Pornography? Are they trying to destroy the Internet entirely?

Australia is suffering by being too close to China.

The hell with those Aussies! I'm all for it... this crap about "dangerous thinkers" has gone on long enough! No wonder the kids are running wild in the streets with new-fangled ideas of empowerment, what with all the QueeRS (QRS) ideas that "absolute" is what [it] is all about.

I don't want North Americans to have this "poison" that you can be what you want to be (a sage), much less a philosopher hitting our shores. More censorship is, and will be, the rule of the day.

I'll be writing my congressman demanding that no Australian EVER be allowed to set foot on the sacred ground of North America ever again. No more Have You Never Been Mellow? - Olivia Newton-John, Crocodile Wrestlers, Bee Gees & AC/DC. That means that Ruppert Murdoch will be sent back in shackles/chains to the rural confines of Tasmania... where he can eke out an existence with the introduced species of European Red Fox, and be hunted down like the Aborigine were and still are.

The Brits were Right-On! when this sordid lot were exiled to the vast wastelands in the middle of nowhere.

And this goes for any jewish/hebrew-sounding names like David, Daniel etc. However, white anglo/saxon (all-american) names such as Sue and Kevin will be permitted an occasional visit provided they be screened for any racist tendencies and hantavirus...

BTW - all will be innoculated with the anthrax shot.

Elizabeth will be the final arbiter in these worldly matters.

oh did i just mention our gov is going fascist? It's also going global...expect more and more of this. i've also seen articles in major rags about the need to get rid of internet anonymity, because some people are just so rude on the net!

while using one's own name is praised here, by those who (think they) have nothing (yet) to hide, it would pretty much destroy discussion forums like this one. i, for example, have a job, and i have coworkers and bosses and potential bosses who would no doubt never hire me, or would fire me, or hate me, if they knew what sorts of things i really think about and discuss. that's the real reason i don't use my name any more - just google your name and let your potential boss see everything you've ever said. (why bother with a job interview?) your kids friends, too, could read it. basically, it means that anything you would say to a close friend or a very particular group is open to the entire world. that might work for kevin, dave and dan, but not for very many others.

getting rid of anonymity might be a much gentler way of killing the amazing power of the net.

Which power is probably our only hope

Some real strong points there Iolaus.
Getting rid of anonymity would I think really decrease the level of honesty on the net.

known identity would also eliminate spam and trolls. I'm 68 now, but never got far in the corporate culture, and I dont see that any boss I ever had gave a fuck what I thot. Part of the insanity of the age, a kind of split personality, where you are one thing in the privacy of your own home, another with kin, a third at work, a 4th at sporting events, and eventually, you dunno who the fuck you are anymore.

As for censorship, dont sweat it. Geeks run the networks, and know how to crack the system.
