Can someone enlighten me about the "socialising" (that's what it looks like to me)? I don't mean to come down heavy. I simply don't understand it. Is it supposed to be about bonding, or a light-hearted and rapid exchange of ideas ? Is it taking the piss out of each other? Or "getting to know you"? Why do people do it?
I enjoy spontaneous, free-flowing discussion. It's a bit like downhill mountain-biking, where the bike becomes an extension of one's own movements. One can do it extremely well, when experienced and highly conscious --- so that one is not reacting and controlled by the flow, but rather always prepared, to act on the instant with a plan aligned with actuality.
(I like the thread topic, also. The more personality can be expressed, the more conscious of the movements of personality one can see.)

To Entertainment.
No idea. Do you mean, you pretend to be stupid, because that way you feel like you're not really stupid, and then you can have fun to avoid realising that you're really not all that bright?I think satire can work as a method to transmit truth if it successfully reveals stupidity in unique way, however sometimes my satire reveals stupidity unintentionally, you know what I mean Kelly?
Am I socialising? Why does one need to socialise? What does it mean to socialise?

Sentient beings need some other way to connect besides merely sharing unfeeling observations that they have shared a million times before. Lately I have been interested in other ways enlightened beings can relate besides merely repeating the same philosophical truths, and satirical humor is one possible avenue, although I have considered others.

It's true that Carl and I were bonding.
What's wrong with a little mindless, amorous, playful exchange?
All I have to say is......
'Brokeback Genius forum'
I'm Jake, and Carl, your Heath. (Jake is the guy on the left)
If you seen the movie, you'll understand.
These types here at G-forum have no compassion for amorous, free-riding souls like us.
Let's ride on outa here....

See Kelly, Mathis’s creative satirical presentation is hilarious stuff. It reveals a truth in a slightly new way, and that makes life interesting. It reminds me of this skit, I think you’re taking this masculine thing a little too far. Geese, I can’t believe I’m saying that to a woman.
One should have a balanced masculinity/femininity, and I suspect that a sophisticated humor is part of that, however from my own experience humor is highly experimental, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t.

No. If not for your clarification, it would have looked like you were being mean and nit-picking, not socializing. Because of your clarification, you merely look socially inept - therefore closer to seeking clarification than socializing.Kelly Jones wrote:Am I socialising?
Different people have different reasons to socialize. I'm not particularly into socializing myself because I don't particularly like unstructured, purposless (or low purpose) activities, but I socialize what little I do for purposes of understanding others, as Ryan pointed out - to understand hidden truths (by "random" interactions, sometimes it is discovered that one did not even know the question to ask, therefore could not have found the answer), for varied perspectives on things, and for reminders of things that might have been forgotten. It also serves as a way to untangle one's self from one's own thoughts. Kind of like how sometimes the computer has to be rebooted, sometimes the brain needs to disengage to be able to re-engage properly.Kelly Jones wrote: Why does one need to socialise?
Most people find pleasure in socializing, and if one has absolutly no pleasure in life, one might as well be dead. Even if one does not get emotional, one can recognize the tedium and ultimate uselessness of it all and find no reason to bother to do all the things that are required in order to live. Living wisely becomes an oxymoron.
Many people socialize because there is a basic desire to have a connection with others, and painful lonliness can result from not being connected - so they socialize to relieve the pain or meet the basic desire. Sufficient isolation will eventually make the lonliness go away, but certain skills go away as well. Any skill, including socializing or even just verbalizing one's thoughts, must be practiced or they will either not develop or atrophy with disuse.

I was using heath and Jake's tragic story as a metaphor for me and Carl's free-spirited, amorous nature. In the movie, the two hero's went up into the mountains to look after sheep. They were despised and oppressed by those dwelling below.

Actually, what I find so funny is imagining the look on Carl's face when he sees how this thread is moving along.
What did you get yourself into Carl! A little harmless bonding and fun tends to snowball into something that you now perhaps want nothing to do with!
Yikes.
That is the way with femininity.
Mathis is 'Brokeback mountain'
Climb at your own risk.
You might, as a result, find yourself converted to an emotional orientation that is quite enslaving.....you'll end up like Heath and Jake from the Brokeback mountain story.
Mathis will make you think twice about approving of his feminine ways!

So you see? My crudeness is just more refined than yours, that's all.

Speaking of femininity, what's with the changing of the avatars every day you "guys" ?
Above is unchanged - edit added below:
Actually Aaron, I think that's your third avatar just today... so far.

Different context. This is more like how teenage girls tend to change outfits so often just for a different look.Ryan Rudolph wrote:Elizabeth wrote:

Maybe that would float if the avatar just changed with the text you were writing, but when you change your avatar, the picture changes with all the text you have ever written.Ryan Rudolph wrote:The images are being changed in contrast with the emerging text to provide that extra visual stimulus to drive the meaning home.

To Elizabeth,
Ah, but you only get that feel if you go back and read all my previous posts in the same day that you read my present post.Maybe that would float if the avatar just changed with the text you were writing, but when you change your avatar, the picture changes with all the text you have ever written.
No! what I’m providing is more like some written text with a visual image to accompany it.What you are providing is more like a documentary sound track with a cartoon video.
