Re: Eugenics

CB, Will you allow visitors to the island, Dr. Moreau? no, as you point out, humanity is too emotional to see its importance, they would judge perfecting the species genetically as playing god because that is exactly what it is. It comes down to whether you believe science should be used to transfor...

Re: Eugenics

The major hurtle for genetic advancement is the acceptance of raising a fetus outside the female body artificially. As far as I know, there isn't much research going into this area because it is so unpopular. Because its fine if we start discovering the genetic basis for many medical and mental diso...

Re: Apathy: Psychological Inertia

Animus, In reference to apathy, I think apathy results in a mind that has poorly defined values, a mind that isn't clear on what it believes is important, and so its motivation is haphazard, not focused and without direction. For instance: At least a capitalist materialist like Kevin O'leary knows w...

Re: On Women, by Artur Schopenhauer

Bluerap, Why would a rational man pair up with an irrational woman? There are many reasons for such a compromise, and there are degrees of irrationality and rationality with both men and women. I do not see it as either/or. It is more of a spectrum. The first is because survival is easier if one coo...

Re: On Women, by Artur Schopenhauer

If men truly understand the nature of attachments and women, I don't see a huge issue with coupled pair ups, especially if the man is rational enough to not allow a woman's unconsciousness to effect him. The problem of the human being at present is that most people do not have the biological wiring ...

Re: What blind spot to men have?

Men who value material success more than wisdom will abandon the natural masculine drive to create order and understand the world in a spiritual/moral context. Although, some men do not have any capacity for intellectual reflection or thought at all. It is as if their personality is fairly one-dimen...

Bob Michael, No matter how learned, brilliant, or insightful they may be; weak, cowardly, pap-smeared, celibate men haven't been, nor will they ever be, effectively instrumental in bringing the Light of love, truth, and understanding into our cold, dark, and decaying world. Re: The Life of Osho

Animus, I also suspect that the arrangement of marriage is not absolute 'evil' because one can essentially cause pathology upon themselves with the alternative if their biology isn't strong enough. Some individuals may have light conditioning, and can tolerate such a thing. However, possible attachm...

The Life of Osho

As a backdrop to this analysis, I would like include some of forum's posts on Osho over the years. Most of the quotes are from David Q, with the exception of one I think. Quotes: Very much so. People can gain a taste of enlightenment and turn away from it out of fear and loathing. Flawed gurus, such...

Mortgages and Inflation.

I've been trying to understand the relationship between inflation, interest rates and choosing the appropriate mortgage based on the economic conditions. Here is where I am presently on the issue. During recessions, the national banks tend to lower interest rates because inflation is low, and they a...

However, everyone's situation is going to be different, and some should supplement the lack of activity in their daily l...

Re: What part of the anatomy controls human Speed?

CB, Your body consists of cells that are breaking down (catabolism) and being replaced (anabolism). Together, they form the metabolism. Exercise consumes calories since it requires energy. However, exercise also causes catabolism to increase, especially weight training. So when I am not exercising, ...

Re: What part of the anatomy controls human Speed?

Donna, A person's speed in thought and action is a complicated subject. However, I think most of a person's physical agility is probably the result of a combination of a fast, efficient metabolism, combined with an athletic deposition. IE: strong cardiac heath, healthy bones, muscles, etc. Although,...

I think what is important to take away from many posters, and my own position is that if you die to life, meaning die to notions of an individual self, belief systems, delusions, and so on, then your being is metaphorically a sort of "walking death" And a being that is in a state of "...

What I didn't like about Satre, and many of the other European philosophers of that time period is that their language was often times too intentionally complicated, cryptic and lacking bluntness and insight. Although Sartre did have some original thoughts, I think he was trying too hard to fit into...

Trying to be comfortable with death.

I have attempted to find some peace with the reality of death, but sometimes the whole thing doesn't sit well with me. Logically, there seems to be two possibilities at death. Either there is a total extinction of the self, that is - if consciousness is totally dependent on the existence of a materi...

Here's another one: Humanity is a lot like a june bug. Re: The Evil of Charm

Carmel,

There is evil in every human mind, so it is quite easy to find. Its as common as beach sand actually...and that is what a true philosopher is interested in examining. Examining human nature will almost always result in some sort of evil being exposed, if one is truly honest with themselves.
