Re: Gospel of Thomas; Really?
Oh hello Glostik, Is it so? Do we have a real live Baptist here? Sorry to be fashionably late... You make a good point. That's why I believe only parts of Thomas are true. My main reasoning is why would David Quinn use the gospel of Thomas or any gospel for that matter if parts of it disagree with h...

Re: The Fundamental Unity of Being
Jehu, people meditate, many, many of them, and I don't see them getting very enlightened. Doesn't seem very dangerous to me. The doctrine of “no-self” might be better expressed as “no-inherent-self”, that is to say, the relative being has no intrinsic reality. The whole purpose of the meditative sta...

Re: The Fundamental Unity of Being
You are calling meditation introspection? What about contemplation? You say that you wish to experience your true nature, but you want to do so while still maintaining your status as the independent observer (i.e., an ego-personality), Oh, I don't know that I said that ...of course since I am not en...

Re: Kevin's Death Experience
Hello Thomas!
How's life?
Bird of Hermes here. I've been talking to Jehu for over a year now and he is trying to lift some illusion from my mind, but now he wants me to find a guru-meditation guide.
Would you like to explain what you have in mind about the synthesis of gnosticism and Judaism?

Well, my dear ass, you have simply reiterated your same old comments, and you have never heard what I've said. You can't, you won't, whatever.
But you needn't accuse others of nonbravery.

Re: Barack Obama, next president of the U.S.?
Talking Ass, Pussies. That's what I got to say about it. Sqeamy little complaining pink-toed pussies. There are just some things that get me going and that's one of them. In theology, I say: 'Be a man!' 'Gird up your loins!' The ones who need to gird up their loins are the ones who can't face the tr...

I am not sure what you are advising here. Surely many people are meditating with minimal instruction, but at any rate, I was not planning to go looking for an instructor.

Oh dear! You will never find a worse student than me. My mind is like a whole pack of beagles.
No wonder people run off to monasteries. How can you not allow your mind to be distracted by the relative when you have a job?
What are the dangers associated with meditation?

Re: Barack Obama, next president of the U.S.?
Talking Ass, They seem to find values there, and they don't say they are filled with 'terrible stuff'. So, there is a significant percentage of people---dumb people I suppose?---who find tremendous value in something you find no value in, or very little. O come now, you can do better than that. You ...

Re: Barack Obama, next president of the U.S.?
The fact is, all the scriptures of the west have a lot of terrible stuff in them. They are not consistent in their message. We can go over the Old Testament, the Koran, to a lesser degree the New Testament, and no doubt the Talmud and find really hideous stuff. No doubt it is true that the Koran lif...

Re: The Fundamental Unity of Being
To what end would that which is already perfect aspire? Being is what it is and cannot be otherwise, and so what need is there of a plan? It could aspire to create, to experience. Why even spirituality can become a means of enlarging one's ego, if one is not constantly vigilant. Yes, but I think in...

Re: The Fundamental Unity of Being
That which has a purpose serves another - as its instrument, but Being is that than which there is no other. But cannot Being serve itself? In other words, the imperfection here is not in the garden, but in the gardener. The nutriment of suffering is the selfish act, and so long as we act so there ...

Re: The Fundamental Unity of Being
How do you know Being has no purpose or plan? Well, you said "final purpose." I would probably agree with that. As for this: Further, though it appears, as you say, that evolution is driving the Universe toward ever more complex forms such as cognizant living beings, this is only an illusi...

which is now entering its second year. Wow! I thought we began last fall. When I say that the Universe is unfolding as it should, I do not mean that it is unfolding toward perfection, for it is in want of nothing, and so is perfect as it is. Well, I guess this bears some thought. There is surely a ...

Were you hoping to be finished with this discussion?
