Re: Are YOU Enlightened ?
This is a place where people throw out words and concepts and see how they fly. A testing ground for philosophical bombs.

Re: To what degree can we weed out our delusions on reality?
Thanks for your response, Diebert. I see a couple of things wrong with it, James, and it surprised me in so far that I couldn't make anything else from it than something not passing the smell test. You are creating what seems to be a false dichotomy "one is either deluded or not" and deriv...

Re: To what degree can we weed out our delusions on reality?
It's all very black & white uncomplicated and that simpl -- oh wait, it's not but "only a matter of time". And various "neural pathways" now are involved as well! And suddenly everything becomes complicated again and not simple at all. At least you could try to keep the bull...

Re: To what degree can we weed out our delusions on reality?
What are you all going on about? Jesus H.W. Christ. This is not that complicated. One is either deluded or not. Either one belives in inherent existence and buys into the ego or they don't. It's really that simple. Of course, there are residual neural pathways created by the ego delusion, but these ...

Glad that relationship ended. It was clearly bad.
My own crappy relationship (which was somewhat similar to yours) also ended, and now I am with someone far more compatible.
Here's to change.

Re: To what degree can we weed out our delusions on reality?
This is one of the remarkably silly things about this particular take on "Buddhist" philosophy. Those that hold to it have no reason whatever to say jack about it and yet they never shut the hell up. To some extent this is true. But I do think it is possible to hold to the "don't kno...

Re: I think you're pushing it
Just flush the guy. Within the last week, I have committed suicide, rediscovered myself, been the victim of major medical malpractice and false arrest, just about broke off a toenail, deadlifted 300 pounds, and beaten "God" (a schizophrenic guy in the nuthouse) in ping pong. I'm nuts, as y...

I make popcorn, dispel all delusions, attain enlightenment, and burn my bathroom down.
It be's like that sometimes, cause I can't control the rhymes.

Indeed. I was in the nuthouse all week and saw way too much TV... the shows were crazier than the patients.

Re: How to Build a Stronger Ego - Steve Pavlina
Consider the words of the Ass, for only a fool or a nutcase seeks the abyss before his time. It's not about "seeking" the abyss, it's about preparing for it. Other than the recent Tibetan ruckus, one doesn't generally see Buddhists or Daiosts killing themselves off in droves, which would ...

LKook at what he says here: but the one thing they usually have in common is that they’re borderline broke most of the time. This is a very half-assed approach to enlightenment. That ought to tell us about all we need to know about the worth of his thoughts on spirituality, I think. One can't make a...

Re: How to Build a Stronger Ego - Steve Pavlina
Just because we may be skeptical of "full egolessness," I don't really see how it means we should run out and accept strengthing and reinforcing the ego as a good idea. And Steve Pavlina is basically a marketing guru - not really the sort of guy I would go to for advice on these matters.

Re: Why causality is an illusion
Most of that is true (putting aside the thorny issue of 'intelligence' and what that might mean). But I think the question of causality remains relevant in the sense that it can be a valuable tool. Ulitmately, I do agree that the question ought not to even arise, as it implies the sort "fixed v...

A slab. Hmm... going to have to consult the Aussie slang book on that one...
Oh... well, that shouldn't be a problem. There's even a handy website for it. Too bad I'm about as broke as always. And it looks like their selection might not be the best... Corona?

Then again, I didn't post on Genius-L, but rather the EZboard forums only. So I'll choose to believe that's why. hehe
