That's good - thank you. It is difficult to keep track of which candidate believes in what, or even (at this stage) who is running other than the media's favorites.

I get Ron Paul at the very top. Hard to believe, since he is a Republican, and I pretty much hate Republicans.

I also got Ron Paul first, all my answers matched his. I've read up on him a bit, he's by far the best candidate IMO. I think most smart people will get him first, he is very intelligent and principled, whereas the other candidates just want to preserve the status quo. Although he's republican, he is first and foremost a Libertarian. A few minor flaws, such as his anti-abortion stance, but overall he is a dream candidate.

I'll be voting for Paul in the primary because I think the Republican party needs to be reformed, but I'll definitely be voting for a Democrat in the election. I think Kucinich is actually a lot better than Paul, but I don't think he has a chance of winning.

Shahrazad: He's one of the last remaining true conservatives remaining in the Republican party--he is for limited government and always votes according to the Constitution.

The Republican Party, as it stands today, is an offence to the principles it was founded upon--most people have never known a true Republican.

Nevermind the "nyynnynyy" answers. I say "nyah nyah" to the whole gallery of fools; they should all be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail.

There's no way at all I would ever trust a Republican.

The test is not a good indication of who I could vote for anyhow, since most of the questions are about issues I don't care about much.

(Your answers: nyynnnnynnyy )

1. Ron Paul - nynnnnnynnyy - 10
2. Dennis Kucinich - nyynnynyynyn - 6
3. Bill Richardson - nyynnyynnnny - 4
4. John Edwards - nyynnyynynny - 2
5. Barack Obama - nyynyyynynny - 0
6. Hillary Clinton - nyynyyynynny - 0
7. Mike Huckabee - yynyynynnyny - -4
8. Mitt Romney - yynyynynnyny - -4
9. Rudy Giuliani - ynnnyyyynyny - -4
10. John McCain - yynyyyynnyny - -6

The ranking isn't necessarily weighted the way you might want. For example, Ron Paul came up at the top of mine as well, but he said no on increasing efforts to combat global warming - which is a biggie on my priority list; then again, it looks like he's the only one saying no to more spending on foreign aid - which is another big one to me. Number 5 was an unfair combination question, so IMO that should be thrown out (I think lawsuits should be less common, but not capped - so neither pure yes nor pure no worked).

Look at the individual answers. I know that cramming all those ys and ns together like that makes it hard to read, but it's important.

Yeah, the survey is not very detailed and a lot of important questions are not included. However, I see its purpose as getting people to think a bit.

Interesting--why couldn't you ever trust a Republican?

Because they love taking the USA to war, and are prone to want to solve all problems through military action of some kind.

Yeah, you're pretty much bang on about Republicans. But, what about the exception of Ron Paul? He has consistently voted against the Iraq war.

Was he in congress in December 1989? Because afaik, the only congressman who stood up and said the Panama invasion was wrong was Charlie Rangel. I would love to be proved wrong on this one.

I guess I don't really trust many Democrats either. But I do trust some.

Was he in congress in December 1989?

Just checked out his biography @ http://www.house.gov/paul/bio.shtml -- here's what it says:
In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice. Dr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th Congressional district of Texas.

Hodges: From my research, Ron Paul is by far the most knowledgeable candidate on economics. I read his book Gold, Peace, and Prosperity (available free @ http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/books.php)--I found it to be a real solid introduction to free-market economics for a layman like me.
He is also the most principled politician I've ever come across--he always votes according to the Constitution.

The next best candidate that I've seen is Dennis Kucinich.

Was just reading Time magazine, about what religious influences would influence a US voter.
lol, 46% said if they knew the candidate was Muslim it would influence their vote negatively, while 59% said if the candidate was an atheist it would influence their vote negatively. So in US politics it is better (or less worse) to be a Muslim than an atheist.

Mike Gravel isn't even on the poll? Typical. Look him up on Google or YouTube and prepare to be amazed. There is another Ron Paul, and he isn't a Republican with dangerous right-wing economic policies. I don't like Gravel's tax plan, but everything else is in order.

