Re: The Lethargic working class
Hell, I have some minimum amount of knowledge about how difficult their jobs is and I still crack jokes because, you know, sometimes things are just funny.

Re: Why we Resist Science
Thinkers do not have to be experts on particular areas to arrive at reasonable conclusions. Thinkers look at the available evidence and reason from there. Sheeple passively say "Aw, leave it up to the experts to tell us what to believe." This is an issue which you can only argue through o...

Re: Why we Resist Science
How about this: global warming threads always turn into complete bullshit because either side can support their fanatical belief in either side of the argument with a never ending stream of links? If anyone here is an environmental scientist or something like that, I welcome a post, however, if we'r...

Re: The Lethargic working class
Do you work at all in any other season to supplement your lifestyle? I was in high school and chose to only work a summer job. Decent, hardworking supervisors needn't "yell" (browbeat whatever) to make their case. Do the job at hand and all is well. Decent, logical posters realize this is...

Re: The Lethargic working class
I used to work in a computer parts warehouse where I'd be running around all day stocking parts and packing orders. At first it was pretty bad where I'd get home and my feet would be killing me and I could barely function but it was easier to get used to than roofing and landscaping. I only lasted a...

Re: The Reasoning Show - Dr Susan Blackmore
All in the head is self-limiting. Without a balanced approach, considering we also have emotional and physical aspects, how can one end up but unbalanced? You are actually standing up for an exclusively intellectual path? I'm really the worst person to take up this case because I really hold no aff...

Re: The Lethargic working class
I remember a summer job I had a while ago where I spent all day doing things like tarring the factory roof, cutting back the plants around the area, cleaning up trash, painting, etc. I had a similar experience where I'd get home and just pass out after a day of work. There were some good things, how...

Re: The Reasoning Show - Dr Susan Blackmore
Did you realize the QRS brand of Enlightenment makes one so dull? Is all-in-the-head what you're going for? What's wrong with dull and all-in-the-head? Personally I don't consider the shows dull they have all touched on things which interested, inspired new thoughts which challenged previous ones, ...
Re: Faith
Faith, in my opinion, has to have that questionable aspect. True faith is belief which has been tempered by questions of it's validity otherwise there is nothing to distinguish it from normal belief.

Re: American National Anti-Gun Association
Hang on, that's what a deterrent is. The desire to commit a crime depends on causes. The causes are whatever enables the crime to exist. Yes, but historically it's been tough to prove that deterrents actually work. The death penalty can't truly be shown to reduce crime but we keep it around for clo...

Re: American National Anti-Gun Association
Personally I have a problem with more severe prison sentences because prisons create an artificially lower crime rate. It's easy to say that increased prison sentences lead to a decrease in crime because they keep criminals from committing crimes, the hypothesis is self-supporting. The question is w...

Re: Defining Science
I think the information you've provided is more appropriate to an essay on 21st century science than defining what science is about. It's a pretty valid example of science throughout human history. There has never really been a completely objective form of science in which research and conclusions ...

Re: American National Anti-Gun Association
The important point is that "rights" are made up by people, so they are not existing inherently and inalienably in reality. That is why I say that fighting emotionally to hold onto rights, as if they are God- or State-given, is delusional. I haven't been arguing from that point of view, j...

Restricting popular access to weapons can diminish the enjoyment of spiritual ignorance, in the same way that a bully or a bullshitter, who is challenged, doesn't enjoy being a bully quite so much. It's not so easy anymore. That's assuming willful ignorance is somehow supported by gun ownership, I ...

Do you agree with David Hodges' point, that guns are necessary in America to enable the government to be reasonable? First of all, the point was: Guns are necessary to keep the government honest. I think that point is fairly stupid not only because a bunch of people with handguns would never overth...

Kelly, all you do is set up your ridiculous statements to be true in and of themselves whether they have bearing on the topic or not. Anyone who believes that firearms are the only way to handle conflict would be deluded by default, however, how many people believe firearms are the only way to handl...

This is a philosophical argument, not a statistical one. I like to think that there is a difference, hence this forum. I don't see how the two are mutually exclusive. If you're trying to get at the truth of something sometimes you have to think practically otherwise you're just arguing with yoursel...

You stick out like a sore thumb in that regard. I have asked you to substantiate elements of your pro-gun argument, and have been watching for a reasonable, on-topic argument, too. I have seen one such reasonable, pro-gun argument in this whole thread--and it wasn't from you. And that argument did ...
