Weekend watching: Milton Friedman on limited government

Post by integral »

As I used to adhere to the political philosophy of socialism, which is one of big government, I found this video to have some really eye-opening insights:

Friedman hit the nail on the head. This is why I said in another thread, socialism fails everytime. To put all the other negative aspects of socialism aside, in my opinion the bottom line is that socialism inevitably puts far too much power and influence into the hands of a small group of corrupt, greedy, and power hungry individuals. As the saying goes, Power corrupts, and Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely. This is why I will be voting for Ron Paul.

So smart... no socialist could withstand his logic. It boggles my mind that these ideas aren't being implemented. People should be screaming for limited government... if only they weren't dumbed down by the government that seeks to increase it's power.

A really good website about individualism and collectivism is:http://www.freedom-force.org. It has some great arguments against socialism. Very informative site; gets to the root of the issue.

Are they being implemented in Canada?

Tomas: no, Canada is on the path to more and more control by the state.

Regarding http://www.freedom-force.org, I am familiar with that website. It is the website of G. Edward Griffin, the author of the classic book on the Federal Reserve.

I've read his 4 part essay entitled Freedom is Calling. Part one is a very powerful refutation of the philosophy of collectivism.
That whole 4 part essay was so insightful regarding what is going on in the world, that it is easily the most important thing I've read in the past few months.

Shoot, double post! Well may as well use up the space...

Good quote from part 1 of the essay:
“Collectivists would have you believe that individualism is merely another word for selfishness, because individuals oppose welfare and other forms of coercive redistribution of wealth, but just the opposite is true. Individualists advocate true charity, which is the voluntary giving of their own money, while collectivists advocate the coercive giving of other people's money."
