Re: talk is cheap
Sapius; I think of wisdom and compassion like temperature. Things may be hotter or colder than other things, but all things have temperature. All human beings possess wisdom and compassion, but some actions are wiser and more kind than others. Ah! I see; but 'more' makes no sense without 'less' aro...

No, Dan. No matter where you are in your life, in the beginning, the middle, near the peak, at the peak, or after the peak, your conduct is the direct expression and manifestation of your wisdom and compassion.

Embodying Wisdom and Compassion "How to make our lives an embodiment of wisdom and compassion is the greatest challenge spiritual seekers face. The truths we have come to understand need to find their visible expression in our lives. Our every thought, word, or action holds the possibility of b...

In the meantime I'll posit that perhaps reality just doesn't conform to our ideas of natural logic. Perhaps? See "Beauty and truth in physics", a talk by Murray Gell-Mann, who said, You don’t need something more in order to get something more. see: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/vie...

Re: Genius Rules
There are still quantum leaps between various kinds of consciousness. For example, the difference between human consciousness and slug consciousness is immense, owing to our abstract abilities, highly structured thought-patterns and self-awareness. David; That may be, but that slug consciousness is...

Re: Genius Rules
Shahrazad;
I have heard that or a similar argument presented that all things are conscious because all things react to other things. The only issue I have with such a view is that it make the term "consciousness" empty of utility as it no longer differentiates between things.

Re: Genius Rules
As for simple life-forms responding to their immediate environment, we can't really call their responses "awareness" or "knowing", just as we can't say that a thermometer detecting changes in temperature is aware or knowing. In these instances, simple cause and effect processes ...

Re: To David Quinn: two worries
So, please, share a few of your enlightened thoughts on death, thoughts that the unenlightened would not be capable of understanding on their own. Did you read the section on reincarnation like I suggested? It would seem not. Yes, I did and it seemed even less impressive. Shall I post that section ...

Cory; Thank you for posting those excerpts. Those quotes seem somewhat more balanced than the posts Q has made here. Here is has written, We only ever experience the constructs. So, even though he talks of "brain" and "senses", he only 'knows' of those as "constructs" o...

What empirical evidence? There is, by your argument, no empirical evidence outside your consciousness. Your are trapped within your own mind.

Re: To David Quinn: two worries
Where is your "Poison for the Heart"? Type it into google and you'll find it. Kevin; I was disappointed. Nothing new. Nothing profound. Here is the section on Death: DEATH The fear of death We people are not death-denying, but truth-denying. Death is the ultimate escape from suffering, so...

Re: To David Quinn: two worries

Re: To David Quinn: two worries
Let's take an example word, to illustrate the point: the word "death". Generally speaking, an unenlightened person will understand this to mean something like the physical and mental cessation of a person. So does the enlightened person. But the enlightened person understands so much more...

Re: Genius Rules
David; I was recently reminded of a period in my life when I practiced some simple techniques that lead to lucid dreaming (being conscious of dreaming). My experience was that 'dream people' give a semblance of being people, but when closely examined do NOT appear/behave as actual people; i.e., you ...

Kevin; Actually, what you said was that you were uncertain ("Not for sure.") if other people exist, which makes communication for YOU uncertain as you don't know if I or anyone else really exists. I don't think you really believe that you are alone, but maybe you can convince me : )
