Re: Interesting Article on the "Tea Party" Movement
FYI I edited that statement you quoted me on there, although it doesn't change the sentiment. Anyways, whatever gimmicks michael steele and the republicans use to gain minority and women voters, whether it be choosing Sarah Palin for VP or picking some black guys to run for congress, does not change...

Re: Interesting Article on the "Tea Party" Movement
First things first. Unless this Gulf oil spill is stopped soon (in about 30-45 days), or it circles the globe, and in my opinion it will, it won't matter which party takes control of the House and Senate. What percentage of those tea partiers do you think were chanting "drill baby drill" ...

Interesting Article on the "Tea Party" Movement
"Dismiss the Tea Parties at Your Peril" is the title of an article that echoes some of the same concerns I have about this revitalized right wing movement and it's impact on the 2010 elections. In an off year such as this one, when voter turnout is usually low, they could have a big impac...

Re: Does Marijuana Alter Logic?
I think the high one gets from marijuana definitely has some philosophical usefulness, but kind of like what Dan said, only those who already have a philosophical predisposition will really benefit from it in the right kind of way. Personally I was a very heavy user of marijuana for 4 years straight...

Re: Socialized Psychopath Taking Questions
Conclusive evidence. If you're willing to let go of the false absolute that all us uncertain, you'll find that absolute truth is right in front of your eyes. I don't know. Obviously you think you know enough to tell me that what I said was a conjecture. Stop being a pussy and just be honest with yo...

Re: be real
I have got to say, add, that after perusing several posts herein it is clear to me that many, and quite probably all of you///stop.....better yet, perhaps-- that all of your egos have you believing that each are (to put it mildly).... far more advanced, enlightened, and wise than is actually the ca...

Re: Socialized Psychopath Taking Questions
I certainly don't see any hard evidence that everything in the universe can be described with the rules of logic. What do you mean by "hard evidence"? That's mere conjecture. Oh? Please, do tell me exactly what I'm overlooking. If reality doesn't operate on logical principles; does it ope...

Re: Socialized Psychopath Taking Questions
In short, since all things are grounded in physical reality, they can't be said to function entirely in a rarified, purely logical realm. I don't see any good reason to divide reality into a physical realm and a logical realm in the context you're doing it. Logic can simply be described as the inst...

Re: Are priests more likely to be child molester than ministers?
Nick, true, and I agree that the numbers are not as high, which supports my argument. Moreover, most of these women teachers at least tend to target males who are a tad older, at least post puberty. Their minds are still immature, but they have sexual thoughts, and know what the experience means, w...

Re: Are priests more likely to be child molester than ministers?
It seems like every month I hear another story about a female teacher having sex with one of their 13-15 year old male students. I don't think it's as wide spread as catholic priests having sex with young boys, but it still happens enough to ring some alarm bells.

Re: Socialized Psychopath Taking Questions
I think my last boss was a psychopath, although not an "inherent one". I believe his environment (having to take orders from corporate and being directly involved with all the employees on a round the clock daily basis) caused him to become a psychopath due to being forced into a situation...

Re: Socialized Psychopath Taking Questions
In some ways I think I'm attracted to psychopaths and vice versa, not sexually, and maybe not so much anymore. But looking back on the friends who I went months and years being around everyday, looking for something, anything to get into, I can definitely see a trend of psychopathy in them. I could ...

Re: Socialized Psychopath Taking Questions
Lenitudo, I think you are absolutely right that you're a psychopath. I've known a couple people who behave like you, I was best friends with one through out high school, and I think I know exactly what you're pointing to. You people are fascinating in a way, but I'm even more surprised by your abili...

Re: relationships and ultimate reality
Of course, a chair isn't inherently a chair, it merely temporarily possesses the properties of a chair, That's not really the whole story. The chair exists by virtue of an observer having formed for himself a definition of what a chair is, and when a thing is caused to arise that pretty much fits w...

Re: relationships and ultimate reality
Like the chair example in the other thread, the chair is inherently a chair because of, um, infinity. Without infinity, there would be no chair, ergo, the chair inherently exists. That's like saying the infinite = a thing; there's no real logical connection there, and it's a violation of A=A. It's ...

Re: relationships and ultimate reality
Mine is important enough to be found in the dictionary Nick, you oaf. Wow. Any philosopher worth his weight in salt would have no problem providing a simple definition on their own terms. I hope you don't consider yourself one. It's like you're trying to sustain indefinitely an altered state of min...

Re: relationships and ultimate reality
Confusing 'independent' with 'inherent' is odd to me, but then, I'm odd! So why don't you simply give us your definition of inherent? And please don't direct me to a litany of your posts to slog through, as I'm not going to be bothered with that when my request here is as straight forward as can be.

Re: relationships and ultimate reality
You don't think everything has a cause and gains it's meaning, and thus it's existence, within consciousness at the discretion of the observer? If so this is what you must logically disprove. Or do you mean something else by inherently real? If you do mean something else by inherently real; what is ...

The important thing to understand and remember is that everything has causes, and all things and boundaries are momentary appearances that are constantly shifting based how ...

Re: An Argument to Legalize Murder
Anders, I don't necessarily have a problem with a "huge population", so long as it's sustainable and respectful of the biosphere. Either way, legalizing murder is hardly the only way to reduce the population. In fact, those things I mentioned have proven to be extremely effective in limiti...

Re: An Argument to Legalize Murder
That's right Ryan. I don't even need to think this proposal of Elizabeth's all the way through to dismiss it out right. Also, the way she keeps bringing up methods of killing people as a solution to some of humanity's problems is very strange, if not disturbing. Efficiency, sustainability, technolog...

Re: How software performs functions through hardware...
The better question is: which kind of answer would you be willing to accept? Which parameters define the quality for you? And exactly there lies the lack in knowledge, not in the explanations you're receiving. Right. The problem is when we believe our parameters to be absolute and we want all pheno...
