Re: Despair

Cory, Generally, we have an instinct toward hopes related to friendship, romance, career, etc. Hope and aspiration is a very powerful drive, and most of us are unconscious of the despair that is always lurking beneath the surface. Few have the courage to let their worldly life pass them by and explo...

Re: Confident people...How or Why?

Being of 1, The problem people have with evolution is that it is very difficult for the human mind to imagine a series of millions of small changes that lead to higher complexity. What I like about the theory of evolution is that it explains how organisms NATURALLY diverge and change over time, with...

Re: Despair

People who do not learn from despair are those who are usually unwilling to face up to its true cause, whether it be a poorly thought out idea/hope/thought. 'thought' is designed to solve problems, to find security, meaning and purpose, but it often times creates solutions that do not match up with ...

Re: Confident people...How or Why?

God`s daughter, GodsDaughter says: I think man is good, the way God created him to be. God made man in his own image, he did not create imperfect, nor did he create perfect, he created good, therefore, if God created man in his own image, than that makes God only good and not perfect himself. That i...

Re: I know things spiritually as well as intuitively

God's Daughter, Here are a few comments just seeing if there are any holes in your 'confident' logic - When we all die, we will be assigned to a task, we may not like the task, but we'll be the head of it. Sounds depressing. A lot like modern capitalism. Are you sure you haven’t confused the next wo...

Re: I know things spiritually as well as intuitively

God's Daughter, Here is the problem with your AWARENESS counterargument - it is not logical. Awareness hinges on many things that are just not present in that stage of fetal development. To have awareness of anything, you need language, memory and some knowledge base of the world. A fetus wouldn't e...

Re: Confident people...How or Why?

I wouldn't use the bible as your only source of information. You need to read psychology, biology, and the sciences that offer explanations and observations of human behavior. Man is imperfect. That is a irrefutable fact. He is greedy, self-serving, petty and will cut his brother's throat for even t...

Re: I know things spiritually as well as intuitively

no one has memory from when they were inside the womb, remembering events from ones life doesn't occur until well into the toddler stage. It is governed by brain development.

I could comment on MANY other things there, but I just do not have the time.

Re: Confident people...How or Why?

But what are you confident about though? your ability to charm people, and adapt and rise to the top of an insane world. My point is that many confident people are the ones usually doing the most damage to the world because they are not doubtful and skeptical of their very nature, which is evil and ...

Re: Confident people...How or Why?

I suppose it all depends on what one is confident about. For instance: Hitler was incredibly confident, but the source of his confidence was delusion, false belief, and an egotistical assumption that he was chosen, protected and destined for great things. Belief in oneself is usually rooted in emoti...

Re: Transhumanism and Conflict.

Some # wrote, So... No change, then? no change in that sense. I think there will always be some degree of conflict in the world, and the degree of conflict is related to how significant the world changes. I used to be an idealist and believe the world peace is possible, but these days I'm not so sur...

Transhumanism and Conflict.

this is all just speculation and entertainment, but I think the subject is rather interesting. First of all, lets assume that humanity is heading into a period of accelerated technological growth, which may in fact change what it means to be human. It may change what it means to be human because tec...

Re: Osama, dead or alive

Any discussion is merely speculation. Although, the story seems rather odd. They shot him in the head, when he was unarmed, and they will not go into detail what threat he posed. One would think that if Obama had the opportunity to capture him, they would in fact take him alive to acquire as much in...

Re: Sam Harris: The Moral Landscape

In Sam Harris case and many others, no one addresses the subject of commitment. Committing to anything requires energy, sacrifice, and hard work, which must always be at the expense of doing something else. As you say Cory, focusing on making the world more capable of logical thought seems like a be...

Re: Sam Harris: The Moral Landscape

Bobo, If working is not already a submission to unconciousness. I think work is necessary for survival, unless you are a leech, dependent or drain on the system, which also has moral implications. The best one can do is find employment that doesn't totally rape the body and mind, and if you can't pe...

Re: Sam Harris: The Moral Landscape

Cory, When people act fully, from the inside, they bring out the extremes in everyone. How much heroic action and thought on the human condition did Hitler inspire? Everyone should act fully, the good and bad, and let nature play itself out. I have dabbled with this idea quite a bit as of late. Dabb...

Re: The Pot Calling the Kettle Black???

BM, Call it the 'shadow', but it's still the conditioned 'self', the cowardly and security seeking 'self' that prevents a total cleansing. Along with the refusal to look reality squarely in the eye. But the individual needs security. And cognition is the only way one can get it. I think the individu...

Re: The Pot Calling the Kettle Black???

BM, This I too found this to be quite a challenge. And it's only in the last 6 years or so, as a result of being fully retired from all vocational entanglements with the human rat-race, that I no longer feel that I'm selling my soul to the world. Though for the past 30 years or so I progressively si...

Okay, I agree here, but you are missing my main point. You can become rational without the lead up of ‘transformative’ physical even...

BM, I've personally undergone such death and rebirth experiences very similar to U. G.'s. And other men whose lives I've thoroughly examined, most notably J. Krishnamurti, Osho, Gopi Krishna, and Eckhart Tolle, have all gone though such experiences too. And it remains my view that unless a man under...

I don't actually believe in an actual event as he describes that transforms the individual's consciousness. All I believe happens is that logical realiz...

Re: The Pot Calling the Kettle Black???

U.G's main weakness is that he often lacked a certain carefulness in how he spoke with people. And he didn't attempt to perfect his language or how his teaching came off to others. I think he had wisdom, but he didn't put much effort in its presentation, or filtering himself in how he dealt with peo...

I stand corrected, apparently artificial womb research is being done by a few scientists.

Interesting article:

This scientist has gotten quite far with an artificial mouse womb, not bad. At least we are up to mammals.
