I heard Charles Murray on Radio National on the weekend talking about his new book, The Inequality Taboo. He explains it in this article:

The Inequality Taboo
A bunch of academic wankery, nothing more.
Is this the level you are on kjones? You are far too earnest for your own good.
"some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe." - Lex Luthor

I don't think so. Yes, Murray is getting his book sold via challenging the theological tenet that women are as capable as men in accomplishing great things in philosophy, maths, and the sciences. Also, he displays cowardice by deliberately toning down his conclusions by saying giving birth is a great accomplishment. Nevertheless, he is publicly stating what is usually kept behind doors. So he gets credit for that.
He does make fun of academics, you know. Take this, for instance:
Much technical literature documents the hormonal basis of personality differences that bear on sex differences in extreme and venturesome effort, and hence in extremes of accomplishment—and that bear as well on the male propensity to produce an overwhelming proportion of the world’s crime and approximately 100 percent of its wars. But this is just one more of the ways in which science is demonstrating that men and women are really and truly different, a fact so obvious that only intellectuals could ever have thought otherwise.
It's good to tell the truth. Any other level is untruth. Is this the level you are on kjones? You are far too earnest for your own good.
Murray's wrapper shows that unlocking the secrets of the universe is the realm of extreme venturing. That this is always masculine is a key. Why would you ignore investigating this?"some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story.
