Academic vs philosophic lifestyle

Post by SBN Charles »

The way.

Question: is living a life of truth a form of academia, you think and study your thoughts, you study and think.

Is not living a life of truth an academic one, you have to study so often your thoughts, and then you study philosophy and that aids in powering trains of thought.

An academic choses a topic to study, thinks about it, studies it and thinks about it some more, is truth another topic of study? like biology or math?

Someone who studies biology at university could go on to get a career in an area of biology for example, if you study philosophy and truth, at home or wherever a life style goes with it, but not a career.

Do people who live a life of truth live poor lives, they dont have much money because there are no careers in truth.

Unless someone is willing to pay you good money to lead a life of truth, or unless you manage to gain a large income via chance (i.e. win the lottery, gain an inheritance, etc), you are going to be poor. Simple as that.

Being poor is not so bad. At the very least, it gives you far fewer money concerns.

The main difference between the philosopher of wisdom and the academic is that the philosopher of wisdom doesn't have to pander to other academics, which he means he doesn't have to worry about things like reputation, social status, rules and conventions. He can allow his thought to roam as deeply as it likes, and his truthfulness to be as offensive as he likes - which really opens up his mental development.

The other difference (which is maybe only a broadening of the point) is that the true thinker doesn't have a lifestyle that may be inconsistent or in conflict with the truths uncovered; he has less baggage to protect. Therefore, he is far more likely to be able to incorporate those truths into the entirety of his consciousness, rather than compartmentalise them. He is less subject to the scourge of dissonance.

He also isn't bound by any notions of history.

Academic lifestyle nowadays suffered from what euphemistically called "publish or perish" syndrome. The syndrome led to publication of so many papers and journals.
In philosophy, the prevailing syndrome has created many.. many boring books or papers.. full of quotations and references without anything profound like many writings i found on thinking man's minefield
