Re: Spreading wisdom on the web

To my mind, the very title "Thinking Man's Minefield" packs all the imagery I needed. When I first came across Kevin's webpage, it reminded me of a chance find of an ancient trove of wealth. It sounds corny, but I think revamping it would be a mistake. Those who are seeking truth aren't se...

Re: Your Logic Efficiency

Elizabeth,

Money has nothing to do with philosophy, just as emotions have nothing to do with logic.

In making this distinction, I think it would serve this discussion well if you would define your idea of faith in this context for us.

Re: Faith

I think faith is nothing more than a declaration of belief, nothing more than a statement. The majority of those who claim to have faith are no different to those who don't have faith if they but remained silent.

Yeah, I haven't yet found a single person I would put on an 'ignore' list- at least not one I wouldn't first sue the mods for bannination.

Re: New forum software

Dan, there was also a 'Google [bot]' logged in before. My guess is that it's a data miner looking for e-mail addresses or some other type of spam bot. The new forum might not thwart these types of things, or the updated software attracted them. Oh yeah, and Majestic 12 was supposedly a board of auth...

Also, if you're using Firefox, a quick way to enlarge text size on a webpage is to press the 'Alt' key and the '=' key. To reduce font size, press 'Alt' key and the '-' key. Or, using your mouse go to the View menu, then text size, etc.

Iolaus, I believe you're speaking about the Azores, a volcanic chain of islands off the coast of Portugal/Spain. If half of the island in question were to slide into the ocean, the east coast of America would be subject to tsunamis towering up to and above 450 feet tall. Rhett, Elizabeth, The bigges...

Dan, I think it was when the Men at Work were overthrown by the Vegemitians, only to lose control to the zoo at Beerwah, although that was about 20 years later. All in all, a bloodless revolution, but to this day the majority of Australia is coated by a thin layer of butter and what is assumed to be...

Yeah, both shows are good. Although, that Bear Grylls is going to get a lot of lost amateurs killed if they try to employ the dangerous techniques he employs. He hardly explains how he does what he does, merely executing the motions for effect. Planet Earth was beautifully done, but even in there yo...

I got 18 out of 24 on Australia, but that quiz helped me along. You get three tries to click the correct region, and if you're wrong it still divulges the name of that territory. Admittedly, other than knowing Queensland (from the Crocodile Hunter) and Tasmania (from same) I wouldn't have a clue whi...

Thanks James,

What I meant to say is that in any given nature show, the violence of animal life is censored. They've taken the blood and guts out of nature.

Where has all the 'wild' gone?

Growing up, shows like 'Wild America' with Marty Stouffer were my favorite programs. Showcasing the wilderness and the creatures in their habitats, they sparked in me a deep and abiding love for all the things of Nature. In recent years, it seems that the PC movement has even corrupted these shows. ...

If I had to guess, you feel rejected by Kelly. From what I've read in her post she didn't divulge anything sensitive to my mind, maybe you would fare better if you just cut the whole ugly head off at the root.

Don't to try to convince people you're interested in metaphysics, merely to get them to sleep with you. Unfortunately, it actually works this way with women. They are attracted to the merest appearance of thought in men, because they lack even that. That's how I stole my first "love." I w...

Kelly, The whole book is called, "Kensho." It's a compilation of some short works by a Korean Zen Master named Chinlu if I recall correctly, some works by Hakuin, and a number of koans. Here's a link to amazon's listing of Kensho: Kensho The Heart of Zen It's a good book, a worthwhile read.

Kelly,

You can find it in Thomas Cleary's translation entitled "Kensho." It's where I found Hakuin's The Holes in the Lotus Threads. Although I think the translation you found was from a different collection. David might be able to help.

What about Rich Zubaty? Or Esther Vilar? I think they would make for some interesting discussions.
