some of us are out of breath,
And all of us are fat!”
“No hurry!” said the Carpenter.
They thanked him much for that.

“A loaf of bread,” the Walrus said,
“Is what we chiefly need:
Pepper and vinegar besides
Are very good indeed—
Now if you’re ready, Oysters dear,
We can begin to feed.”

“But not on us!” the Oysters cried,
Turning a little blue,
“After such kindness, that would be
A dismal thing to do!”
“The night is fine,” the Walrus said.
“Do you admire the view?”

“It was so kind of you to come!
And you are very nice!”
The Carpenter said nothing but
“Cut us another slice:
I wish you were not quite so deaf—
I’ve had to ask you twice!”

Ancient Maya had toy carts, but no actual usable full-size wheel carts, or usable wheel of any sort. Ancient Greeks had a toy steam engine. Two millenia before steam engines were used industrially.
