Re: What music do you prefer?
I mostly like Tubular Bells, and will attempt to break this down into logic...
It is ever changing, and gradually increasing in power.
The skill involved in playing many instruments is appreciated.
The many forms of modulation, reverb, pitch, and style makes the music almost alive.
The SACD version uses a 5.1 speaker system to full effect.
Then I like Tubular Bells 2,3 as well. Mostly music that has all of the qualities above, especially gradual build up to finale... like.. Freebird, Stairway To Heaven, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, and Black Sabbath.
My brain analyses everything.. can't stop it.

Should've added Elvis Presley to the mix. Sorry, no links here, tried the Ouija Board but no contact with the fellow. Guess he's out to lunch... try again when i hear him on the radio or see him in the ghetto :-)
ps- Saw him three different times in his concert tours, 1968 (the hippie look), 1971 (the karate days), 1975 (the fat elvis).

Classical and techno.
Polar opposites: natural, dynamic music and artificial, rigid music. :-)
Some rock occasionally, too.

Re: What music do you prefer?
Hittin' all the threads today...
All of Tomas' list above, plus any vocal combinations of Ella, Armstrong, Sarah Vaughan.
REM, Indigo Girls, Dolores O'Riordan makes my head spin with her "Go Your Own Way" cover with the Cranberries, why I just thought of that, I don't know.
Grateful Dead, David Bromberg.
Larry Pierce, but you really have to be in the mood for it.
Springsteen, some of it.
Heavy Metal and Rap managed to pass me by entirely.
Some Ska & Reggae makes you want to join an uprising.
Chicago blues hits the spot when nothing else will do.
Mostly I just listen to college radio stations. There are no commercials, you are guaranteed to be exposed to a variety of tastes and cultures, and the repitition factor is low. Hey, there are only 12 notes. Variety keeps you from nodding off.

Re: What music do you prefer?
As I've said before, musical taste is a funny thing; it may be worth looking into it more deeply.
To that end, what reaction do you have to the difference between these two performances of one of my my favorite arias, Nessun Dorma (from Puccini's Turandot), by Pavarotti and Sarah Brightman? I admit Sarah may not be the best example I could have chosen - if you have better please offer them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zB8psfWBZOQ (ignore the fact that Sarah is miming - or, maybe you can't which is why she's a bad example)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONUCPKdGcrk
Anyway, I'm interested if anyone gets a different feeling from these performances of the same aria.

[edit: and if this is real he's better than Pav: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-I25x_7qbtc]

Re: What music do you prefer?
This may be a treat for any Guns N' Roses fan, or a great introduction to those unfamiliar. I've never seen anyone put so much effort into singing a song. The clip is a live performance of the song "Coma", which the band only performed live a handful of times due to it's complexity.

Anything.
But to pinpoint. Rock. Any type of rock.
To pinpoint further. Metal.
Lately I've been playing a selective choice of bands. (Korn, deftones, depeche mode, cold,...)
