FDR Radio

I've been watching some videos of a guy on youtube (Stefan Molyneux) Wondering if anyone here has seen him or has an opinion of his ideas.

Re: Christians and me:

It's like NePlus Ultra all over again. His logic may be bad, but his Christianity is even worse. "So is Christianity. Now we see as though through a glass, darkly. By their fruits you shall know them. Etc." I must have missed those bible verses that talked about calling people drooling idi...

Interesting quote

"To say "I believe in God" is equivalent, in some sense, to say "my thought is ultimately coherent, but predicated on an axiom (as my thought is also incomplete, so I must take something on faith)." To say "I don't believe in God" is therefore to say "no axiom...

Re: Wince TV

Project idea: Wince TV The same eye-watering sarcasm of America's Finest News Source, The Onion . But in the case of Wince TV, it's about sensationalised irrationality of a philosophical kind, instead of hyped-up but extremely banal news stores. Straightforwardly silly, like A Bit of Fry and Laurie...

Re: the Core Obstacle to Justice

"What do you consider most humane? - To spare someone shame" - Nietzsche That's a good quote. I think we have to look at it in two ways though. We can spare someone shame by lying to them (we often protect very elderly people this way), or we can spare someone shame by focusing on the way...

Re: Enlightenment / Despair

Hello again I've noticed the geniuses highly regarded in this forum (Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Jesus, Weininger) all seemed to suffer from deep despair, at least for a time. Now I don't regard myself as a genius, but I struggle with despair. I would describe it as a kind of existential despair, coupl...

Zach Galifianakis. He can be hit or miss, but has very different brand of humour i find quite brilliant.

Re: Enlightenment / Despair

Dragging a sad brain around with you is not helpful to either you or anyone else you meet. I don't sulk around. I try to be polite and courteous with everyone I interact with. I even experience elevated moods from time to time. It also helps to plan your life all the way to the end. Find a place to...

"They can't, obviously. There can only be one Infinite (i.e. one ALL) by definition. " found an interesting video about different forms of infinity in mathematics I thought you might find interesting and philosophically applicable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elvOZm0d4H0 "Infinite ...

Re: Concerning David Quinn's "Ultimate Reality"

Ok, so after reading a few threads, I think I understand the concept of Ultimate Reality. Basically put, it is the idea that everything is connected by an infinite causal chain, and therefore nothing exists independently of anything else. There is no beginning and no end, and of course no need for e...

"old cynical regular" was exactly what i was going for, thanks for noticing. my deal? I'm not really sure what my deal is. just trying to wrap my head around some of these concepts. I'm a self educated thinker, of what I'm sure most of you would consider low grade, and like most low grade ...

Seeker how am I supposed to take you seriously? You come in dropping the forums popular opinion one liners like a muppet with no regard to addressing any of my questions or being part of a conversation. You act like a troll and I will treat you like one.

Re: Concerning David Quinn's "Ultimate Reality"

...but to say that it is impossible that God can be an active, conscious entity just seems like an opinion, rather than an absolute. Cold, the discussion is really about what you think existence is . All that you know about existence is tied up to this universe and your awareness of it. So what you...

Re: Concerning David Quinn's "Ultimate Reality"

Uncaused cause God is the only true way God can exist. Just like infinity, our finite minds cannot comprehend it doesn't make it illogical. God is infinity, and cannot possibly have a cause.

Re: Concerning David Quinn's "Ultimate Reality"

David, maybe my definition of universe is different than yours. I've been under the impression that the universe is comprised of all physical matter and came into existence about 13.7 billion years ago, and as far as I know it only has about 10 billion years left to go. At least this is what modern ...

Terrible pun?? Cold cave is just the name of a band I like. Jesus, I hope I'm allowed to enjoy music here without getting slammed.
Anyone care to address my questions?
You'll have to forgive me, I'm clearly not the most intelligent guy here so plain English would be most helpful for me.

thanks

Concerning David Quinn's "Ultimate Reality"

Greetings all. I read David Quinn's essay on Women over a year ago, and was over-joyed to hear someone (DQ) explain so simply what had been muddled in my head for years. His wisdom acted as a sledge-hammer upon some deep foundational truths I had based my life upon, yet my joy quickly turned to desp...
