Re: Contradiction and the Absolute

What is the difference between existence and existence in the abstract? Abstract means a concept or an idea. If one is not allowed to conceive existence, then no one can recognize (much less challenge) if a thing exists. Abstract - 1. thought of apart from concrete realities, specific objects, or a...

Re: That which is causelessly here

Fundamentally, ALL 'things' and 'events' (including 'ourselves') are actually arbitrarily delineated, impermanent features of the manifested 'being' of 'That which is causelessly here'. This manifestation is commonly known as the universe, and is the only real manifestation there ever is. Hello and...

Re: Contradiction and the Absolute

My point was that to require proof or rationale for simultaneous existence and nonexistence as a possibility is not different than requiring proof for the possibility of some pure exclusivity of the binary state: to exist or not. In that case I thank you for bringing the thought-provoking binary an...

Re: How do we embrace ruin?

To me, philosophy is fun, but one day it will get old and I'll move to something else. More realistically, you will just get old and all meaning, wisdom and lightness just moves on elsewhere. A different perspective then: it's not you as consumer, it's about how you are being consumed and digested....

Re: Contradiction and the Absolute

I don’t understand how you can challenge the existence of the concept of existence. While challenging the existence of something, you have already conceived existence. I'm not challenging the existence of existence, but the existence of existence in the abstract. Existence is a relative term like "...

Re: Contradiction and the Absolute

If you want to say you don't know, then say you don't know, but to claim the simultaneous existence and nonexistence as a possibility requires some sort of proof or rationale above and beyond just merely stating that you don't know. Why is this requirement different from claiming there are only two...

Re: Contradiction and the Absolute

1) x exists 2) x does not exist 3) Neither 1 nor 2 are true. 4) Both 1 and 2 are true. 3 and 4 are both contradictory. Only 1 or 2 can be true. Either x exists, or it doesn't. It can't both exist and not exist at the same time. Neither can it not exist and not not exist at the same time. It's not t...

Re: How do we embrace ruin?

That might be correct; you seek simple enjoyment, then insight takes it away. Then you seek simply enjoyment elsewhere, until insight takes that away too. Finally insight has taken away all enjoyment, and enjoyment is found only in letting go. But letting go is itself a way to hang on to salvation....

By taking away the 'if' you keep attempting to make relative to that which you have no knowledge of.
I have no knowledge of what you're driving at, which makes me relatively confused, so I'm going to bow out of this one and observe from the sidelines.

Re: How do we embrace ruin?

The function of suffering is to loosen the grip on inadequate conceptions and encourage the ascension to a higher state of being. Without suffering people would not progress in any real sense; they would not feel any inclination to let go of insipid and shallow world-views and modes of being (feel ...

Relativity does not contradict nor ascertain anything,
If relativity cannot ascertain anything, then what can be ascertained relative to your statement and question?

I'm humbly indebted to your gracious overlooking of my nonsense and for the bestowal of brilliance upon the plebeians ;) Existent things must abide by relation, and non-existent things must abide by relation. Names are agreed upon pointers for the sake of meaning, for communication and as you know, no two minds communicate meaning in the exact same way. Our dialogue is a perfect example. I'm glad you brought that up. Objective - impartial, unbiased, unprejudiced, nonpartisan, disinterested, neutral, uni...

I've been putting off responding to this because I find it so utterly obvious that there is no point, however I have been drinking a bit and I am going to foolishly respond to you. Re: Contradiction and the Absolute

The issue here is not who, but what. What's the difference? We can't have who without what nor what without who. How can you know what what is if you don't know what who is? If I am I because you are you, and you are you because I am I, then I am not I and you are not you. So who is asking the ques...

Re: Contradiction and the Absolute

'relative' or relation i.e. causality. You are trying to understand existence via causality which is a rational thing to do. I think I was mainly challenging the existence of 'existence in an abstract sense'. It seems in order to exist, existence would need to be relative to some medium of existenc...

Re: Value-based love for what was

I am SELF. I am not a concept to me. Your brain can only harbor concepts (conceptualizations), so you are your concept of yourself. You are also other people's concept of you. As soon as you try to think about it some other way, you're reconceptualizing. There was a young man who said though it see...

Since the nature of existence is ultimately a mystery to the self
A self cannot look at itself ;) To me, that is why fundamental reality can never be known... we can't look at the center of ourselves. We can look at aspects of our self, but not the fundamental.

Hi Serendipper!!! :D This is a question I ran into on another forum, and the question was jumped over by most of the participants who were asked, and those who did answer were similar to yours. As you will note the question ask: "What is the difference between evolving and expanding consciousness?"...

Should it be without contradiction thus with absoluteness, what is the medium for your existence before your birth? Who is asking the question and to whom is it being asked? Very thought provoking conversation. Hi jufa! What is the difference between evolving and expanding consciousness? What is the wisdom of the emptiness? There is no way to escape the self because every thought pattern that arises is the self, a thought pattern that is only truly meaningful to the 'individual' in the moment of its arousal. I'm glad you said "if being mindless in meditation is being one with the universe" because for the one who seek...
