Re: Plato: On Truth and Falsehood ( Texts: Phaedrus)
I suspect you have, at best, a schoolboy's knowledge of Plato, else you wouldn't have asked such a silly question, nevertheless, I'll try to clarify things for you. The question in question comes from Plato's Phaedrus - Writing as deception, words as magic ( Parmenides, Theaetetus, the Sophist: what...

As you know, wanking can be a rich and pleasurable experience! Try thinking outside the box Danny Boy...I'm beginning to think that there are few, if any, real philosophers in here at all...Metaphysics? Its you who haven't a clue Danny. Plato: On Truth and Falsehood ( Texts: Phaedrus)
"How is it, Plato asks, that we can 'know' about truth and falsehood, when there is nothing in our experience which would lead us to be so certain about the difference , of right from wrong, of truth from a lie, and yet we make all kinds of judgements in these matters...?"

Trev, a little of both...but to me, being a non-believer, it's all so pointless. An intellectual exercise at best. Which doesn't mean I don't respect people who hold different beliefs - who enjoy that form of recreation or employment. I've come to appreciate the diversity of people and have develope...

It doesn't happen. Warp drive is as about as practical as time travel, in terms of real science...in my novel anyway. Mankind just doesn't evolve in that direction. This is a likely scenario, as space travel has not progressed since the moon landing...

Re: Is Wisdom Inspired By The Smell OF Carrion?
Good thinking Trev....Wisdom has its place. I suspect that Socrates was also a figment of Plato's imagination. In my other life I'm a scriptwriter - novelist - poet. have included part of an early synopsis of a novel I'm currently working on which you may or may not find interesting, it deals, in pa...

Re: Is Wisdom Inspired By The Smell OF Carrion?
Neil, I agree. I think Nietzsche's work should be assessed in relation to how he lived...like many philosophers, he had more than his share of timidity (lack of power) for which his 'philosophy' compensated: it is a psychological observation of the man himself. It is also obvious for anyone who has ...

You are what your name depicts AVERAGE...I would say an average IDIOT....So, go fuck yourself! <- I don't consider this insulting, it's the language your type instinctively responds to e.g. 'well, if you say so, it must be true...' Is Wisdom Inspired By The Smell OF Carrion?
Nietzsche once wrote that 'wisdom was inspired by the smell of carrion...' that it always came after, in old age, with much reflection. He saw wisdom as an impediment to the overthrow of the old order of society. In the Geneology of Morals he asks us to consider the following: 'When Socretes - who w...

Re: The Morality of Employment
Food for thought concerning morality and wisdom: * There have been many things written about homosexuality. For example, Homer’s Iliad talked about homosexuality and Plato devoted a whole speech to it. In fact Plato believed that homosexual love was better than heterosexual love - especially for p...

Trev's definition of morality and wisdom does not compute with the 'lives' of MANY philosophers...another interesting question to ask is how many 'moral' philosophers were/are GAY?

Re: The Morality of Employment
I don't think there are many - if any - philosophers who 'live' their philosophy e.g. Nietzsche. Not exactly Superman ay? ...what's so good about morality anyway? There are also immoral philosophers, who see morality as a fetter. Perhaps you should consider becoming a monk, and take a part -time job...

Trev, what do you mean by wisdom? What do you mean by morality? In philosophy, for example, we have Nietzsche and say, Aquinas. Difference wisdoms, different moralities...Then you have the morality/wisdom of Christian fundamentalist 'philosophers' vs atheists bla bla, there is also a lesbian baptist...
