Re: God... He who supposedly exists above impossibility.

Anyway, I think I've got you on the run Webb...so lets look at a few arguments, which I think will cover most of the points you've raised. Firstly, it is often suggested that god - inside or out - values free will, which allows human beings to misuse their freedom and so generate evil, injustice and...

Re: God... He who supposedly exists above impossibility.

Then you are left with this: who constructed the construct? Round and round we go...'believe' is the operative word here. You can 'believe' anything, but it doesn't prove a thing...'Consciousness embued with the powers of creation', now that has a ring of truth about it ( which should not be mistak...

Re: God... He who supposedly exists above impossibility.

Webb's argument has more holes in it than a spaghetti strainer! He certainly knows how to tangle himself up. Lets sort him out, by using our, to quote Dostoyevsky, 'earthly Euclidean mind i.e. our ordinary faculty of Reason. When I look at his tapestry of clever statements in the 'light' of this Re...

Re: God... He who supposedly exists above impossibility.

If there are any Christians here.. I would like to see your logical view on how God with his (Supposedly) Infinite power can possibly exist in this universe of logic. I cannot recall any compelling system of logic that can logically conclude the existence of God without first presuming it. Howsoeve...

Re: Logic+security=truth (warning: tedious read)

JohnChasWebb, My reply is that "no, not all reasoning is constructed with the basic building blocks of logic"! Because "logic" is applied to a given field of information or situation so logic alone is without any value without a field of information to apply it. I don't see how ...

I see what you mean, however... I haven't had pizza in a while, I think that I will order out for a pizza It's the same thing. It's logical for the person to eat out, because... 1. They are hungry. 2. Some external+internal factors lead them to think about a restaurant. 3. Memories. 4. DNA ...And m...

Re: Logic+security=truth (warning: tedious read)

"Logic" is a subset of "reason". Not all reason(ing) is logical. For instance. "I haven't had pizza in a while, I think that I will order out for a pizza". That statement is not logical but is reasonable. Quote... "As abilities grow, so does the ego." (End Quo...

Re: "Things don't exist", plus observations

It is possible that all reality is just a thought to ourself. Although improbable. Through observation we certify somethings existance whether it be imaginary or physical. I am reminded of the person awakening from sleep who dreamed that she was a butterfly... later she could not recall if she was ...

Re: The Universe: Intelligent?

One finds "surrender" of self/ego through being still. Eventually the mind-chatter subsides and one realizes the universal witness, consciousness itself, that which/who IS AWARE... transcending what we are aware of, including all concepts, which all orbit around the illusory concept, &quo...

Re: Isn't death more wonderful than life!

Isn't that why in Buddhism the ultimate release Parinirvana is only upon death. There is physical death and ego death. Physical death keeps you on the wheel of life and death... ego death contains the keys to a more permanent release. 'Death' is (can be) also a description of a never ending process...

Re: Why do I feel pain?

Pain pushes us forward. Whether we feel depressed, empty or confused, all bad feelings appear in order to make us think about their reason and purpose. In our world, we see only the outward shell of reality. We do not see what is hidden behind nature, society, a person or the cosmos, and we cannot ...

At best, I see John's post as material for rank beginners. At worse, as yet another recycling of populist material that has already been cliched to death.- After examining all of the various 'philosophies' it seems advisable to embrace one and to apply it. The notion of the 'uncarved block' is, in ...

I'm in the middle of trying to connect pieces to the puzzle of "things don't exist". So far it is my understanding that: Things exist in the sense that the mind cannot help but to cut up the world into practical chunks, such as the bed I'm sitting on, the chair I'm looking at, the mountai...

Re: The Universe: Intelligent?

The sage follows Tao, and is one with the Universe. S/he watches the ten thousand things, takes part in the ten thousand ages. Beneath the ten thousand things is Tao. My question: Is Tao a creative principle, underlying and uniting both humans and Nature (?) The Tao Te Ching proclaims that any atte...
