These are not poems, but sayings.

I am no poet.

The words I write will always be plain, and even boring. The thoughts I think, however, will perhaps be stimulating, and even inspiring. For some of you, they will be the redhot thoughts which burn, shock, and awaken you. Yet for others, they will be merely the lukewarm thoughts of a wanna-be monk. Ultimately, though, I did not think any of these thoughts, nor will you read any of them. There is only one universe and it is doing it all.

Therefore I cannot take credit, and you are free to mangle the words and strangle their meaning. You are, of course, also free to cast away your presumptuousness, and try to actually understand. This will require serious effort on your part, without taking your serious effort seriously.

Become Whole
It is the whole,

Oh Yes
Yes, I have attained the intellectual certainty of the Eternal,
oh, but to attain oneness with it,
verily, I must now attain the emotional conviction;
Yes, I have attained the evolution of the mind,
oh, but to attain the palingenesis of the soul,
verily, I must now attain the metamorphosis of the heart;
Yes, I have attained knowledge that I am dreaming,

True, true,
rare is the man
with an original idea...

Liar
Many men today
focus far too much
on the ruthlessness
of men in power
and far, far too little
on the truthlessness
... in themselves

Beyond
Oh the fool,
over this world,
he wishes to rule.
Ah the wise,
above this world,
he wishes to rise!

Genius
Society is like a giant glass
that men are trapped in
Ordinary Men stay at bottom,
watching in awe, jealousy, or horror,
as Talented Men jump ever so high,
reaching lofty heights
in science, engineering, music, warfare, industry,
any worldly success
But I ask you, my friend:
do you watch the Genius Men,
those rare few who jump so high,
that they jump right out of the glass,
and thus become free?

Entertainment or Enlightenment?
"Seek, and ye shall find;
but those things concerning which
ye asked me in those days,
I did not tell you then
Now I wish to tell them,
and ye seek not after them"
The fool wants wisdom,
but only the kind
that is 'interesting' or 'entertaining' to him,
only the kind
that is readily understandable to him,
and only at a time convenient for him

How Rude
Boredom is the highest insult to oneself,
for one is always with oneself,
so if one is bored,
then one is bored with oneself

To Be Fair
It is not fair to say that most women are gold diggers:
most are gold catchers, for most men willingly toss their coins at them!

Lacking
A wise woman may be rarer than a wise man,
but a foolish man is more common than a foolish woman

Wanting
If a woman truly respects & loves a man,
she must encourage him to become,
to the best of his ability, a good man
It is good men, not thinking men,
that are wanting in this world;
it is bravery, not brilliance,
that is wanting in this world
If a man truly respects & loves a woman,
he must encourage her to become,
to the best of her ability, an independent thinker
It is thinking women, not good women,
that are wanting in this world;
it is justice, not charity,
that is wanting in this world

Inappropriate
Most Christians
focus far too much
on the birth and death of Jesus
and far too little
on the life and teachings of

Commandment
Never lose your temper and obsess over
the unfavorableness of situations
or the unreasonableness of others

First Things First!
Most people suffer
in very predictable ways
at very predictable times:
the mid-life crises at forty,
agonizing reflection at fifty,
then the torment of approaching death
My friends...
do you really want to be
that mediocre?
That boring?
That predictable?
Of course you don't
So do your suffering,
your searching,
right now
There is no time to waste!
Seek first the kingdom!

Great Poets
It is amazing how
mere words
from a good poet
can make you experience
life's true feelings
But even more amazing still
is how mere words
from a great poet
can make you understand
life's true meaning

Anyway
Knowing well
that his words will be
misinterpreted,
misunderstood,
and misused,
the sage laughs
and writes them anyway

Welcome!
Welcome, my dearest friend,
to the Realms of the Warring Gods
Dare not the asuras
attack the suras
for they do not stand a chance
against such overwhelming odds
Mastery of matter,
mastery of mind,
only masters of power
in this realm you will find
But let us continue
onward now,
believe me when I say
that might and glory
quickly becomes
a rather old story
For all the bravery
and confidence
which does appear,
in reality
these suras are not strong,
but weak with fear
They are nothing more
than destroyers of mankind
Professors obfuscate truth
and confiscate the mind,
politicians exploit youth
and manipulate the kind
Priests are the worst --
no real goodness
in them you will find
Teachers, leaders
and all-knowing guides --
the suras? Ha!
How you make me laugh --
it hurts at my sides
Onward now,
onward I say,
to the Realms of the Deva
we shall go.....

I Mean Come On
The belief
that one is their body
is just as superstitious
as the belief
that ghosts are haunting epileptics

Rulers
Kings rule men,
philosophers rule man
The wise rule many,
the enlightened rule all

There
Song becomes noise,
noise becomes song
Strength becomes gentle,
gentle becomes strong
Wrong-doings become all right,
right-doings become all wrong
Plunged!
... into a sea of chaos
Hurled!
... into a void of destruction
Most will drown
and become no more
Few will make it
to that other shore --
those who make it
are not they who
have strong mind in store,

Self
The superstition of our age
is not that God exists,
but that we exist

Lifeless
To the genius,
most persons
are basically
brain dead
They can execute
some complex tasks,
such as transplanting organs,
or winning elections,
or penning treatises on metaphysics,
but that merely means they are
highly functional robots.
As persons,
they are oblivious,
unaware

Beware
In this age especially,
whenever you see someone,
not merely pointing out
as to enlighten,
but outright bemoaning
with righteous exasperation,
haughty laughter,
or a depressed sigh,
the ignorant and herd nature
of the common man,
you see before you...
a common man

Herds
Men, in small groups, are not so easily controlled
Often the most brutal force is required to scare them into senseless action
But men, in large herds, are so very easily controlled
Too often the most simply lie is all that is required to scare them into suicidal action

Tri
Just as there are
the musicians,
the conductors,
and the composers,
so too are there
the ruled,
the rulers,
and the philosophers

Yoga
When first setting out on the jnanayoga path,
one often feels superior to those on the karmayoga path
and especially to those on the bhaktiyoga path,
but when finally reaching the end of the jnanayoga path
(when having absolute knowledge of the ultimate nature of reality),
one finds he now has much to learn
from those formerly considered inferiors
for while he has perfect thinking of god,
he is still very imperfect in living for god

Reminds me of this old Beatnik hangout (the wife and I would frequent) in the San Francisco Bay area in the mid 1970s. Mind you, that movement was before our time but old habits die hard. We'd stroll into this place (which is no longer there) and snap our fingers to the 'bizarre music' and listen to the oldtimers 'spout wise' (more snapping).

Well before internet so it's difficult to track what became of some of those people. Like everybody else I guess they get old and die. We have a house (we rent out long-term) with a guest cottage so we still make it out there now and then.

Ha, we could walk down the street and pass by some old people and never put together they were once (a part of something called) "a movement".

Perhaps nursing homes are where they hang, now.
