I'm not criticising you for it. The ego works the same regardless of whether the desire is sexual, psychological, emotional, or biological. These spheres may appear to be different, but ultimately they all have the same conceptual basis. I didn't think you were criticising me (nor would or should I...

Man who walked on ice

the example of being aroused sexually by understanding a term and "getting on top of it" is clarified in the light of the ego's story in sex (how a self is trying to clarify thoughts). I don't actually get sexually aroused but the arousal is akin to that, the same way sexual imagery can a...

I had a funny experience working with a group of young girls in an office recently. The most egotistical, self-seeking of them was nearly impossible to understand, while the other two were easy. We had to share a lot of information as a team solving IT problems and the worst problem was comprehendin...

I gotta say I struggle with a lot of stuff you say Kelly. I mean there is a clarity issue - you just have to point to what you're saying more simply and not dress it so much. I know I'm not the only one here either who finds it trying to understand what you're on about.

I don't dispute your accounts of older people's mindsets, I only point to crash statistics showing the majority of reckless car accidents occur in the 18-25 year age group. Maybe the older drivers are experienced enough to be able to drive recklessly without crashing so much!

It's also partly an intelligence factor. Older drivers would probably be smarter on average and thus less likely to take unnecessary risks. Younger drivers, being less mature, would not think about such matters as discriminatively on average. More mature usually equals more thoughtful though not alw...

On a slightly different topic, I read somewhere recently that we never hear the phrase the "Battle of the Sexes" anymore. That's true. Several years ago it used to be used all the time on game shows, in newspapers, everywhere. The guy who mentioned this said it's because it's no longer jus...

Suffering over a girlfriend is a luxury my friend. You can always shake a girlfriend, but there are plenty of other things you can't quite so simply. I've probably felt occasional "pain" over a girl for a few days or weeks but that's about all. Its a real high when you get over them, espec...

The answer is: someone impatient, someone trying to escape their thoughts, and someone who allows their egotism to destroy indiscriminately. This hasn't got anything to do with age! Those people who have those qualities, and use driving a car fast to express or deal with them, tend to be young (sta...

It's very common among Jews and the like-minded to make off-the-cuff, highly flippant remarks about Nazi Germany, when they have no interest in the dynamics behind it. It's a way of off-loading any doubt or guilt they might have about whether that era had any merit, because they know at some deeper ...

Imagine you have a daughter (representing oil, or the Iraqi people) living in a house and dominated by an insane man (Saddam), who claims to have terrible weapons to torture and kill her, and he has a long criminal record and there is some evidence that his claims are correct. It is understandable ...

Mythbusting the Messiah: Cruci-fiction and walking on ice?

Image of Jesus' crucifixion 'may be wrong' From: Agence France-Presse By Richard Ingham in Paris March 30, 2006 THE image of the crucifixion, one of the most powerful emblems of Christianity, may be quite erroneous, according to a British study which says there is no evidence to prove Jesus was cru...

You could say there are all kinds of delusions and people fall under some combination of them no matter who they are, except an "Enlightened One". Those who exude wisdom or ability in one area usually have some other trait that their admirers would retch at.

I think sex appeal is what makes anything work. I sell these digitised German-English dictionaries from the early 1900s at http://www.dvdictionary.com . The only thing that makes them work is the feeling you get after reading one of their entries. It's like you really understand the term and are on ...

when challenged fundamentaly with facts or reason, they have suddenly various excuses to leave the discussion instantly. It's like having your cake and eating it too. Women are the most natural philosophers on earth. On a worldly level, yes, as I said before. On profound truths outside the worldly or everyday sphere, I don't see much interest from them in that, or there would be more evidence. Knowing how to get on in the world isn't truth or enlightenment/freed...

I think that's what gives women power on a worldly level. They don't know the "big truths" but they don't care, while men kind of do, at least a bit (even, in fact quite often, criminal types). So on a worldly level women seem freer, but worldliness isn't the only thing worth having. It wa...

It doesn't make sense when you realise that without nukes, there's nothing to stop the US from successfully invading them. If the US want to attack Iran unprovoked (or on intelligence that they currently or will imminently possess nuclear weapons) no-one cares. A precedent for pre-emptive invasion and occupation has been set with Iraq. But if Iran wants to defend itself against that imperialism, the world complains, and...

They seem happy "bopping" (as it was called) to ghetto blasters at the bus stop, being violent occasionally if they're in a gang, and for the milder ones, just smiling a lot and enjoying life without worries. Our driver, Taju (who was as Muslim with two wives) had a great disposition. That...