Do people honestly still believe it makes the slightest difference whose in the chair, it's the same machine, with the same cult running it all. No matter who you vote for the system wins. Plato - "it's better that the wise rule unwillingly, then those who want power get it." As long as a few have the power corruption is the course.

Vote for someone whose definition of freedom that doesn't include imprisonment of people who don't agree with them, or notions that something so much as a substance can be criminal. Such things as poverty could be abolished through economic purity. School could be made to encourage the passion to learn we all have somewhere. Enforced teaching of that which is un-stimulating/engaging to a student is detrimental to learning. Given there own time, people eventually figure out what they need to know to get what they want. Give things space and they find a place, confine them and they'll flounder. Since your vote is suppose to be how you make a difference, why not discuss actions and causes that will actually have an effect. NO MATTER WHO YOU VOTE FOR THE SYSTEM WINS! I couldn't care less whose in power, but a care a great deal what they do with it. I want drugs legal, all of them, because prohibition creates the gaps so many fall through. I want every Government action and discussion to be public, if it's private there's something their ashamed of or afraid of. I want wealth evenly distributed fairly. I want community. I want culture. I want collaborative spirituality, not denominated religion. I want the truth about everything, and nothing but. If you want another hand picked candidate with a crew telling him what to do, then let the next president be from a standing party, with tons of corporate support.

The US has been systematically revoking freedoms as long as they could, these revoked freedoms have been forced on other countries too, and more by the day. You could argue you have freedom, but tell me how free you feel after you've been in jail for years with no conviction, or when you get a fine for being on a beach at night. Despite large amounts of exposed cases of fraud in almost every level of Government people cling to some tragic loyalty in a system that has every intent on milking this planet for everything it's worth. Here's were things actually get extremely serious, if things continue in this direction, were either gonna run our of resources, or natural forces will run out of tolerance. If we don't kill our selves, I hope nature kills us before we kill everything. The corrupt economic systems that give power by patence over the structure's that delude us to dependence, and stripe us of the most basic of freedoms. A few very powerful people have decided if they don't conquer the world, someone else is gonna do it, better my wraith then his, trouble is one of them gets away with it and still manages to some how maintain face against all laws of reason and logic. People either won't believe the truth of the matter, or they simply don't realize how fragile these structures are. It's the people it surfers that give it it's power. There's alternative methods for everything, we have thousands of years of culture to build off, so what are we doing here. Wake up people.

Whats his drug policy?
whats his economic vision?
how is he gonna make the education system more then somewhere to learn about what you don't care about so you can forget it and get a job doing something completely unrelated and never sue what you spent years learning?
Is he gonna cleanse the media of prejudice and fear tactics, so people can go about there lives in logic rather then concern.
How does he plan to eliminate poverty and make cities as beautiful as the nature they were built on?
What does he plan to do about corrupt corporation's buying everything out and doing as they wish?

Who should you vote for 2008 U.S. President?

Shahrazad
Who should I vote for? Who should you vote for?? Who should we vote for?

Let me ask YOU a question. Why do you think so many people choose not to vote at all? Why do you think most adult Americans don't vote?
Should I answer for you?
Ans: Because something is irreparably d'matter with it all, and these more enlightened neighbors of yours are trying to correct the matter, initially by not playing the game anymore, next by serving as an example for you and others and eventually sparking more players into leaving the field until such time as there are far too few players to playball at all, causing finally the game to be called off. But people like you, it seems, are delaying this essential process by not realizing the ship is sinking and going to sink and there is nothing - short of getting another boat or creating a new game with better rules - you or anybody can do about it.
So quit it already, and quit it with the meaningless voting addiction, lets postpone tradition for a period and get to the urgent matter of national surgery. Perhaps then our grand-children may thank us rather than curse us, miss us rather than turn our grave sites into condominiums.

keenobserver: Yeah, I can understand why most Americans are so apathetic about voting. I think it's because there is usually just a heap of bad candidates--no one that resonates with their viewpoints. But that pretty generous--I'm not sure if the average American even has a formulated viewpoint on the specific political issues.

