Re: "What makes a genius?" (documentary)
Good selection of quotes / aphorisms, Kelly. Here is a short essay on the aphorism by Don Paterson, a Scottish Poet and Jazz Musician. ____________________________________________________ The aphorism is a brief waste of time (2004) The aphorism has fallen so badly out of favour that even the word i...

Neitsche garners a lot of attention on this sight but rarely a mention of Sartre. Any ideas as to why this may be?

Yes, but that is anti-education in a very deep way. Higher education should be about more than getting your name printed on a faux scroll bit of paper, no?cousinbasil wrote: I thus learned an invaluable skill: how to bullshit. It is often all that is required of you.

Re: A Great Movie
Can't stand Tarantino's comic book / laddish approach to making films.
Pulp Fiction was funny and over the top, but its not any kind of reference for how to make a great movie.
Have you seen Import/Export, an excellent European movie from last year?

Any constructive thoughts on Ayn Rand's abilities as a Novelist, Philosopher, Character?

GREEK PHILOSOPHY - Joke
Keep this in mind the next time you are about to repeat a rumour or spread gossip. In ancient Greece (469 - 399 BC), Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom. One day an acquaintance ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about Diogenes?" Wait a moment...

Re: system of ethics based on realization of ultimate reality
By what could I compare it, in order to define it? Truth is everything, yet is only apparent to the rational person. If you need more information, reason is based on the certainty of identity. An expression of that certainty is "there is always something". . I don't get this at all. Seems...

How would you define 'the truth'?Kelly Jones wrote:[
No, one doesn't need to create a system of ethics. All one need do is value the truth, and let everything else follow.

Frankie Boyle
Strikes me that he has a certain masculine wisdom, or at the very least - a dark imagination. There are lots of clips to check out. Some of it may be lost in translation if you are not from the UK.

Re: A man Full of thought...
Thought is who man is, what man is, when man is, how man is and where man is. There is no point in man's awareness that he can "go" and cease being a being of thought. The Masters Jesus and the Buddha both realized man is always a thoughtbody, whether he "peers through the glass dark...

Re: Who Plays Chess Here?
I learned how to play chess when I was 22 years old, became good enough to beat my teacher. Chess is my all time favorite game, it is more than just a game, it is strategic. At one time I could think eight moves ahead while anticipating my opponents moves. My brother Dan got into a game of chess th...
