Re: The shit has hit the fan:

While confidence and optimism are crucial elements of economical healthy functioning: there are limits. If people would just start to take out more loans which they cannot pay back on the long run, it would only hurt the economy further after a short period of return to former glory. In other words...

Re: The shit has hit the fan:

What if the world regains confidence and optimism, and the economies start functioning as before. That is also a possibility.
On the other hand if china backs away from the US dollar, it would totter on the brink of collapse, then all hell will break loose.

Nonduality and Duality

The mind is duality itself. Measurement and classification is duality. Other than that all is nonduality. Can philosophy lead to nonduality? How can it when philosophy is knowledge and classification itself? What can lead to nonduality? All action is dual, nonduality is just is, nothing can lead to ...

Re: God Does Not Exist - Question about that

Well, because this ET may be a God that created our universe, and our universe may have an objective purpose, as a result. Maybe mystical experiences have a greater purpose, and our not some blind result of natural selection. Maybe it's all part of the plan. You might very well be on to something. ...

Re: Good Books that have changed your life...

Is this possible? Can a book literally change the way your mind works, etc...? Have you experienced this? If so, I'd like you to name the book along with how it changed you, etc... Thanks! Thought as a system by David Bohm: Provided a very deep insight into the functioning of thought. In search of ...

Re: Is everyone Schizophrenic

How do you figure being half asleep and never focused is schizophrenic? It is more than that, if you observe carefully you will find yourself slipping in an imaginary world all the time. But maybe knowing that is the case, everytime the imagination temps you to think otherwise, it can be corrected ...

Is everyone Schizophrenic

We reside in an imaginary world of thoughts, ideas and images that keep going on. Half asleep, never focused on the now. Forever carrying out a dialogue a thought process, creating images of the past or projections of the future. Slipping in and out of the present, living in a world of hazy concepts...

Re: Is evolution surpising

Then I thought about how many times the garbage must have changed it's positioning, dying, being reborn, evolving, due to the elements, until finally the perfect piece of garbage was born, positioned, and of course naturally selected to reign supreme. So were its most perfect, selected, fit qualiti...

Re: Is evolution surpising

How many species or subtle variations of the water cycle are there then? It's only in the most gross, general sense caused to be. This is not different than the basic religious idea: the magic of some 'self sustaining system' has just replaced the notion of divine force or platonic essence. I fail ...

Re: Is evolution surpising

Perhaps it's better to say that the specific contribution of Darwin was the idea of natural selection. So the way the environment can affect this 'stability of patterns'. This is trivial, only those patterns will survive that fit with the environment. As an instance pure sodium is not evolutionaril...

Is evolution surpising

I was reading an article about Darwin http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Science/story?id=6815330&page=1 I do not understand what is all the fuss about evolution. From a purely empirical perspective, any system will develop stable patterns, that are reinforced by the environment. All life forms ar...

Re: The Garden of Eden

The past tense seems unnecessary here. Homo Sapiens is defined by their knowing, without it we're talking about something that cannot be called humanity. All what is animal or unconscious about us still lives in the garden and it's possible to still return to some degree, temporary, by exploring va...

However, one might suggest that the temptation of the snake with Adam and Eve could be thought of as the type of world knowledge that creates and fortifies the ego structure such as out of control sensuality, which results in emotional attachments. The snake has ...

The Garden of Eden

Perhaps the most fascinating myth, I believe it predates the Jewish religion. There are various interpretations, but for me there is only one: The garden is a state of no knowledge (non duality) where humanity lived one with the unknown (the universe or nature) like animals. In the absence of labeli...

Re: Thought is the problem

Most of us actually do very little thinking. This is not to say there is not mental activity; there is, and indeed for most of us it tends to be excessive. It prevents us from consciousness, clarity, and being present in the moment. But this mental activity is mostly free association, mostly uncons...

Thought is the problem

Thought is a mechanism that has monopolized the human organism for its perpetuation. Instead of living in the real physical world, where there are no divisions and there is no knowledge, humans live in a a world of labels and divisions. The dualistic existence does have its uses; the problem is the ...
