Meditation in the Way of a seeker of 'Dhamma'

Post by Bradley West »

IS BUDDHISM THE ‘WORD OF SIDDHARTHA’?

‘MEDITATION’ IN THE ‘WAY OF A SEEKER’. By Paul Hess

‘You are the manifestation of your ‘Chitta’

When we delve into the subject of meditation the first impression that comes to our mind is the body posture commonly associated with it viz. sitting and walking. In fact, they were the only methods existed and practiced by ascetics, men of religions, yogis and mystics at the time of Siddhartha in India and it continues to occupy a pride of place in all religions including Buddhism to this day. It is based on the blind belief the brain an organ of the body a product of creation is the source of ‘Chitta’. Hence the presumption, a tranquil body is the precursor to a tranquil mind. Therefore, the strategy obviously is to silence the body to silence the brain. Thus, the body posture along with a suitable location to calm the senses became the basic requirement for meditation. What in fact is achieved through this method is auto-hypnotism a self-deception that has no relevance to a seeker of his Dhamma the source of his unique ‘Chitta’ his elusive creator the inherent nature of which is duality. Therefore the so-called ‘one-pointed Chitta’ some claimed to have experienced is an illusion.

In India, one could still find yogis sitting or lying motionless for days on end blissfully unaware, the core of the problem is not the body or the brain but the ‘Chitta’ the source of which is the cosmic law the Dhamma that creates the illusion of ‘I’ which continues to react to the conditions unbeknown to the so-called meditator who in reality is in a state similar to hibernating bears. However, it was Siddhartha who discovered that the only way out of this dualistic ‘Chitta’ is to neutralize its creator the ‘Dhamma’. The creator creates no more.

Siddhartha as a seeker mastered all methods of meditation such as Jhana, vipassana, metta, etc. before realizing none of them had any bearing on the ‘Way’ he was seeking. Therefore, he realized the only method to experience the process of ‘Chitta’ the creator of ‘self’ is within by being mindful every moment to guide same on the ‘Middle Way’ with the ‘Mental Factor’ the concomitance Sils, Samadhi, Wisdom to neutralize it. The ‘Renunciation’ of ‘mind and matter’. Meditation centers, monasteries, temples, teachers, preachers, sacred books are the bane of a seeker. He knows his ‘Chitta’ reveals itself only to him but to no other hence he alone must seek it.

Siddhartha sought his ‘Middle Way’ to go beyond his world and urged the seeker to seek his own. If you fail, your misfortune is someone else’s fortune. The holy men and meditation masters are eagerly awaiting to welcome you with open arms promising a ‘way out of suffering’ where suffering and bliss are inseparable. Your ignorance is a blessing to them.

“The greatest conquest of them all is the conquest of ‘Dhamma’
the creator of self.” - Siddhartha.
