the dualistic mind revisited

Post by Ryan Rudolph »

There are simple dualistic relationships such as the interconnectedness between ‘pleasure and pain’

But what about this one?

Descartes stated: “I think therefore I am”

Isn’t this the same as saying “I believe that there is an actual “I” consciousness that thinks, therefore I exist”

Isn’t this the ego justifying its own continuity?

If all intellectual activity is ultimately caused then there no actual thinker that chooses to think in the first place.

This statement by Descartes seems to be an example of delusion, but perhaps I have misinterpreted it...

what thoughts/response is this going to cause in you?

How Descartes intended it, yes. "I think therefore I think..."

I agree that this statement is an example of delusion, and don't think you have misinterpreted it.