If Ron Paul didn't have a solid chance of winning I probably wouldn't be interested in the election at all.
Right now Paul is looking really good to win the Republican 2008 candidacy as he is the only candidate who is against the war.
So, he's pretty likely to get all the votes from Republicans who are against the war. And the others will split the pro-war votes.

keenobserver, I would be sympathetic to your view of not playing the voting game if there were no candidates worth voting for. But I think Ron Paul is a genuinely good candidate and warrants our votes. I think he understands pretty well how corrupted the system is and I believe he would work on the root of the problem (the FED).

Also, you have to consider what would happen if the game stopped, would it turn out better or worse? IMO, the american system of government that the founding fathers created is excellent, but it has been subverted by powerful interests - which leaves us with the mess we have today. There is alot of work to be done, but I don't think the system is irreparable. A vote for Paul is better than no vote at all.

I guess for 16 years now I have sworn off on voting for any democrate or any republican. I have voted for nader, the green party, the idependent, the natural law and that goofball billionaire from texas. But this time I am going to be probably the only and the first member of my entire family who is not going to vote at all.

The whole thing is a sham and a scam; I refuse to participate in my own humiliation by going to the polls like a good little brainwashed comrade. I thought for a while that if only those lazy, disaffected voters would go ahead and throw away their votes and get a couple more parties into the system. They can buy two parties, but three and four and five gets a lot harder. However, I've given up on that. People just aren't wired that way, I guess.

Once I understood that not only is our system completely corrupt, totally bought and paid for, and that we never vote on what actually matters, just to name a few problems, but that Bush actually stole the election, probably twice, that took the last of the wind out of my sails. We're just another corrupt banana republic here in the USA.

So now I agree with Sherazad. It's time for a general strike. In fact, I think we need a real national strike - start on a Monday and nobody goes to work, nobody goes to school, and nobody buys anything. If the demands aren't met, go for Tuesday. Etc. No going anywhere, no demonstratios, no tear gas. Oh, and how about this - stop taking on anything that involves thepaying of interest! That one would require some real discipline - but that is the core of this whole thing. That's where they live.

As for Ron Paul and Kusinich, I'll look them up a bit more but if they're good they won't get on the ticket. If they get on the ticket they won't win. And if by some miracle they won, they would be assassinated. Besides, I heard Ron Paul would bomb Iran. Not sure if that's true, though.

Here we are talking on the internet like everything is fine, and my country is bombing the living shit out of Iraq, and using weapons of mass destruction on them (bombs designed to kill widely). The gulf war in 1991 was not a war, it was a massacre. If the death toll is like 40,000 on one side (and that's just soldiers), and a couple dozen on the other, does that qualify as a massacre?
Truth is a pathless land.

You're damn right it's not true. It's even a bizarre suggestion if you'd know his overall stance which never changed to this moment, which is that the US has no business in Iraq, let alone attacking Iran for anything that is, at most, Iran's concern for the realities on the ground at their neighbors, as their fate is linked (as part of the Shi'ite block).

Hey Iolaus: Compared to Paul, I think Dennis Kucinich is a real 2nd tier candidate. I just looked on the Issues his website and there is nothing at all about the Federal Reserve.

So with someone as disillusioned as yourself, I wouldn't recommend spending any time researching him--because, how can there be any great change in America if the root of the money structure is not altered?

Yes, umm, ya, so some of you believe this RP guy is talking straight, do you. well i havent seen him, usually i can tell quite a bit in short order, but nevertheless I dont think our system and nation could ever ellect an honest wise person as it now stands. If he's approaching popularity in the USA will then, you can pretty much write him/her off as decent presidents go.

The people are the problem you see, sucked in as they are to the feminine illusion. When enough people wise up then the 'revamping' has a chance, and will occur. The sooner the better. Its a terribly slow pace currently, we may just make a real mess of this planet if the pace doesnt pick up. And electing anyone will just delay improvement, voting and big voter turnout will just delay improvement. We are running out of time folks.
Got to get that voter turnout down down down asap.

It really is as simple as that. No point in me discussing it on and on and more and more.
ok.

Maybe there should be a kind of spread the word, grassroots movement - protest by not voting next November. Maybe we should start on election Monday - no school, no work, no buy and on Tuesday, no vote. And no loans at interest.
Truth is a pathless land.
