Re: Race, gender, sexual orientation, intelligence, what else?
Why not group races based on hair color, for example? Body hair patterns? etc. 'Race', as a taxon, is as silly as classifying animals based on their mode of locomotion -- swimmers, flyers, etc... lump bat and bird, dolphin and fish together -- why not? it's just an arbitrary taxonomic choice withou...

Re: Race, gender, sexual orientation, intelligence, what else?
Genetic analysis allows you to see admixed populations as well: the son of a pure European Caucasic father and a pure African mother, would be 50% mestizo for Caucasian/African ancestry.
And someone could be 40% Caucasic, 20% Asian, 40% Amerindian, and so on.

Re: Race, gender, sexual orientation, intelligence, what else?
Thanks everyone. It is hopeful to see a group of non-specialists (but ones who happen to be very smart people) can get to the main arguments that need to be considered in this issue, and getting there in less than a dozen posts. It kind of compensates for the way the highly trained specialists can g...

Race, gender, sexual orientation, intelligence, what else?
Dr Watson told The Sunday Times that he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours – whereas all the testing says not really". He said there was a natural desire that a...

Re: The World of Woman - Rich Zubaty & Sue Hindmarsh
From 'the moderators' perspective, masculinity seems entirely relative and contextual, but not necessarily arbitrary. For instance, a male gorilla compared to a female gorilla is masculine; whereas a male gorilla compared to a male human is feminine. I really appreciate you provided this example, I...

Re: The World of Woman - Rich Zubaty & Sue Hindmarsh
Who are the innovators, the independent thinkers and geniuses, the deep and rational thinkers in these tribes, women? Who are the tribal chiefs who make all the important decisions? Who are the clearest-thinking (from a rational perspective)? Women are the tribe chiefs and leaders, as well as the i...

Re: Sage Eugenics
Yeah, plus we´ll need to make provisions for measuring the genetics of "masculine-looking-face-ness" in females and "feminine-looking-when-young-face-itude" in males.
Is going to be so much fun...

Re: The World of Woman - Rich Zubaty & Sue Hindmarsh
Let´s try the experiment to have some concrete stuff in this thread, shall we? The ideas below come from a chapter on Femininity/masculinity by Jan E. Stets and Peter J. Burke, Department of Sociology, Washington State University. I think they could add some interesting angles to the discussion in ...

Re: Sage Eugenics
I think the results would show some very significant genetic contrasts between high-intelligence sages, and low-intelligence mediocre people, especially in regards to genes responsible for brain size, neurological complexity, gland/hormonal stability, and so on. There are a handful of factors that ...

offering yourself via genius forum to the scientists so you can be studied at the genetic level? I wanted to explore the relationship between genetic inheritance and potential for enlightenment, using myself and others as examples because I do consider myself conscious to a certain degree. The prob...

Re: Sexual selection for moral virtues
daybrown, I find your posts very rich on historical and sociological context for thinking the subject of human sexual selection and its consequences. Clearly, the subject has many more facets that the ones I can comfortably get my mind to deal with, so the feedback is very much appreciated. I might ...

Re: Sage Eugenics
I’m wondering whether or not the female egg has more weight to the overall stability and potential for genius in the individual. "Overall stability and potential for genius" doesn´t mean anything. Moreover, if you look at the mothers of genius, you will discover that they are quite mas...

I don't think that dyc would mind me mentioning this - she is a genetic research doctor, so she does have access to the most up-to-date and accurate information on genetics. If she types it and it is about the scientific side of genetics, IMO it is just as good as a link to a research article. Yes,...

Dan, I hadn´t think of this as having much to do with memes at all, or as being chicken/egg territory, so you made me thinking it all over. Let me try to understand what you´re getting at, There's no doubt certain moral memes have survived and flourished. Sexual selection in an environment of a fl...

Re: Sexual selection for moral virtues
So- when it comes to sexual selection, it depends on who's doing the choosing. Indeed. The main question here is if intelligence and morality are traits that human females use during sexual selection. It would be useful to have solid evidences one way or the other. I found this great study where pe...

Re: Sexual selection for moral virtues
There has been no genetic change since we were hunter-gatherers, but deep in the mind of modern man is a simple hunter-gatherer rule: strive to acquire power and use it to lure women who will bear heirs; strive to acquire wealth and use it to buy affairs with other men’s wives who will bear basta...

Sexual selection for moral virtues
Moral evolution theories have emphasized kinship, reciprocity, group selection, and equilibrium selection. Yet, moral virtues are also sexually attractive. Darwin suggested that sexual attractiveness may explain many aspects of human morality. Lately, this argument has been updated by integrating re...
